  • Ok guys I live in this place and I wish it could change a lot but it just wouldn't I lost many family members from suicide and alcohol abuse which is crazy to me

  • Lol wait.. they're holding a benefit at CUSTER lutheran?....

  • This is very tragic. The suicide rates on Indian Reservations, especially Rosebud, are literally among the highest in the world. These are young men and women too. Individuals who haven't yet fullfilled their potential. I am upset with out nation for ignoring and neglecting the "Real" Americans that live in an environment comparable to that in the Middle East. But I know that these wounds are deep, and can't simply be cured by throwing money at it. Their identities and culture have been damaged.

  • @akichita87

You are correct - and the magnitude of this crisis has - for the most part - been ignored by the non-native world and would be headlines if it involved whites.

The evil corporations and much of the ruling class continue to pray on those that they try to enslave.

Drugs, alcohol also play a big part - but when you have nothing and nothing to hope for - drugs and alcohol are a cheap lure.

  • @MunisingWhiteHorse

There's a supposed quote from Crazy Horse that he gave before he journeyed on... It starts something like, "Upon suffering beyond suffering, the Red Nation will rise again." After seeing this video, I wonder if they've reached this point. How much more suffering will they have to endure? My heart goes out to the Ikce Wicasa and Ikce Wiyan.

  • With respect; If you commit suicide you will still have to relive every minute of your life, experience it and live your life until a natural death. You made a promise to endure this life-with god. You volunteered to come here on earth to learn and create positive or negative, the two great powers governing everything here. Seek God/Jesus and ask for help God Bless You All

  • It's so sad to hear about teen suicides I'm a native American teen and it hurts to hear this..why are they so hurt I wish they could get help before its too late..

  • Instill value in your children, I have talked too many of my fam and friends out of suicide sometimes i think that is why the creator put me here. Listen to your children! Be involved. The ones that are most troubled have crumpled relationships with a parental figures. Don't let them try to grow up too fast and be in relationships too, thats another reason why they take their lives. Much Love from a Spirit Lake Dakota! Mitakuye Owasin!

  • Dang, God be in your hearts. We have summer youth programs for our kids and teens, this really helped cease the use of drugs and alcohol. A dear friend of mine unfortunately took her own life. So me and a few friends put together a relief program. Yall need help hit us up to_hopigirrl90@yahoo.com

  • and no jobs in those areas.......build factories there and give them the jobs,i`m sure the Government would give Tax breaks to Companies relocating there instead of Overseas.......aww crap we are talking about the poor here,.....no benefits and no jobs in this area either.....Michiana ........welcome to Wal-Mart or Can i take your order?......an AM general is waning.

  • What are the parents doing about it? Not involved in their lives? C'mon parents get involved and at the very least ...try!!

  • It is best to read the paragraphs below, starting from the bottom.

  • I am mostly writing to the elders, the parents, the leaders and any young people interested. These words, and words like these cannot solve these young peoples problems alone. YOU must take it on as your responsibility to talk to them. Not to sit them down, but to sit 'with them' and 'listen' to what they have to say. A sign of a good counselor and one who puts all ego and pride to the side. This is what these young people will remember and respect you for. Peace.

  • That’s for you and you are a part of the people and the people are one whole. thinking together as one. Don’t let that get lost, because you need direction and perspective. Everything is not as black and white as I have pointed out. Each of you will approach it the way you approach everything else. But the results come out the same. I bring these words to you and expect nothing in return, except for you to live a better life and to pass it onto the little ones. Give them a chance.

  • Being Indigenous is your life. It is not to be altered, to be toyed with, or made into mascots, etc. at others convenience. It is a serious thing what we do and can be very, very destructive if altered in any way. So being Indigenous is like Medicine. It saves you, because that's how it's been for you for thousands, millions of years and that is the road back. The Creator put us here for a reason. You must find those reasons and live them out to the end. Even if they don't agree with others.

  • So as it goes, we adults are the wisdom of our people, our next generations. But I warn that 'our wisdom is only as good as we are sober'. It is a vicious, broken circle that abuses one's self, each other that has all sorts of domino problems that can last for a lifetime. We must first recognize who we are (because we tend to forget in between generations & outside influences), then recognize our problems, and recognize the problems around us, and figure out a way to deal with them one at a time

  • We used to be a big world, but now we have been reduced to a little world, in a big world. A world that doesn't seem to be capable of caring about such little things. There has not been any outside help and I doubt there will be. At least not in the near future, or maybe even century. So the only one's who can help our peoples is 'we the people'. So why have the parents, etc. been so unable to do so? There are answers to that, that are many different answers. There is no one answer to this Q.

