  • If I got a dollar for every dangerous parakiller collapse I saw on the you tube, I'd be able to buy myself a new hang glider.

  • @shess0501 Oh, totally agree - he did the right thing at the right time, no argument. Not worth the wait to see if it sorted itself out.

  • quick deployment of reserve...good job!

  • Good reaction of the pilot after noticing of been raiser twisted, braking is almost futile by having to think fast on which brake to pull and line friction gets them very hard. Reserve throw is a smart choice. If you haven't used a reserve before, do it. Get used to the reserve it will save your butt! (Daniel Villalta P4 ushpa)

  • If you look at 0:09, it looks like if he hadn't thrown the reserve the wing was back in good shape to fly.

  • Remain CALM-COOL-and COLLECTED...

  • Nice one but wing should have been piloted in the first place

  • I would have to change my pants.

  • Collapse was preventable. Braking the first surge, he would be in a sort of short parachutage acompainning the downward wind, then in the exit, release brakes to continue normal flight.

  • Vaya susto!!

  • To all Parachute-guys who think Paragliding is more Dangerous:

In germany we count about 50.000 Papagliders and about 6000 Skydivers. The statistics count 12-14 deadly accidents a year regarding papagliding and 9-12 regarding Sky diving.

If you set these numbers in ratio to the number of people who carry an these hobbies, you get 18 dead per 10.000 people skydiving and 2,6 dead per 10.000 paragliders. So going for statistics skydiving is about 7 times more likely to die while skydiving.

  • if you take one more step back and look at the bigger picture, they're both pretty dangerous!

don't get me wrong, I live to fly!

  • perfect reaction !

  • GREAT LOW SAVE - awesome that the reserve opened straight away and that it was thrown away from the direction of travel to increase opening speed

  • Buy that man a coconut! Damned good reactions, boyo! Hope you are OK, m8!

  • I would have been yelling.

  • GREAT SAVE!!!

  • Result = ALIVE. All the matters.

  • @iftyshifty no!" it is not ! all that matters because this is clearly saying, it is about killing you in a collapse and see if you can manage to scape next time and next time until one time he or someone else doesn´t make it. I am horrified at the insane number of crashes, over 80% of paragliders are dead, I am beginning to suspect this is chosen on purpose by people who actually seek to have an accident

  • @match20045 "over 80% of paragliders are dead" - Could you please explain and/or back up this statistic? I won't deny pilots have some penchant for risk-taking, but then again every time I ease my car onto the highway I'm taking an enormous risk... :)

  • The coming of the collpase whas pretty obvious. Wing pitches forward, brake it! Nice reaction dough

  • Uma experiencia e tanto...

  • I'm sick of mard arse wet necks on web sites making cocky comments about things, these people would be the last to open their mouths if face to face in a room, such as Tanto.

  • Best decision but as soon as the reserve is deployed the wing is flying perfectly!

  • Lot of experience!

  • the experience is worth the risk.

  • great reaction and right decision

  • Und Acrofliegen ist gefährlich?

  • This sport doesn't only require courage but a lot of stupidity, too !!!

  • that comment says alot about you man sum people actually get out their and have the balls to do the things the love no matter what the risk and sum people are just pussys like you:)

  • Before you judge someone, know whom you're talking about first. I'm a former Air force pilot and YES, I've jumped out of many planes!

  • you should take some of your own advice about judge people.you said this sport requires stupidity yet you say you"jumped out of many planes"whaths the difference...explaine!!

  • I used a parachute NOT a flimsy glider!! That's a big difference, asshole.

  • their are plenty of parachute videos on here colllapsing any one reading these comments here can see your the asshole.i hope the next time the parachute does not open!!!

  • Thanks.....and the luck of the Irish to you, too!!

  • agreed with the ballyheigueboy comment... you also put out a bad image for the air force. since when does being a pilot make you an authority on something you know nothing about?

  • Gee, you sound stupid. How would you know my area of expertise?

  • Great work man! Fast response to the situation! You are my hero now :)

  • bravo

  • Nice good jop

  • ok than good job man

  • once again ....super great reaction and very lucky!!!

    Good job dude !!!

  • wtf causes those huge wings to collapse. dust devil? stall?

  • good reflex!

  • very fast response...good job...

  • good good

  • Good recovery

  • Same collapse , I lost 200 mts, collapse, negative spin, and stall, beacuse overeact, all in a flash, thanks to maneuvers clinics, I´m here, to fast to scare, and short time to react, take maneuver clinics every year, scare 1st and very exciting the next ones, don´t trust that only one course in control situations is going to give you the fast response that this guy had, maybe, but take more, and practice! it´s more fun and secure. repack reserve every year for fast deployment

  • Out of curiosity... why didn't he break off the standard chute after deploying the reserve?

  • I think the basic answer is that people are cheap. If you design your backup system so you lose your (expensive) shoot after you deploy your reserve people will think longer before they deploy their reserve. The reserve is designed to be thrown and for the pilot and equipment to land safely. Aditionally the safety equipment is designed to have a very secure connection between pilot and main shoot to prevent accidents, so there is not easy disconnect.

