  • Important debate

  • Yea. Exodus... from reality, at best.

  • I went to college with Mark Shields. When I found out he was gay, I couldn't believe it. It was like when I found out Liberace was gay, who saw that coming? (no pun intended).

  • live beyond feeling? What is he? a mindless brainwashed robot? I'm sorry but that doesn't sound like a happy fulfilling life if you have to deny your desire or love toward another person. Feeling is probably the most honest thing about human, and if he is alternating his feeling or attempting to change, or as he said "love beyond" it, then he isn't honest, and that isn't who he is. I hope he would be like many ex-gay leaders and realize their hypocrites and who they are.

  • only in a religious society will your get dumbfucks telling you to stop having feelings. i'm not gay (although i sometime want to fuck anderson cooper) but if someone told me to have sex with another man i couldn't do it. so when you make a gay man fall in love with woman its not that easy. its just disgusting christians want to socially engineer gay folks to think like them. atleast the situation of homosexuals are moving forward, muslim world is HELL!!

  • did someone say Cooper likes it in the P**per?

  • I slept with anderson a long time ago, gay!

  • Women can have Ted Haggard!

  • I want to have straight sex with anderson cooper and im gay.

  • I think the real issue with Mr. Chambers has nothing to do with homosexuality. It has to do with being genuine and authentic. The greatest gift we all have is the freedom to live our lives in each moment as ourselves. Chambers is no longer Chambers. He's now "born again Christian". Period. There is nothing much more to know about him. His opinions and worldview will always reflect that identity. It's as if he has thrown the gift given to him back at the one who gave it to him. Very sad.

  • Alan Chambers makes me sick

  • Exgay therapy is so stupid and pointless because nothing is ever going to change, accept who you are and be happy with yourself. That is the right thing in my opinion and it's how i'm living my life. :)

  • @rockingreject

exactly.. =). Noone chooses their sexual orientation, they are born with it.

These "exgay successes" are merely projected compulsions based in deep psychology we cannot yet understand. And extremely rare, it probably will never happen within the next decade.

  • I think the quote was "trust in your feelings luke"

So it's, feelings be damned, or else you get damned to hell.

  • It's crazy that all three of them are gay and yet they all don't agree that there's nothing wrong with it...

  • He's def gay. They mention his name in the Surprise You're Gay song.

  • I think Cooper is gay.

  • I think anderson is struggling to hold back on that guy. Oh i love you Anderson Cooper. I think he should use some of his clout to campaign for gay rights cause i dont think anyone can say no to the silver fox. i know i couldn't.

  • that guy is gay

  • lmao, ex-gay. It's like going back into the closet.

  • haha ex-gay. More like good actor!

  • Anderson cooper is so cute! Yeah for the gays! ^_^

  • I think the ''ex gay'' guy kind of has a point. I am a gay man, and a gay rights activist and all the guy was saying was he was unhappy and he made a choice not to be. Its a shame, sure, but he wasnt saying that there was anything wrong with being gay, it just wasnt something he wanted to live with. It might give people an inacurate message that LGBT is wrong but if you look past that, thats not what he was saying at all.

  • @az882004 the problem is that Exgay therapy doesn't work....the attraction for same sex is still there...nothing changes.

he's living a false life. so its not that he was unhappy and made a choice not to be....it is that he was unhappy and made a choice to be a coward and hide it.

  • Mark Shields lived next door to me for a week in college.

  • omg anderson must feel so sad while giving this interview! cus this whole issue most definitely applies to him too as he is a gay man (A DAMN HOT GAY MAN). i am a gay christian. this exodus guy has brainwashed himself into thinking that he can be heterosexual again... LOL what a sad sad man. there are a lot of gay people that are in straight marriages. wtf is he doing to himself, i mean seriously... ow well it IS his choice to suppress his feelings. he ia definitely at a loss!

  • He's Gay????? Anderson cooper??? what??!!!?! is there evidence?

  • Very surpising, we cant find it on you tube! But check wikipedia or something... Im sure there is something there! But I am positive that he is gay!

  • It's pretty well known, his boyfriend for one

  • yeah its all over youtube ("the evidence")

  • 3 apparently... haha

  • "healing" homosexuality is SUCH bullshit.

  • That's so sad. );

  • oh this guy is just in suppression he is not "cured" he is just in denial he is just trying to lie to himself and others including his wife.. he wants to pass as str8

  • Oh my own comment too:

You can't escape the fact than But$eks is wow for any man - we all have a prostate gland! Some of us just find it too Ew!, so we love the babes instead.

