@just2stoned this information is incorrect. i have the owners manual in front of me and it states that all green lights on mean your car is good. as you go on, the green lights go out saying that you are getting closer and closer to needing inspection/ an oil change. when it turns yellow, maintenance is due. when the lights turn red, maintenance is overdue. Don't supply people with false information
@miniinverter Oh I'm terribly sorry Mr. BMW owner's manual man. It would seem that I swapped the check engine light for the inspection light. This happens on youtube sometimes. You are right about the inspection part. The way you worded it sounds like I am intentionally misleading people when I am not. While you are correct, I don't appreciate your tone.
@Polofreak6n2 Wrong, It is 120 hp and 170 torque from the factory and the rev limit is 4700. With the DME, wiring harness, intake manifold and head from a 325i you can make around 180 hp.
i have the same car and they are pretty fast for stock. my odometer is stuck on 233,507 and its been stuck there since last feb and i bought it at that mileage but still runs great
@NorthFace051 I guesstimate that I had at least 350-400k on mine before it started knocking on the bottom end. Mine stuck at 166k or so and was like that for 8 more years. Good car, sad I couldn't afford to repair it. BMW parts are expensive, no matter how old or basic a model it is.
@smash8979 That isn't hardcore techno, and It wasn't really bumping. I'm not a douchebag that forces other drivers to listen to my music. On a side note, Alan Jackson also 'bumped' through that system also.
great performance upgrade on the cheap: a bolt fro, home depot/lowe's/hrdware store as your clutch stop. My pedal traveled so far (at least 3-4 inches) and all you need is 1 inch an 1.5 at the most. Takes a lot of time off the shift.
Check out my ETA on my channel...vids will come soon, busy doing stuff and my future plans are since there's a knock in the motor I plan on swapping out my engine and put in the ' i ' motor
I have a 325e (87) I got it for $300. I've put at least $8,000 into it. Now I have to replace the starter. Not cool. I'll record it on my flip camera and post. Later!!
@CollegeWebMagazine A starter is nothing. Starters need replacing on any and every car ever made. What did you spend $8000 on? With that much I would have a rebuilt motor + mods, new paint job, rims/tires, bitchin' sound system, clean interior, and pretty much everything else fixed or replaced. Your vid better show one sweet bimmer! :)
@just2stoned Hey, I don't mean to rain on your parade, but the tachometer in the video is a normal Eta tach, not a Super Eta. A Super Eta would have a 6K tach with a 5250 RPM redline; the normal Eta has a 5K tach with a 4750 RPM redline.
@BMWPOWERization The car eventually developed a bottom end knock and was donated to wonderful salvage yard that a lot of it's guts came from to begin with. I have since gotten an '87 Nissan 300zx n/a. I did like the E30 more but this one is nice. I have a thing for '80's cars. Just don't like all that electronic computer crap thats in all cars these days. I loved the E30 though. Great car.
BTW i have a denin chip in my car, now, oddly enough maximum engine speed is 5000 as previously stated however i can shift off my tac as my rpm limiter is disabled so that is obviously a falicy. i love E30
@SupraCelica98 The diesel engine (M21) is based on the gasoline engine (M20) not the other way 'round. Also, a stock M20B27 bottom end can take 7K RPM fine; it's good for higher (i.e. 7K) RPM's. The reason the M20B27 in stock from can't rev high is because it has soft valve springs, and a 4 bearing cam (as opposed to 7 bearing cams on the "i" models).
That's all good but seeing how I don't have this car anymore I don't really care :( For all I know my particular car had an engine from some other car. I cannot tell now obviously since the car is probably flatened by now. Exact HP #'s really isn't needed here anyway. It was stock with nearly 300k miles on it. It still went down the road and that's really all that matters for a junker.
sorry but max power is 121 for you. you do not have a super eta, which came out in 88. and the only difference there is the cam and valve springs out of a m20b25 for the m20b27. after 200k miles. your more than likely like me, with just over a 100hp left to my name, though my car still has 146 or the original 155psi in compression, I just didnt want you to think your car had more power than it really did. if forget which one is which, but it depends on the block stamp sayingg 200 or 883
man these are fucked up comments anyway do you know anything about these nice cars?? what options came standard blah blah blah, and how much you can get these cars for?
Standard models didn't have much. I think I had ABS, sunroof, and uh... well that's it really. Had A/C but I took it out. A nice condition version of these can go from 1k-3k. Mine was well abused before we even got it. The dealer told us he use to pretend he was a rally driver with the car on "business trips" + what I've done to it + what friends may have done to it on 'test drives'.
so you got up to like 90mph and had to make this old man car slow down cause it would probably die after? and also, why do ugly people drive old cars? just to look even worse?
Not an old man car u stupid fag i bet you would love to own something like a Nissan Micra (the latest one) just to pick up your fag buddys and go back to ur garage to suck eachother off in the back seat
haha naw man. your being stupid. what gay thoughts you have in your head is your own. you are thinking way to hard about gay shit. sooooo......? but my freind has a 1986 BWM 3 series. i make fun of him all the time. get over it man, its jokes. chill out.
haha ah man i live for people to hate. expecially over the internet. to you, i was just joking. its over here with me. so dont take it to heart. its all good.