  • I mean to be insensitive but did anyone else find it ironic that the benefit for Native Americans at the end was at a place called "Custer". Anyways while drugs and alchohol are definitely a problem you still don't see these suicide rates in communities with similar poverty and drug rates. The Native Americans have been wronged worse than any other people by Americans, and that suffering has passed down. White men have to make it right for it to go away.

  • teenage boys killing themselves? thats frustration vs. helplessness, not drugs and booze! drugs and booze are common among every teenage community in most countries! if you are incapable of giving your youth ambition and satisfaction in life, don't blame it on the same old reasons you were told as a kid. you know your wrong. if nothings changed in the last 40 years, i don't blame these kids for wanting out.

  • @ayjuggalo1

    Yoo are so corrrect.

I am passing along your message to membhers of the Turtle Island Project.

I am the volunteer media guy for rev. Dr. Lynn Hubbard aka whitehorse.

He is now the ex. dr. of the Navajo Lutheran Mission in AZ - where he's running a "Mission in Reverse" & teaches Navajo youth to respect - and learn about - their own culture, heritage, the Navajo belief system, spiritual traditions etc.

Praying that you keep a positive heart and strong mind at St. Francis. Bless you.

  • People don't get it.Native or not drugs and alcohol are killing these kids!!Any other issue is just not dealing with the real issues drugs and alcohol.

  • @3909clancy

Thank you for your comments - as in civil rights we must keep our eye on the prize - and the same goes for the roots of evil and dispair - which far too often are as you stated.

  • @3909clancy Bingo! We have all been there and are the survivors. Dealing with the real issues head on is one thing. But what about the source? Why is it on or around the reservation? Why is it being passed on? There are outside sources taking advantage of a desperate situations in our economy. There is more to suicide then substance abuse. It is also, in many cases, considered a disease. One that has to be carefully talked to. You must approach it calmly & not forcefully. I can only offer words.

  • to my fellow young generation, don't think this is the end. we really are the future and our voice will be the only voice. it's up to us to change the world and if we don't no one will. the change starts with us! :)

  • @ocachisu

You are correct - and the Seventh generation and others will lead our society out of its current dispair and all the evil people and corporations who feed on young souls.

  • @MunisingWhiteHorse I believe that my brother!

  • I am a firemen at one of the Sundances. I send each and everyone one of you strength and whatever strength I have to give. Don't fight one another. Don't bully one another. Forgive one another. Love one another and be strong together. That is what we are told to do at the Sundance. That is our strength as a people. I ask that you young people lead the way. All of you. Support each other and be the one's that keep your communities strong for all time.

  • @ImOfNope

Thank you for your comments - that we hope ALL Of your hopeful comments are read by those who find this page - especially Native youth.

Thank you for taking the time to make all of your posts.

You are full of wisdom and compassion - traits we need more of these days.

My name is Greg Volunteer media ghuy for Turtle island Project - located here in Michigan.

I am passing all your comments on to Rev. Hubbard, founder of the TIP.

  • To you young people, there 'IS' hope for a future. Your just not there yet. Now is the time to learn and develop. When you feel the need one day to leave the nest, then you will make your own hope. You will make your own life. I did it and I couldn't wait to get out on my own. I found out so much about myself with a little help from my grown up friends and am very grateful for it. I ask you to live and stay. We all want you to stay and live your life. We care about you all.

  • I know why they are killing themselves. It is because they are depressed, with no hope for a future. It's happened to our family on numerous occasions. It is all tragic and preventable. I make a point to keep in contact with my nephews and nieces, to let them know that they are not alone. That we aunts and uncles are there if they need us. I feel extremely fortunate that I survived my own ordeals and want to share this knowledge with whoever is interested in knowing.

  • My mother is from the Rosebud Reservation. I just happened to catch this on the front page of Youtube. I have one question: 'when will the Lakota march against alcoholism on all of it's lands'? For a people who are closely tied together, why aren't the elders speaking to the younger generations? The elders wisdom is only as good as they are sober is the other side of the equation. Talk to them and let them know that you hear them. They don't want to hear about God. Just talk to them.

  • thank you for sharing this TRUTH<3 i have shared this vid on facebook...so that more can have their eyes opened to the reality of the life & death struggle of these beautiful young people--saddens my heart so to see young ones in such pain that they can see no other way out<3 prayers for all of them and their families

  • My baby sister Christina Fool Bull toke her own life on May 30, 2010. She left 2 little boys behind and we miss her dearly..."I still dont understand it."