People don't take gayness so seriously.

  • poor anderson, this must strike deep for him

  • agreed

  • @clubheadxtasy2 Yeah i rreally feel for him, but he is so strong for hiding himself and being nuetral

  • "ex-gay" therapy... lol what a load of bullshit......

  • has anderson said hes gay ?

  • No, but he's never denied it. He's been named by the Advocate magazine as one of the most influential members of the LGBT community, so I guess that's saying something.

  • "How many gay men does it take to discuss ex-gay therapy?"

Depends on how many legs the bar stool has, lol

  • Anderson seemed very interested in this discussion.. knowing that he's gay it's funny how balanced he seemed in talking about this. This interview was noticeably very awkward for him.

  • I'm so glad Cooper gave Mark the last word :).

And yeah, Chambers is...well, he's making an unnecessary sacrifice. That's how I see it.

  • Is it true that he (Anderson Cooper) performed oral sex on a man?

  • seeing as he's gay, probably.

  • The whole thing of living beyond the feelings and beyond homosexuality... is saying that there's something wrong with being gay. Lifestyle is not the same as the physical attraction you feel towards a man or woman. You can live a great fantastic life and have kids and be gay, or you can choose to be promiscuous and go out to the club and bar every night, but that's the choice both for homosexuals and heterosexuals. Guy on the left looks brainwashed. Not fully there; common with those "ex-gays".

  • Um, I guess there's nothing (morally) "wrong" with being gay, but it's a valid position to say that something is wrong with an organisms sexuality if this prevents the organism reproducing. I mean their are healthy biological uses for the genitalia and homosexuality denies them this usage (as reproductive organs). Maybe the guy is brainwashed, maybe he's learnt to appreciate his biological gender rather than his attractions. And of course it's true that homosexuality is not 100% fixed or clear.

  • "Who choose to live beyond their FEELINGS". Scary. I believe fascists live by that creed as well. EXODUS IS A LIE.

  • -so u entered the counseling, do u still have attraction to men?

-yes Anderson, I so fckn want to take your clothes off.

    LOL

Anderson was sweting cold in this interview

  • Ex-gay?? Twisted. SOOO twisted.

  • if feel so sorry for the "ex-gay" -- so sad really.

  • dude that "ex-gay" guy allen chambers is totally still gay.

  • LOL

  • You nean "gay" as in "gay" or "gay"? I mean being ex-gay is so gay anyway. Maybe it's like half gay and half ex. Like if aI have an ex-girlfriend I may still meet her time to time or sleep with her for old time's sake =). I think it's the smirk on his face that's gay. I've seen gay people with a non-gay expression so that makes sense.

  • Men that love woman do not spend time thinking and worrying about what gay men do behind close doors unless they are eager to do something they like but are afraid to admit to themselves who they really are.Why choose to think about the things you say you don't like?

  • that was actually a very civil, interesting debate for such a short snippet.

  • A sexual experience with a man does not constitute that you are gay.Gay men have sex with woman just to cover up and that doesn't mean that they are heterosexual.People get confused with attraction and sexual practices. This country is confused they bash Gay men and hardly bash Lesbians, when in fact gay men are more natural in the sense that they don't need straps to get it on.

  • It's interesting how you can be born straight, but not gay... People don't wake up in the morning and say: "Oops, I woke up gay today" or "I'm feeling so straight today". That's just ridiculous. It would be ok to me if people didn't accept me as a gay man. But I would be also ok if I hadn't to go to jail if I killed somebody or if I crossed the red light, and mainly if I hadn't to pay taxes. If I am an individual that can't be part of a society, why should I follow its rules even so?

  • basically he's still a fag and if the right dick came along his suppression would end and hed suck it.

  • wow. this is wonderful. he totally got him to admit it's not a choice.

  • Anderson seemed very interested in this discussion.. knowing that he's gay it's funny how balanced he seemed in talking about this.

  • I love how they put the camera on Andersons face right after he says that a lot of religious conservatives believe that homosexuality is a choice. You can almost see the sarcasm in his eyes. Like he's thinking: We both know it's not a choice but I'll say it anyway..because you're so fucking stupid !!

  • ted haggard is a FLAAAAAAAAAMING queen.

    he is also an evangelist.

    cocks, or money???

i would have chosen cock and man ass. he chose money and lies. oh well, his loss.

  • all three of those men are gay. the "converted" man is the gayest one on there!

  • cooper made excellent questions

  • Very funny "more info" section for this video.