i just got an 88' 325 and the only gauge that works is the gas gauge and the speedo bounces one in a great while at 60mph or greater, and odometer dont work, guy who sold it to me said that there is a battery in the dash that opperates the gauges,(dont sound right to me) but i know nothing on bimmers. some1 help me out
That kinda sounds right, but I don't know either. My car finally kicked the bucket recently. It still drives but it's got a knock in the motor. We've looked at the valves and they are all ok. I think it's something knocking in the bottom end. Soon this car will become part of a salvage yard :(
same exact model i got but mines a automatic but still moves just aswell. Also my oil lights always on last yellow sometimes the red comes on and the oils fine and my check engine likes goes on and off to, prolly have a short in ym dash aswell cuz when i change my light dimer shit inside it flickers on and off. BTW mine only has 117k miles so mines good ot goe for a few years =D
I think the reason that it only goes to 5,000rpm, is because it's the 325e. All others reved to 6,500 as far as I know. My 325iX goes all the way to 6,700
how do u tell if its a super eta, besides if it can rev to 5500? i have a 325 it has is badges but the chassis says 325/e/es. it has the m series wheel and shift knob too and i know superetas have them.
It is actually pretty hard to tell, because the parts are interchangeable. In most cases super ETA's are registered as 325e's. If everything is stock on the car, than you can tell by a few things. Super Etas were only made in 87 and 88 so if it's an 84, 85, or 86, it's just an ETA. If it has a single pipe (around two inches) and two mufflers (rear and mid muffler) than it is a super ETA. If it has two tips (around 1.5") it's probably a super ETA.
I don't know what exactly you mean by "M-series wheel", but I'm assuming you mean the 3-spoke sport wheel. Super Eta's didn't come stock with this, Some of them may have, but the standard wheel was a the 4 spoke. My 88 super eta has the 3 spoke which I swapped from a 5, and my dad's 86 325e also has one, so it's not a deciding factor. The shift knob, I'm unsure of because I don't think I've ever seen an E30 with a stock knob. Does your car have a small spoiler, and a small lip spoiler?
IF it has the spoilers, as well as sport seats and the wheel, it's most likely a 325es. The two cars drive almost exactly alike until 40 or so, then the 325e drops off a little more than the 325. If you still don't know from all of these, you can send a picture of the engine compartment and I can probably tell. There are some really little things that differ (for instance the coolant tank on the 325 is located near the side, and the 325e it's more over the engine. awesome car either way.
Ok confused.....I though the WinMX network was shut down....used to use it until it stoppped working.....is it back online? Well, if you have an AAs degree then spaned some damned cash on your beemer so the next time you do a film hopefully it will be with the benefit of a nitrous injection kit.....hmmm....that'll really piss of the local cops :)
our good friends in england still keep it up and running you just have to track down the right copy. As for the degree, I didn't say I was employed. Soon though.