  • @waterbirdsong2000 awww so very sorry for the loss of your

dear sister...prayers for you and your family <3 and for her little

    ones especially

  • @waterbirdsong2000 Read my quotes above. My prayers and sorrow are with you.

  • Poverty and Depression contribute to alcoholism and drug abuse...We must reach out and help ...

  • i think prevention and education will be an answer to this horrible epidemic. start prevention in preschool. educate kids about suicide and the negative effect it has on their family, friends, community and their native nation. suicide is the ultimate selfish act! school academics also need to be a focus. a great school that is properly educating and preparing students will likely produce kids that won’t have such a bleak out look on life.

  • Peace to all of those who lost loved ones to suicide,Cheyenne River is got a high

suicide rate like other places, seems to be everywhere,I lost my sister to this last

    year.

  • @randy6335 deeply sorry for the loss to your family ...prayers for strengh

    for all of you<3

  • Rest In Peace to the children who lost their lives, it is so horrible and sad they were hurting so much at such a young age, may the creator bless them and accept them into his hands now, and bless the families of the deceased. God Bless xoxo

  • I am a native american and noone is forcing me or my family to live on any reservation. God gave every human the power to change their life positively or negatively. Every human is fighting the battle of life, young people need their community to help them develop. with alot of respect for my brothers

  • Thank you for posting this Creator bless those that have passed and hold the youngones gently in the palm of his hand as they struggle with life..And I pray that help will come in the form they need at the rez and the suicides cease..may Creator also give strength to the family ,friends of those that are suffering right now..I will pray for all...

  • @WyteDove

Thank you for kind and inspiring comment - by your youtube page we see you are Lakota - you have designed beautiful page.

We hope teens read your comments.

  • @MunisingWhiteHorse .this cause..It was through him It came to my attention..and It is Through jay and yourselves that this is brought to the attention of and all those whom support this cause..I thank you all and Im deeply humbled by what you do and have much much respect for you..May Creator hold these children in the palm of his hands gently while they are facing their difficult times~

  • Hi Eveningstar,

I hate to see them too, they're hurtful and ignorant. I often wonder how people that make such comments would get through just one day on a reservation! I hope that

they would come away with an entirely different attitude, if they survived. I like to imagine a world in which people love each other and respect all life and Mother

Earth. The Indigenous Peoples knew how to live the way I believe The Creator

    intended. Take care! :)

  • Greg and MunisingWhiteHorse,

Thank you! :) also Eveningstar, thank you!

  • Eveningstar1982,

Well stated! We must remember, the First People, and their ancestors are a more

advanced civilization. They survived by understanding and respecting their teachers, The Animal Nations. They respected Mother Earth, and they prophesied the horrific damage that has been done, no one heard them. It is also

important to remember that many are trying to help. It is up to us to see that our

brothers and sisters are properly care for. Make the US gov., act, letter to those

    Part 1......

  • @Darkwolfhowlslak Thank you :) And you're welcome. I can't stand to see the comments that comes in on this subject like: Why don't they just leave, or get a job?

Or they belong there, they're indians.

I won't put up with those comments. Enough is enough and the native people deserve some respect and deserve to be heard. If people would listen to the natives, we would be able to save our earth. Right now, we're destroying our own earth because of greed.

  • Native didn't choose to live on reservations! They were forced to live there, because there were no understanding from the europeans who invaded america. And I agree with what Red Crow once said. He believed natives were put in concentration camps, and Hitler took the idea when it was the jews turn. I really think Americans should read the history all over again. It's sad to see so many of you being so unaware of what's going on in your own country.

  • @eveningstar1982

You are correct - thank you for setting people straight

  • @eveningstar1982 The US govt is quick to point the Moral Finger at other countries for their abuse of Human Rights, but never to draw attention to it's own. It can only blind it's people with prejucide & lies for so long. In the meantime the rest of the world is watching and you have support and many friends. Peace...

  • @SPLOD41 Exactly, and there are still violations of rights towards the native american people.

  • Why don't they just leave?? Remember who put them there on the first place. They have lived there their entire live, and don't know any better. Why don't americans do something to make the reservations a more human place to live, if you really want to keep the native people there. Why are there still humans living in concentration camps? Do something about it America! Help the native people instead of being blind and selfish. It would suit you to open your eyes and hearts.

  • @eveningstar1982

    Thank you for your wisdom.

Some people can be blind or racist or both.

  • @eveningstar1982 Dude, I'm from South Dakota, I'm around Native Americans ALLL the time. They are the most rude, selfish, dirtiest people in South Dakota. And even worse, they all want to be black people and they are all drunks. I really feel no pity for them.