  • brother, this isnt skydiving, reserves arenot certificated for freefall, rig isnt equipped with three ring system, only one thing, VERY VERY GOOD REACTION NEAR GROUND AND DEATH... COOL MAN

  • dude that was crazy. that was chance i would have to say but a good chance none the less.

  • Hello Everybody.

    This is an Italian Pilot.

I Think so: This is a frontal collapse that recover immediatly.

But the Pilot as you see KEEP strong down the left hand putting in NEGATIVE SPIN this beautifull wing.

Yes You know a Negative at low Height, you must just to shoot Rescue.

    Good Fly Everybody.

  • good job...

  • good job...

  • that was a textbook example of how to deal with that situation

  • lucky and cool

  • Nice Work Man. Perfect time to make the call and huck.

  • well done on the quick reserve deployment

  • Kept his cool and did what he had to do instead of panicking. Good Job. It saved his butt big time.

  • I found myself in a worse collapse. I was flying over the takeoff and just after a 40% collapse it followed a 70% or 80% collapse. I had only 12-15 mts height and just after seeing the 70% collapse I throw my reserve. I did it left handed since I was trying to stable the canopy with some right break. it was amusing. there wasnt even a milisecond between the deployment of the reserve and my landing. it was like a miracle.

I understood that they realy work. unluckily there is no one recording.

  • Nice job!

  • Amazing!best reaction ever!good job

  • GREEEAAAT! Very good reaction! You saved your life. Thats how it should be!

  • I fly hang gliders and just like the cloudbase009 stated above, I can't believe the pilots on the ground just stood there. Everyone had a brain fart at the same time.

Glad to see you make it dude.

  • What should they do? Fly up to meet him in mid-air? He obviously landed nicely and was unhurt so there was no need to rush towards him with sirens flashing.

  • they were too busy clapping for his great reserve release

  • how is this possible???? How can something like that happen???

  • I have flown this site many times (stara planina, sopot in Bularia). He is flying just to the east of the chair lift station which sits on a ridge. He's low and if the wind is quite strong and he's in the lee of the ridge he'd be in rotor (very turbulent air). This can cause the glider to collapse and quick pilot action is required especially if he was flying a performance glider. He did a great job. Lucky he didn't land further down in the gully where the wires are ...

  • Idk if its the angle but that glider looks like it has very high aspect ratio. Seems like it would collapse easliy (duh)

  • Pilot did a great job throwing his reserve and he needs to get a new wing because this one looks very unstable.

  • He had sutch a luck thad he fell out of the lee rotor. The reserve wouldent help him if he is still in it. This guy is a damn lucky pilot.

  • What the fuck is the deal with paraglider pilots just standing around after things like this go down. Those other pilots must be suffering from post-denial or some shit, funny, why didn't you just blow him a kiss or send him a card after you got home.

  • You clearly don't know much about the sport. Firstly the pilots are largely clipped in to the canopy and harness - by the time they unclipped it was all over. Secondly there is no point in running anywhere whilst he is in the air. If he should impact then a couple of pilots would assist - leaving others on the hill to contact medics (better signal on the top) There is no point in panic - people who panic do not fly paragliders.

  • These accidents should be played back "FRAME-BY-FRAME" less than two seconds in and we can see the shute is in trouble. This is a 'design' fault.

Please take immediate action to sort this problem out!

  • Great piece of flying there. I think many pilots would have tried to 'fly it out', however, I think he absolutely made the right choice there!

  • Great reserve throw there, so pleased that I have had plenty of practise throws - though hope I never have to throw in anger.

Sopot is also a great site to fly by the way, even as a relative beginner I was able to fly my first 1 hour thermal flight there followed by an 11 km mini XC later that day. If you don't know the area ask local pilots for advice - I took training there with skynomad and local training centre/club.

  • Looks like the wing started to fly again just as the reserve deployed. Round of applause for his speedy reserve chuck.

  • The wing re-inflated as the load was taken off it by the reserve opening. if he had'nt thrown the reserve the main wing would not of recovered in time. he looked like he landed safely, thus he mde the right choice. better to do a reserve re-pack than be paced off home in a box

  • holy shit, that was a fast twist after the collapse. Good reaction with the reserver tough

  • I am just starting in Paragliding! That has scared me to bits. What happened? is that a common thing?

  • Relax. I've been flying for almost 3 years now and I've never had to throw a reserve. I'm not sure whether the guy on the video had a front collapse after coming off a strong thermal and not controlling the glider when he came off or the air was turbulent (you should never fly in turbulent conditions). From this video I cannot tell which is the case. In any case, he did very well throwing the reserve immediately as he was way too low.

  • I am flying on this site. There is a rotor on this place when the wind is from west, nord-west.

  • lol and you just finnish your cource, what the hell dude the paraglider was originally designed to land spaceshuttles but tehy tok the design and started to use it for fun, go and buy your reserve tommorw yes this is a common thing, failuredesign of the millienium, a paraglider is, start skydiving instead its more fun and much safer.