Bah! I forgot to answer your other question. No I'm not going to school for photography. There were some hotties in my class I just had to get a picture of before I graduated. I have a AAS degree in Information Systems Technology. As for the '06 M...Chah! If I had the money to get that I would have been able to take better care of the one I got now. It's not really on it's last legs it just needs some TLC.
Great vid! I see you like my sort of music as well. Any chance you could do some more vids of your BMW assuming you've got your licence back? That'd be great!!
hah. I appreciate the flattery but my bimmer is on it's last legs. It's not special in any way, meaning no rims, bad paint, missing glovebox(got stuck and had to pry it open for the cops, they made me!!). If you like the music it's trance hardstyle. The track playing is from DJ Bizerk - Your Slave.mp3
You must not have read the description: "NO I'm not trying to impress anybody.." Thats nice yours goes faster. Judging by your username, you have an 'i' model which naturally would go faster.. Lemme re-state something: NO I'm not trying to impress you or anyone else here. It's just a video of an old ragged BMW with an estimated 300,000+ miles on the engine. BONE STOCK people. It's not supposed to impress you :)
The only reason my brake light is on is because while installing the pads, I accidently broke that brake warning censor wire off :/ Brakes work A-OK though.
Does That Really Have 300,000 miles On It? Anyway it would have been better to hear the engine rather than the radio for the video. I love the sound of even the stock E30 325. Although I Have A Dinan Exhaust/Chip + Bavarian Autosport Air Intake/Headers BTW To "cheiede14," I Think It Was 127,
heh sorry I had brought my digital camera with me one day for a school activity and was just playing around with it. It was hard enough to hold the camera in position while steering, shifting, and merging onto the highway. I don't think you would have heard anything from the car if my radio wasn't on as it's just stock everything.
it's an '87 325 i bought used 9 years ago. It's always had that stock inline 6 in it like most others from this year range had. I don't know if the RPM gauge is original but the RPMs are pretty spot on and accurate. People say you can take these cars to 5000rpm but I wont try. It does lose it's top end power near redline so I think it's all original stuff.
People here - Europeans mainly - have no idea about the 325/325e/325es (or 525e/528e for that matter). Especially the four-year-olds on their mummie's internet account. They all think it's a diesel because that's the sort of redline diesels have. Bless :)
rpm is low because of the low stroke, high compression characteristic of the single overcam engine. It might have a very low rpm, but the torque is about 171 ft. lb. Ur car seems to be in excellent condition just2stoned. That's impressive for a 300000mile old bimmer.
i know!, my 1st gear only goes to like 40km i think and the rpms rise so fast its crazy, i wish they bumped up the hp to like 180+, that would be killer
40km? mine gets to about 35mph I think *would have to check*
I prefer the Economic engine versus the I engine. The I is faster, but the tourque is more usable. You can always turbo the 325i or drop a S52 in. Or just swap the diff.. haha I'm going to have a 6.5 second to 60 car with 3 bolts
This particular car is pretty torqy (spellcheck!).. well it WAS at least. The car is now about 1ft tall in a salvage yard. I have a 1996 BMW Z3 1.9 just collecting dust in my shed with a blown head gasket I may fix one day.