  • @Severe777 Yeah, south dakota is the worst place, and you are one of the persons who makes it bad for them by judging them instead of understanding them. How would you feel if you couldn't be who you are, if your identity was taken away, and if you were forced to live in a place that you didn't like??? Just think twice before judging them. They don't deserve it. They deserve help and understanding. Plus - it's their land to begin with.

  • @eveningstar1982 ROFL OMFG, dude. I understand them more then you do. Trust me. I fucking live with them! And native americans ARE Americans you fucking moron! rofl, you have no idea what you are talking about. Come to South Dakota and live amongst them. Just for a couple months. You'll see what I mean. You're not from where I'm from so quit fucking acting like you know South Dakota. God I hate people like you, you think you know us and my state but you have no idea... go see for yourself.

  • @Severe777 and yes, I also happen to know that there's still a lot of racism towards native americans in south dakota. So go beat it. I know what I'm talking about, and you obviously don't. And you didn't answer my questions either. How would you feel like if somebody came and stole your country, killed your people, put you away on bad land, robbed your identidy and told you to live a specific way. Huh?? How you would feel?? Now answer me that. And then ask yourself why they drink??

  • @eveningstar1982 ROFL everyone in america is racists! blacks, whites, mexicans, native americans, EVERYONE. It's like an American thing to be racists. Please, please, I beg of you, quit acting like you know my country dude. Because you don't. And if you said this shit infront of my face I would fucking deck you so hard and then stomp your face in on the pavement. :) You never been here and until you do. You will know. God people like you! UGH! Just want to hurt you! :)

  • @Severe777 Yeah, you're so tough. Like I said in the previous post. . . I know you're country. I've travelled a lot in the states and I've seen a lot, and I've been to 21 states. I have family in the states and I have friends in the states. So quit saying I don't know your country. I know your country better than you think. By the way, the way you talk here, shows how low you are.

  • @eveningstar1982 The hard working side. I know Native American people a lot better then you. And I'll let you know this. They don't like Europeans lol... and they really don't like the white man. Trust me. I've been around them for 13 years. I would know.

  • @Severe777 Newsflash little one :) They do like europeans, if you understand their ways :) I will make one of my friends write you when he comes out of hospital. He will make you shut up :) He's ojibway and very wise.

Yes they drink, and yes they spend their money on booze, but where's the help? There's no help to get, they don't see any other way out. They are depressed and they need help.

  • Comment removed

  • @Severe777 You're such a dick. I don't threathen you with violence you idiot. I won't go as low as you. He will just write you and make you realise a few things about the native american people. He's an elder an very respected among his people.

  • Comment removed

  • @Severe777 Why should I? You are obviously one of the uneducated americans who needs a bit more understanding about the native people.

  • Comment removed

  • @Severe777 Thank you for your invitation, but I don't want to spend my holidays on persons like you. You are not worth it. *grin*

  • @Severe777 You don't know the ojibway tribe? Lol. . . and you say you know the native american people? What tribe is your own family from? Do you even know that?

  • Comment removed

  • @Severe777 Tsk, you're stupid. Go back to school and educate yourself a little. It would suit you. The ojibway tribe happens to be the third largest tribe after Navajo and Cherokee. . . :) And if you are so unsatisfied why don't YOU just move??

  • @eveningstar1982 Ojibway is the third largest tribe? And they're from South Dakota? Your information is wayyyy out there. Where do you hear this shit? Denmark? Do yourself a favor and stop acting like you know my state because I can sit here and look at the things you write and know you obviously don't. :) I'm stupid? haha... I know and seen a lot more then you have little European. Haha, you're making me want to beat the shit out of every foreigner I see here now. Please, stop.

  • @Severe777 No you dumbass. . . you know it's not only your state there's native people in. . . there happens to be native people all over the states. *rolls eyes* Maybe you should learn a bit about the rest of your country, instead of just your state. It would suit you.

  • Comment removed

  • @Severe777 My last words to you: You call yourself a native american? I'm sorry, but you are a disgrace to your people talking like shit about them, and I honestly hope you will get some help one day, because you need to see a pshycologist or something. Have a nice life.

  • Comment removed

  • @Severe777 Yeah yeah, you have so big words. You are aware of that I can report you to the police for this threat, right?? I hope you end up in jail, stupid.

  • @eveningstar1982 yea, and I'll report you for saying you'll get your friend Ojibway to MAKE me shut up. You obviously forgot about that didn't you? You threatened me first. Remember that. So, go right ahead.

  • @Severe777 Read my other posts again, and you'll realise that I didn't threathen you. I'm not as low as you are.

