  • The big fish eats the litle fish!

  • this is one of the 57 cars that are still out there. the other 3 are toast

  • Why does a car with only 3000mis on it need restoring? Did they trash it?

  • @andgate2000 It was made by hand in '48 and likely has been unused and not stored well. It's called lot rot, when a vehicle just sits ignored. It likely needed a full restoration just to make it drivable.

  • Really really beautiful part of automotive history!

  • Thanks for posting this; I am still a big fan of Preston's.

    God Bless America...

  • I read something interesting in that there were maybe 35 or 38 actually made at the factory by the Tucker workers and all the rest were assembled after the auction by the people that bought partially assembled cars and the extra parts needed to finish them, I wonder if most Tucker fans know that, I didn't.

  • probably the best car of its time

  • its sad what happened to Mr. Tucker.... fucking big car companies

  • @wynn2003 - Tuckers failure had nothing to do with big car companies sorry. As a matter of fact one of the big three sent Tucker the steering wheels used until their design dept could design and build one of their own. The whole they couldn't buy steel because of the big three was movie fiction added for drama and Hollywood suspence.

  • 3000 miles is more then reasonable, I once almost bought a 1955 210 with 17,000 original miles on it. Most of it's life was lived out in a museum, as were a lot of tucker cars seeing as how only 200 or so were built, or however many were made.

  • @Murdism only 51 were made and only 47 have survived. if he has number 38 thats one of the last tuckers that were ever made and is absolutely incredible.

  • @karn33333 yeah I knew the production number was stupid low, was trying to illustrate how easily a number like 3k miles is to get depending on the cars rarity, where it's life was spent and the owner who held on to it. That even lower then I expected, though i haven't looked into tuckers that much to be honest.

  • @Murdism there is a movie about it. its pretty good that's how i first heard about them. the movie is called "Tucker" yeah i know huge surprise. its in black and white, as well as color.

  • When he says there are only 3017 original miles does he mean since he restored it? Also, is restoring the same as rebuilding? Only 3000 miles, even if owned by a grandma who stored it in a farm for 60 year old car just seems impossible.

  • @muta157 no when it says 3000 original miles, it means thats all the miles that car has ever run in its life time. restoring means you are putting it back the way it was and looked when it was originally sold rebuilding is when you get just a frame and buy all the parts to put it together. the main difference is the car is sold all together with parts that are going bad, while rebuilding you put it together one piece at a time. most tuckers were in private collection or museums so 3k is expected

  • they should make more cars with the same design like the Tucker. Not the same, bland, round, uncolored (gray, black, dark blue, dark green) cars.

  • I bought a beautiful tucker repica in 1:18 size on ebay. red and blue they come in. from wholesale diecast model. all doors open, trunk opens and shows engine, hood opens and shows trunk with luggage.

  • I can now understand why the Tucker sounds like a chopper..the motor 'is' a helicopter engine...

Damn!! ....how cool is that...., pardon the pun ..

  • In the USA it is not enough to have the best mousetrap, you have to bribe the hell out of Congress and the political parties (soft money) to challenge the establishment. Oh well, you never win by misusing the govt. because the big three wasted their advantage and are now facing extinction; I only wish Preston Tucker was around to see his prophecies come true.

  • Hell ya!

  • Best designed car overall, ever.

  • Preston had such inovative ideas, wish more cars were made. Don't have 750,000 Gs to burn on a car. Oh well, guess I'll just keep my Delorean.

  • The design is beutiful

  • Parts are still around, look up the guy that found one 1/2 made and he could tell you. I have a Tucker radio, but surely not the car.

  • A desk clerk in Pigeon Forge, TN said he had a Tucker in an old garage somewhere in Mississippi. We said...sure you do! That car would be worth so much money. because there was only like 51 made it seems it should be easy to track them down.???

  • DIEING to know.....how much is a restored tucker worth at auction?

  • Anywhere from $250,000 to $750,000 usually, depending on condition and thoroughness of the restoration.

  • in brazil have a car just like this.. black.. abandoned in a close museum.. a shame. the only tucker wo came to brazil long time a go.

  • Supposedly could go from 0 to 60 mph in 10 seconds. Pretty hot stuff for its time.

  • I have worked on the Tucker that was in the movie about 2 years ago at Classic muscle usa

  • The big 3 are dum Tucker cars are really great

  • It's not called dum son, it's greed.

  • A beautiful example of this fine car - you should be very proud of it - great post.

  • thats a sexy car!!! one of a kind!

  • I was named after Preston Tucker.

  • Great clip. Thanks!

  • Nice vid. I'd like to hear it run down the road a bit more, but good nonetheless.

I've been a huge fan of the Tucker for decades now... but wasn't the engine originally derived from Air Cooled Engine Company?

In any event, still an astonishing car by any standards. Four wheel independent suspension, four wheel aircraft-type disc brakes, rear engine and drive... hell, the prototype even had fuel injection at one point (couldn't get it sorted, though) and something akin to hydrostatic drive.

  • Thanks for the comments. This car was amazing, the only one I've ever seen. And this one won best of show at this concours. It's one of histories great what ifs.

Please rate the clip if you would.

  • Air Cooled Motors, formed in 1937, produced aircraft engines under the name Franklin. In 1948, the company was purchased by Preston Tucker to make engines for the Tucker automobile.

VW and Porsche had air-cooled rear engines for decades, but those were small cars. The extreme rearward weight bias of a rear engine in a big 2-ton sedan makes for some quirky handling characteristics. That's why you don't see any rear-engine cars being made today.

  • The only other successful air cooled large rear engine was the Tatra from Czechoslovakia. They only make huge 4, 6, 8, 10 wheel drive trucks now.

  • Thank you for this video! never seen a Tucker on web (only Coppola's film)

  • Thanks for all the kind comments.

Please rate these clips if you like.

  • I think the tucker is one of the most special luxury cars ever built, together with the citroen DS and the cold war classic tatra 87 and 603.

    It is only rarer. :)

  • my favorite car, great lines

  • lucky bastard.

  • beautiful

  • my dream car

    great lines

  • thats a magnificent car.