Best performance upgrade for your money is the Signature Motoring performance cold air intake kites for these E30s. I have one in my 89 325is.
-Adds 9-11 HP
-Never replace filter again (K&N)
-GREAT SOUND
-Installs in maybe 30-45 min. K&N filter lasts a lifetime.

Does your car have a small spoiler, and a small lip spoiler?
tearsfortrust 4 years ago

Promix101 4 years ago
our good friends in england still keep it up and running you just have to track down the right copy. As for the degree, I didn't say I was employed. Soon though.
just2stoned 4 years ago
Well if it's on it's last legs time to get a more recent one....how about an M Powered Series 6? :)
You mentioned you had your camera for a school activity are you like studying film or something?
I prefer DJ Tomcraft who you may or may not have heard of.
Promix101 4 years ago
I have, I think, all of DJ Tomcraft's tracks. WinMX rules!

Hey Just2stoned,
Great vid! I see you like my sort of music as well. Any chance you could do some more vids of your BMW assuming you've got your licence back? That'd be great!!
Promix101 4 years ago

OH! and yes I do have my license back with 0 points on it. :)

It's not supposed to impress you :)
just2stoned 4 years ago
and besides, my license was revoked when I shot the vid.

i didnt say u were im just sayin its nt that fast! kk

Hey, you also have the brake lining light on! My 87 325 does the same thing, the only thing wrong on a 20 year old car.
Unfortunately mine is an automatic, but at least it has the sports gear and god is it fun!
andyhoov 4 years ago
The only reason my brake light is on is because while installing the pads, I accidently broke that brake warning censor wire off :/ Brakes work A-OK though.
just2stoned 4 years ago
The brake lining light was actually bad on pretty much 87 325 made, I remember reading somewhere that they there was a recall about it.
My bimmer's previous owner obviously never got the notice.

Does That Really Have 300,000 miles On It? Anyway it would have been better to hear the engine rather than the radio for the video. I love the sound of even the stock E30 325. Although I Have A Dinan Exhaust/Chip + Bavarian Autosport Air Intake/Headers BTW To "cheiede14," I Think It Was 127,
upintheskyguy 4 years ago
heh sorry I had brought my digital camera with me one day for a school activity and was just playing around with it. It was hard enough to hold the camera in position while steering, shifting, and merging onto the highway. I don't think you would have heard anything from the car if my radio wasn't on as it's just stock everything.
just2stoned 4 years ago
Nice. I'm buying my `87 325/e tomorrow. Was looking for some good reviews, but seeing for myself = x10. Thanks man. Can't wait
h4z3987 4 years ago
The E30`s with 4-sylinder engines had this low redline ;)
(316 and 318, and maybe also diesel)
So I think you have a rpm-gauge from a 316 or a 318, OR your car is an origninal 316 or 318 with 325 engine.
MoePower2 4 years ago
it's an '87 325 i bought used 9 years ago. It's always had that stock inline 6 in it like most others from this year range had. I don't know if the RPM gauge is original but the RPMs are pretty spot on and accurate. People say you can take these cars to 5000rpm but I wont try. It does lose it's top end power near redline so I think it's all original stuff.
just2stoned 4 years ago
People here - Europeans mainly - have no idea about the 325/325e/325es (or 525e/528e for that matter). Especially the four-year-olds on their mummie's internet account. They all think it's a diesel because that's the sort of redline diesels have. Bless :)
pulandlordal 4 years ago
I think that it is DISIEL!
PAPANJA 5 years ago
'tis not a diesel I'm afraid. straight medium grade gas.

check my car out... search: bmw 325 vs 330
crowface23 5 years ago
lol... i drive an 06' 325... its at 7,800 rpms... but 7000 stock... 4500, thats crazy... still a bmw tho, way quicker than i thought
crowface23 5 years ago
rpm is low because of the low stroke, high compression characteristic of the single overcam engine. It might have a very low rpm, but the torque is about 171 ft. lb. Ur car seems to be in excellent condition just2stoned. That's impressive for a 300000mile old bimmer.
redknightricky 5 years ago
nice but how come the redline is so low?
s40turbo585 5 years ago
Ask BMW. This is the way the car has always been.
just2stoned 5 years ago
its't a 325e (economic)that's why the rpm is so low. it was made to save fuel. it hat 136 hp or so.
cheiede14 5 years ago
121 hp, somewhere around 170 torque. They would actually accelerate faster than the 325i if they didn't have such low gearing.
tearsfortrust 4 years ago
i know!, my 1st gear only goes to like 40km i think and the rpms rise so fast its crazy, i wish they bumped up the hp to like 180+, that would be killer
oldschoolcrx 3 years ago
40km? mine gets to about 35mph I think *would have to check*
I prefer the Economic engine versus the I engine. The I is faster, but the tourque is more usable. You can always turbo the 325i or drop a S52 in. Or just swap the diff.. haha I'm going to have a 6.5 second to 60 car with 3 bolts
tearsfortrust 3 years ago
This particular car is pretty torqy (spellcheck!).. well it WAS at least. The car is now about 1ft tall in a salvage yard. I have a 1996 BMW Z3 1.9 just collecting dust in my shed with a blown head gasket I may fix one day.