  • @eveningstar1982 lol... excuse me. But saying you'll get your friend to "MAKE" me shut up is a threat.

  • @Severe777 No, it means he will make you stop talking bad about the native american people. He will educate you a little and he doesn't use violence! And just to inform you, I'm not a male, I'm a female.

  • @eveningstar1982 Dumbass.

  • @Severe777 Yeah, likewise :)

  • @eveningstar1982 Yep, back at ya :)

  • @Severe777 likewise :)

  • @eveningstar1982 Likewise :)

  • Comment removed

  • @Severe777 This is a obvious proof that you don't read what I write. I told you that I didn't threathen you with violence. My friend would never go that low. All he will do is making a conversation with you through e-mail. I'm not a violent person, nor is he, but persons like you annoy me.

  • @eveningstar1982 lol going to cry to the police... grow some balls.

  • @Severe777 Wouldn't you be rude if somebody treated you badly? Don't be such a saint. Americans are not better at all. There are also drunk people among them, rude and selfish people, and not to mention dirty people. American are no better than native americans. Plus, you steal what belongs to others.

  • @eveningstar1982 We treat THEM badly? ROFL. Is that what you think? You obviously never been to South Dakota before and never even met a Native American from here. That's like me saying all Russian people are dicks, but how do I know? I never been there before. Come to South Dakota and find out for yourself. God you are so fucking ignorant... lol. I want to hurt people like you :)

  • @Severe777 You are the morron and you are the who are ignorant. And the stuff you write here now are just typical for narrowminded americans such as yourself. I happen to be friends with a couple of native american people who lives in south dakota and they've told me how they feel about living there. They live on the pine ridge reservation which is one of the worst reservations.

The comments you just made shows how little you are, and how little understanding you have towards other people.

  • @eveningstar1982 wow, you are really offending :) that's like me telling you shi9t about your country when i know nothing about your country, what native american friends do you have? I garauntee you NOT ONE native american from South Dakota EVER been to Denmark. Infact, I will bet you money on that. Take a picture with your Native American friends and let me see for myself. Don't call me ignorant when you think you know my homeland you piece of shit! FUCK YOU

  • @Severe777 Oh, so now I'm the offending one? And you aren't? You are an ashole and you apparently don't read what I just wrote. You just babble on without answering my questions. I know you're homeland quite well mr. I've been to 21 states there and I have family and friends in the states. So you chose the wrong person to argue with. I think you're a person who likes to hear your own voice.

  • @eveningstar1982 Ok mr know it all :P How long have you been here in South Dakota, a couple of days? Well I lived here for 13 years :) I been to every reservation here besides one. I been to Rosebud, Pineridge, and so forth. I know the Native American people here and the white people here VERY WELL. The white people here are very hard workers and they actually work! The Native Americans are extremely lazy and they live off the government! They have a choice to get jobs and make decent living.

  • @Severe777 I've been a week to south dakota and I saw some of the things you mentioned. But instead of judging them, I try to understand. Did you know that it's hard for them to find a job outside the reservation? They are getting paid to stay in the reservation, and if they want to find a job outside the reservation they will loose their income. So no, they're not lazy - it's the government who tricks them to stay IN the reservation.

  • @eveningstar1982 ROFL more native americans live outside the reservation then inside. And just a week? Come on dude, try years. Then you'll feel how me and everyone else here feels. You know nothing of my state.

  • @Severe777 I know a lot about your state. Eventhough I've only been there a week, I actually do study about these cases. I do a lot of research because I'm planning on moving to the states - living among the native people once my education is finished.

  • @eveningstar1982 Are you kidding me? They aren't lazy? Dude, yes they are. The real old ones ARENT lazy. The younger ones and the parents, they are VERY lazy. Come on, you don't know what you are talking about. You don't know Native American people.

  • @Severe777 You know, everyone are mirrors. If you are annoyed about something in a different person, you should take a look in yourself and find out why you are annoyed. We all reflect something in one another.

Instead of keep saying how lazy and selfish they are, why don't you help them?? They don't need this kind of shit anymore, they need people who actually care and people who wants to help.

  • Comment removed

  • @Severe777 I'm defending them because I care, and because I want to help. They deserve better than what they have. If they had land where they actually could grow something on, I think things would change. It's not the only thing which would help of course, but it could be a beginning.

  • @Severe777 and no, they didn't do this shit to themselves. . . it goes waaaaaay back. Try read your own country's history again :) I think you forgot about what actually happened......

  • Comment removed

  • @Severe777 OMG you are a morron. Why do they need to depend on white people?? Duuh, did you already forget who put them on the reservations in the first place??? And if you're part native american, how can you speak so low about your own family? You should be ashamed!