  • I guess you are right.. I truelly believe that. But unfortunately the religious fanatics are still a large group, and have a lot of political and social power.

  • I can't understand how a Western civilized nation as the United States pretends to be, has so many people stuck in an unrealistic ideology that being gay is wrong.People are born gay, and I think this should be accepted. No scientist has ever proven this not to be the case. You could say the other way around either. But If people say that they're gay and they haven't made a choice to be gay, we should take their word for it. Cause know one would make a choice to be discriminated against.

  • So does Ted think he's not homosexual simply because he abstains from sex with men now? I bet he still gets those butterflies when he sees a hot dude! That's part of being homosexual ... the innate feelings of physical attraction to members of the same sex.

  • "to thine own self...be true"

  • Homosexuality is not a lifestyle choice. And if you buy this ex-gay crap, your opinion on the subject is fairly worthless.

  • Homosexuality is a lifestyle choice? Excuse me?

I just don't remember when i signed the application to be a homosexual. How about you? Do you remember when you signed yours to be straight?

  • you should do your research before you put down other peoples ideas

your making yourself look stupid and i think you should shut the fuck up

being gay is not a choice

    you are born gay

you can chose to lie and pretend your not but you can not chose who you fall in love with

  • you are an idiot. thats all =)

  • Wow, I never thought how far behind America is when it comes to homosexuality. The thought that you can choose your sexuality is considered obsolete in most countries of Europe. If someone claimed this on a TV show, hardly anybody would take it seriously I think..

  • It`s worse then you think. I have a 16yr old myspace friend down in the southern states(were all the crazies are), and when he told his parents he was gay, they sent him of to a gay reform camp for young boys, to be "cured".

America claims to be the leader of the free world, but they're backwards on so many issues.

Luckily, I live in Canada. We're more like Europe.

  • "We're more like Europe." Hmm... odd sort of comment. Are you some sort of neo-fascist? Equating Europe with being better is gravely racist. Face up to it: you're a Canadian pig.

  • We are more like Europe in our political and social views. We as a nation are fairly liberal, tolerant of others, and polite, virtues that you yanks clearly have yet to import.

BTW, I never said Europe was better, but now that you bring it up, yes, Europe is.

  • i want to have gay sex with anderson cooper

  • hehehehehe me too, not just sex... I want him to come to my door and say to me, "will you marry me" ahhh be still my beating heart....

  • @nonameformeeI totally agree with you :) even though i'm a girl

  • Come on Anderson, do a whole generation of young men a favour and be honest about who your are...

  • Dav242: Part 2. with that said...despite ur assumption that i have not done the proper research...i beg to differ. according to "my research" quote me if u will, there is still no solid evidence that homosexuality is genetic. sorry to burst ur bubble but that popular twin studies along with interesting fruit flies experiments proved to be not so promising. but hon for your sake i hope it is genetic! how's that for zero info amd talk based on LOGIC!! lol on a lighter note, how do you know im 18?

  • Ok!!Dav242: For the record i like this all too tense debate...i find it stimulating in a cognitive level. However, i feel the need to defend myself.though i do find it interesting that you have found my comments to be "reply worthy" its only fair that i return the favor. First and formost, we are all entitled to our opinions are we not? I never expressed any animosity towards Gays nor do i feel that they deserve to live under such harsh scrutiny.

  • well Anderson's smart and handsome no one would be disgusted with the vision of him having private moments with someone he likes. I personally think he's already come out in the way he frames and gives attention to his stories. I'm affraid u'd havve to look closer and be a bit more understanding.

  • i would pay to see that ! lmao

  • 4:23

i wasn't aware homosexuality was an "issue"...

  • I feel sorry for Mrs. Chambers, if there is one. Does she have to time how long her husband is in the restroom? Does Mrs. Ted Haggard feel secure now that her husband is "cured"? Will she ever be able to kiss him without wondering if those lips just swallowed some hustler's manjuice? Stay tuned...

  • Right on dav242, that's exactly where I was headed. Hormones in the womb and physiological differences in the brain are very suggestive of sexuality being hardwired by the endocrine system.

  • oh, also you brilliant logic expert - are you a science scholar? have you read all the studies on physiological development and the influence of hormones and the endocrine system to a child's development?

jerseygirl, your opinions are clearly based on zero information, zero data - just your own ignorant theories.

go do some research. and don't even start with acting like you're a superior thinker than most of us by appealing to logic.

  • one more thing, jerseygirl0707: you're 18 - take a minute to see the world through someone else's shoes for once, instead of your own selfish juvenile one.

