Sikorsky Helicopters experimented with an ejection system in the 1960's{?} that would use explosive bolts {or something similar} to sever the rotor blades of a single-rotor-head helicopter in sequence before the pilots ejected upward. AFAIK the system never went beyond the experimental stage.
Then you haven't seen the "Hokum". Look it up here on Youtube. Hell, pilots can even eject from that thing. The eject mechanism would shoot the rotorblades away before the pilot pops out.