  • Comment removed

  • @Severe777 *shrugs head* I don't threaten you with violence you idiot. That's not what I mean with making you shut up. He will just write you, and make you realise a few things about the native american people. They are actually a peaceful people once you get to know them.

  • Comment removed

  • @Severe777 Oh, so now it's your people? Funny, how you dish them and then call them your people. And what was the reason for beating up that person? To be cool? You think you are cool talking like this? You think you are cool being a racist like this? If you beat up persons like that, then you belong in jail.

  • Comment removed

  • Comment removed

  • @Severe777 no, violence is not the solution. You just can't deal with someone telling you the truth, so grow up, instead of beating people up.

  • Comment removed

  • @Severe777 Just read your history again, and try and see it from their side.

  • indian pride.

  • The First People have not asked anyone for anything that they were not promised

when their land was taken, and they were herded onto reservations like sheep. We are all one people, yet we have learned nothing about humanity, sharing, giving without being asked, loving our fellow brother and sisters who are in desperate peril. When the young people living in abject poverty on reservations read comments like yours, they lose all hope, some feel they do not deserve to live. Read Wound Knee.

  • @Darkwolfhowlslak

Once again you speak the truth - some people don't weant to hear the truth but keep telling it - Greg P. for Rev. Hubbard

  • This is not about race, it does absolutely no good to expend so much energy in hating people who have been dead for

decades. This is about self-respect, caring for your brothers and sisters, your parent's and grandparents. Open a history book and read about your ancestors, they respected each other, and took pride in themselves and their accomplishments. They respected Mother Earth, and gave

back, what they took. They respected wildlife. They had a

purpose. They were beautiful strong people.

  • @Darkwolfhowlslak

Very wise words - I hope depressed youth reading your message keep trying to change the their lives in a positive way and not give up - even if it seems no one cares.

People do care - and all teens have a bright future if they can just hang on and not give up.

Reach for the strength of all your relatives.

They overcame a lot and had little help except for their own ingenuity.

  • start two posts down or it will not make sense

  • How many of you that live on the Rosebud Reservation have

completed high school? Do you have dreams, hopes, what

is it you want from life? Don't give in, and never give up, you

    are Sioux!

  • What prevention measures? They can still get alcohol outside a reservation and continue on...generation after generation. It all starts at home...where are the parents?

  • i agree MrIndian... Show the whites we can be equal.. the only way is to stop doing the stupid things they think we will keep doing... beat that system.

  • Did that lady say in the pass two years their have been more than 400 attepted suicide?? thats beyond sad. I hear this is somthing thats been going on for years, Yet I'll just heard about it last year, Where's the government when you need them?

  • @Dealz1988

Over 500 attempted suicides and literally dozens of suicides in the past few years.

The White Buffalo Calf Womens Center have only a few counselors & tried to get more counselors from the government - none were sent.

The Turtle Island Project (TIP) tried & tried to get white media interested. I'm the TIP volunteer media guy.

    Then KOTA-TV did this story.

Argus Leader newspaper Sioux Falls later did a series.

I'm a news reporter, if this involved white teens it would be national news.

  • This is where the government wants to keep them. As long as the children have no hope, this type of genocide will continue. Rosebud is a POW camp just like every other reservation. As long as you see it as suicide, the U.S government doesn't have to hold themselves accountable for this despicable situation and the prisoners will just kill themselves off.

    Where are the parents?

Some are dead, some are in the same situation as the children. Don't give up, remember your culture, this is your land

  • @hotstuffjetcars

ok, I am not trying to sound crass and unfeeling but our government in NOT forcing the native americans to live on reservations, we are not making them accept any kind of welfare or "compensation" don't get me wrong what happened way back when is awful, but it is just that it is WAY back when, just as with slavery, womens rights, and so forth....why is it that the american people should have to continue to pay for the mistakes of our ancestors....

  • @hotstuffjetcars if people want to get off the rez then they need to study hard and go to college and make something of themselves...don't blame the guy down the road who is making 80,000 a year because he had it so "easy"....because most people for South Dakota don't have it easy....they join the service or take out loans or get grants to pay for a college education or they work at big d because they don' have a college education..

  • @branumtc

Why don't they just leave? Why don't you just leave and go back to Europe, Africa, India, or where ever your ancestors came from!

  • @treo700v

I would delete this comment - but it proves what we have been saying

The world has many racists and haters - so sad their hearts are filled with hate.

    But we forgive them.