  • yeah jerseygirl0707. that makes complete sense - it's clear that gay people like being marginalized and choose to live a life where they're forever discriminated against by closed-minded people like you to act like they're aberrant.

yeah, they actively choose to be insulted and made fun of and marginalized.

clearly they're making a choice. just like you made a choice to be straight, right??

  • personally if i could choose to either be gay or straight, i would want to be straight...just because its so much easier...but no matter how hard i try it just can't happen.

  • what does the republican debate have to do with this video? abosoloutley nothing

  • I agree it is genetic and can't change if your Gay. I think Anderson should come out of the closet.

  • farahmalika83: right on dude!!i agree. Classical conditioning: pair that bad boy up with a strong conditioned stimulus and poof its gone! btw i notice all the views that side with homosexuality being a choice are rated poorly..well thats not nice i wonder why? i mean gosh golly i got a -6!!! not cool

  • Alan Chambers is seen at a gay bar at least once every few months... guess his "straight life" isn't so rewarding after all.

  • homosexuality can be changed..the person has to want it though. Thats all. If you want something in life, a change. You go for it. If you dont, then u wont.

  • it cant be changed. its genetic. period.

  • Saying it's genetic doesn't make it true.

  • And saying it isn't genetic doesn't make it untrue.

  • I'm pretty sure you can't change it at all.

  • I agree with you-

    God helps too.

    :-))

  • So by your 'reasoning', heterosexuals can change simply by saying they want to change. Saying they want to change can somehow magically make it so. How does this work exactly?

  • that mark shield guy is in denial. there's nothing wrong with being gay, and this guy supressing his true self is sending a wrong message.

  • i made a mistake i was talking about Alan being in denial.

  • that's the most retarded thing i had ever heard. i'm 100% straight and don't have temptations or urges to bang a guy. anyone that does have that inclination, obviously was born with it. so why treat it like it's an evil disease?

  • choose=supress

  • agree

  • Interesting Anderson Cooper doing a story on this since Anderson is gay. I am sure the guests no that. Interesing how Anderson is hitting personal questions he has about the subject pertaining to himself.

  • The only one being closed minded here is you :)

  • Any one who would say God doesn't like gay people should be afraid that God will not listen to them,no matter what God you pray too God isn't about hate.

  • Can you come up with arguments not based on the bible? Because without that you have nothing.

  • "homosexuality is a sin

dosnt matter how many people do it and condone it its still sin"

    Yawn...

  • Luckily, it's very unlikely that your intolerant god exists.

  • Why do people think you can turn gay people straight? Making people into something that they aren't. That's stupid. We are all born the way we are suppose to be. Gay, straight, black, white... He says it wansn't compatable with his faith, well, we were born perfect in the eyes of God, so I don't see a problem. You're born gay so to God you're perfect.

  • you can stop from having gay sex, but you can't stop from having gay feelings, there is no such thing as turning straight from gay, and If people say they did, well then they weren't gay in the first place...

  • Alan Chambers is an asshole, and is just fooling himself..and his supposed WIFE? LOL

  • Suggested translations today still vary (morally loose, masturbators who waste their property, boys and their pederast partners, temple prostitutes serving men and women, gold-digging gay hustlers who pursue the elderly). No one really knows what these terms mean. There is no good reason to suppose they apply to consensual, respectful, homosexual acts per se, especially since such an interpretation would be in conflict with all the rest of the Bible.

  • Okay.....instead of quoting a bible passage, why don't you try changing your sexual identity yourself? Can you do it? Didn't think so. Not everyone shares your version of Christian beliefs. And your religion can believe that they can fly but it doesn't eradicate gravity.

  • The meaning of these texts, said to exclude homosexual people from the Kingdom of God, hinges on the meaning of two Greek Terms, `malakoi' and `arsenokotai.' Throughout history these terms have been translated variably (masturbatory, practicers of heterosexual anal sex, sodomites, catamites and the like).

  • Did you translate that from the original text yourself?

  • im counting three men. Who cares hes still hot

  • I feel really sad for Alan Chambers :-( He has chosen to sacrifice his natural sexual sexual desires on the altar of an imaginary god.

  • Ex-gay? YEA RIGHT!!! Good luck with that!

  • It's possible to stop acting on 'homosexuality' but homosexuality is NOT who you have sex with. Homosexuality is who you are sexually attracted to. You can't change that.

Just because you stop engaging in sex with someone of the same-sex doesn't make you heterosexual.

  • That is so true. I've heard people say that if they wanted to be gay they could, just to prove a stupid point. It'll never work. You can go through the motions, but you'd hate it and it wouldn't make you genuinely gay. Some people think sexuality is an on and off switch. It's easy to judge when you're part of a majority.

  • Did it take him 16 years to overcome his homosexuality, or did it take him 16 years to finally just say he was cured so he could get the hell out of therapy?

  • but dwinia, the problem is WHY that person was unhappy about who they were...

  • This is simply a case of someone who didn't like who they were and is doing something to change it. There's nothing wrong with that!

  • I don't know if it was really a case in which he didn't like himself, but maybe a case where he didn't like all the names and abuse he was most likely getting from most of the people who were around him. I think if he had the support of the people around him, or even if they just shut their mouths all together, maybe he could have been happy and found true love with a man instead of having to say he is cured of homosexuality and getting married to a woman.

  • good point. I agree with you. Thanks for the insight.

  • I know people who have done these "therapies"...they are not turned straight...they are just taught to better repress who they are and to live a lie...The "success" stories come from those who were bisexual and are able to deny the "gay" part of themselves and only focus on living a straight life. However, they have to constantly fight their attraction to the same sex...so they aren't "cured." They simply suppress it..

  • Well said.

  • Three gay men talking about how to stop being gay. the Irony

  • PERFECT POINT - so true!

  • LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLLOLOL

  • People that's b able 2 tranform from gay to straight must b confuse... I bet they never gay in the first place, and always beeing either trisexual or bisexual.

But who care what is your sexual preference, race, religion... Love spell the same 4 letter - L.O.V.E Make Love No War

  • Marzett918: Nope. Not likely to find one either.... Sometimes one DOES find ppl who CLAIM to have "stopped being gay": they're always not too convincing. Cetainly not to other gays, who seem to recognize them at a glance.

  • patrolmanno9: Well noted!

  • I am torn in this debate. I am 19 and gay and VERY happy. One day I hope to do some work in human rights and LGBT rights but I dont totally disagree with ex-gay therapy. Yes it does send a message to young gay and older gay communities alike that being gay is something that needs to be fixed but did u notice how the ex-gay guy wasnt preaching, he was simply I don't think there is something wrong with being gay but It just wasnt for me. So both arguments are fair I think.

  • It is great that we can have the choice to try to futilely change something so fundamental about ourselves, or we can choose to simply BE ourselves in this country. Not too shabby when you think about it.

  • they're both extremely close minded to any flexibility in sexuality.

  • The fact that we are 'ALL' here on this earth is a gift from God. And maybe the science of life does belong to a man and a woman, in one fashion or another, but the role of nuturing that life, or feeding and holding and loving a child, belongs to any man or woman, or any combination therin, who find themselves the strength and compassion required.

  • yup it takes three big fags....how hot.

  • ex-gay has forced himself into being an asexual.

  • cooper gives too much time to alan chambers, basicallyt gives him a soap box to make his case.

chambers is living a fantasy and dresses it up with phrases like "you are invalidating me" where he is far more invalidating of real gays.

mark shields is not as strong as he could have been.

but cooper should not have allowed the nut-case to talk that much, it was not fair and balanced!

  • the ex-gay needs an ex-gay voice

  • Whaddaya mean, PuddyKatz? That IS an ex-gay voice: it's about as "ex"-gay as one gets. What ppl pushing going & promoting "ex-gay" [like there is, or should BE such a thing].... what they really need is ex-VOICES. What's the good of intolerance?

  • I'm from a well-to-do WASPy family. I'm the type of person who would never want to be a minority of any kind, so I don't have to put up with other people's crap. Why in God's name would I want to CHOOSE to be a gay man, with all the BS that comes with it, if I honestly had a choice? I feel sorry for ex-gays. They must be so tormented.

  • All Three Of Them Are Gay !!!!!

  • The alleged "cured ex-gay" guy is the queerest of the 3 gays, Sorry, guys in the video! If Anderson is gay, I only have to regret... Why the most handsome men always have to be gay?!? he wouldu be the perfect father for my kids! And I believe that G'd has things more important to deal with (hunger, war, poverty etc) than be wasting His time concerning about homosexuality!

  • When is Anderson Cooper going to have his coming out party. He has been seen all over town wit young gay men and has NEVER dated a woman.

  • cured of heterosexuality!!! oh my god. seriously. it's the 21st century people. there's definelty nothing wrong with being gay.religon (which ever kind) can be good as sort of a spirtual thing. this is an example when religon is used as a negative influence on people. using religon to oppress others and yourselves.

  • All the respect a