  • @hotstuffjetcars

.but it is NOT my fault that you or your people choose to live on the rez and continue to cry whoa is me!

  • Shit, im native american and i dont even live on the Rez and i've tred commiting suicide several times...i thought it was just me, maybe it's in the genetics?

  • @sexcrzyfuck

I checked out your profile - sorry to hear you have severe depression.

I don't think it's genetic I think its the situation - and to some it seems hopeless.

Loved your kisses to world - now its time for you to throw yourself some kisses.

I am MI news reporter who manages this youtube site (munisingwhitehorse) for Rev. Dr. Lynn Hubbard - one of Turtle Island Project founders.

He's now ex. dir. of the Navajo Lutheran Mission in Rock Point, AZ

  • @YOOPERNEWSMAN Please keep Jesus out of this. The church has to do a lot with what's going on with Natives. Please keep this dead man Jesus out. They don't need him any more.

  • Are you doing Ok now? and have you been back to the Rez a couple of times, Are things getting any better for everyone?

  • @Dealz1988

Things have not gotten better - poverty, no jobs, gangs, and other social problems have created a bleak life on this Rosebud.

But the resilient and noble residents of Rosebud continue their struggle largely unnoticed by outside world.

The White Buffalo Calf Womens Society (WBCWS) is doing great job on many social fronts but badly need donations.

WBCWS Director Tillie Black Bear has worked tirelessly to help but needs outside support.

Anyone who can afford it should donate to WBCWS.

  • @sexcrzyfuck NO, suicide is not genetics, go back to being spiritually as your forefathers were. Develop a skill and work, do not touch alcohol because alcohol is a whites devil, it causes depression. I am a foreign trained professional and when I started to booze I began to feel worthless and also because the whites at job interviews told me I was nothing. I taught of suicide. I stopped boozing and now I have a healthy mind and body. When a white tells me I am nothing it makes me stronger.

  • This is very sad. We need to help these kids be proud of who they are. We need to help them see that they are the future and they need to be strong like their grandfathers were.

  • we lost the battles but not the war!, its time for all of us to be listen to! NATIVE AMERICAN PRIDE!!! go forth my brother and sisters and fight for the ture americans!!!!

  • @lilEMOlil The best way to fight the whites is to quit boozing, be proud of who you are, get a good education (if you can) and develop good skills. We in Indian kicked the whites out and never let them destroy out soul. You can do it the world loves Natives of Turtle Island.

  • damm that sum sad shit my nativee

  • i like dat gettin sprung on bytches one...dats tru lol i live on da r.s.t. n i liked that one....NAIVE PRIDE NATION WIDE TILL WE DIE

  • im white part native

i say we need to stop

    killing each other

  • yall are all dumb. it qots nothinq to do with tha qoverment. we kan leave our rez weneva we want.

why there iz such a hiqh % of teen boy deathz iz because some qet sprung over there gurlz and drink and yuh kno. bhut they all have there own stories. there not all tha same. coming from tha rez i should kno.

  • actually you couldn't be more wrong, the suicide rates are so alarming, it is not just so many young individuals having normal teen troubles...as native americans on most reservations, it is an accumulation of trauma, historical trauma, hopelssness, and alcoholism and other abuses and for most, it is not so easy to just pick up and leave anytime they please for several reasons. Journalists as well as staticians do vigorous research to find these answers.

  • Comment removed

  • manderson is one of the high risk

  • did anyone go to this concert?

  • Please excuse my language...

  • I believe the suicide rate is high because these kids don't want to live this way. To live under the tail feather of the United States is shit. In any practical measure, a reservation is a very, very large prison. These are instincts that are hard wired into these kids. Now everything they're being taught is to calm down, don;t speak out, don't stake a claim... just shut up and stay on the reservation, but you still have to do what the US government says? This really pisses me off! Revolution!

  • I concur..completely... any other minority when they fought for their civil rights they recieved it and citizens stood up and fought with them...but when Natives tried it, they were portrayed as troublemakers and told to go know their place and stay in it. I'm native, and it hurts, Native americans are the most horribly treated minority in this nation.

  • If its sooooo sad where your at, think it over, there is always places to go. Just leave ( I did). Its always fun to meet other people other reservations and places to go. Try it out before ending your life.....

  • Before the worries of this world take you to your bitter end. Before you allow the enemie (satan) to whisper his negative lies in your ear. Before you think that you are unworthy, helpless, angry, disturbed, and just cant take it anymore...think again!

God has everything you need to solve your situation. Just call on the mighty name of Jesus! Jeremiah 29:11 "For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope".

  • I encourage you to watch some of our first videos like Rev. Hubbard warning Christians & their preachers that whites had better start respecting earth and each other just like American Indian traditions - or face end of cilivization.

  • Well the Christians really should start to learn the ways of the Natives. They are protecting, not using resources of our planet. As far as I know, they never ever killed a buffalo without praying for it´s soul. And what do we do? We slaughter animals without hesitation and thinking about it. It´s good to hear after all these bad stories, that some people are at least trying to help them. Bless you for that. If I wouldn`t live that far away I would too.

  • Hold on a minute... this church Custer Luthern Church.. is that for General Custer? If you give me a yes on that, I am probably going to jump out of my socks, but not for joy... How dare they....

That is like poking you in a fresh wound....

Since yesterday I am in a complete shock over the character of the US.. Democraty my behind.. excuse the language.. B.S. that is. Are they only one bunch of liars?? Free speach for all, but not for Natives? How stupid is that.

  • Custer is name of town & County - and Lutheran church is trying to renew friendships between whites & Natives.

This despite a racist local newspaper editor.

Town is likely named for General Custer.

As I explained in above post - our projects never try to convert anyone - and promote the wisdom of Native American spirituality.

Never judge a book by its cover like the name: Custer Lutheran Church.

  • I'm sorry but the thought of a benefit at "Custer Luthern Church" seems a bit ironic. I wouldn't be caught dead in the place because of it's name! Was the choice of venue just another slap in the face? "Let's have a benifit for the poor misguided Indians" and while we're at it let's hold it in a place named after someone who murdered so many of their ancestors along with a religion that was behind it all. Yuck

  • The purpose of the concert two years ago was to help unite a community of whites and Native Americans for a common cause - to raise money for the White Buffalo Calf Woman's center - that is battling many social issues on the Rosebud reservation.

The White Buffalo Calf Woman's Society still needs everyone's support.

Yes Custer has a long history of racism as has been well documented including the murder trial that sparked the Pine Ridge occupation.

  • message continued:

Some people are trying to change Custer, SD.

But even the editor of the local newspaper is so racist it would not run a short blurb promoting the concert.

But the concert itself was wonderful and helped the White Buffalo Calf Woman's Society (WBCWS).

Please check out the great work Tillie Black Bear and others are doing at the WBCWS.

This comment isby Greg - Rev. Hubbard's volunteer media advisor.

He recently became ex. dir of the Navajo Lutheran Mission in Rock Point, AZ.

  • Thankyou for your most intelligent reply and I'm so happy your cause was a success but it's still causing my skin to crawl to hear of any "Christian" associations with Native America. You don't need to convert us! We're way above you. Christianity is based on fear and guilt which can lead to discouragement and yes, suicide. If it wasn't for Christianity we wouldn't have been robbed of our dignity and considered less than human, put on reservations and had alcohol pushed at us.

  • oh, whiteStar, christianity is not only based on fear.. it is based on hatered. I was raised catholic myself and now I would be called a witch. In the middle ages in Europe, especially in my country women where mutulated, even worse burnt alive on a big pile of wood. the catholic church should do the famous mea culpa mea culpa mea culpa. That is latin for due to my fault due to my fault due to my fault. that is probably the reason why your people got slaughtered too. Not only for the land etc.

  • Thanks for your answer.

This is Greg again - Rev. Hubbard's news reporter - and volunteer media guy.

I want to make it clear - all of our projects do NOT try to convert Native Americans to Chrstianity.

In fact just the opposite - we tell Christians they ought to learn from Native American ways and beliefs.

Another project - involves 12 religions - doing huge environment projects & teach respect for each other's religions but NEVER NEVER EVER try to convert people.

  • NO offence, I never thought of the church not trying to help, but the name Custer.. that is way not good. If I´d be Native, I would start to think over, before I would even come for a visit. That is only my feeling about it. Gen. Custer was one mean bloke that only thought of his carrier. He did not care a bit about others +he got a whole county named after him? It breaks my heart. That would be the same as putting an A. Hitler.RD into Jerusalem. Or if we in Germany would have a Goering Street

  • I totally understand - the name Custer means Genocide to me.

I agree with your examples of naming things after awful people.

  • @Morgaine1970 totally agree i thought it was strange i mean Custer come on

  • The Native's are a strong Race. Just look at all they have been thru. Each and every Native American or American Indain's is here because their ansctors surived one of the biggest Gencides this country has ever seen.

There's a hidden stength in all of them that is egging to come out and wants they find it, we'd better watch out, Because I have a feeling it won't be long before the Native's come back bigger and better. Peace and Love to the Native Americans.

    From your Buffalo Brother.
