I'll preface this comment by saying that the song is beautiful and the execution of it is wonderful as is the guitar playing. As a message song, and by extension, as an atheist hymnal it is effective but it leaves a strange and sad hollow afterglow for me, because I want to say that Jehovah has already come down from His mountain in the person of Jesus. He knows the beauty of this earth because He made it. He is not indifferent or ignorant to us, and death is not the end...!!!

I have never heard a song that makes less sense. You say Paradise is here? One eith of the planet is malnourished. Much of the war is engaged in bloodshed. I hear children cursing their parents, saying, "I have slapped my mother across her face" with much pride. You are telling Jehovah, to descend to the earth, and drink from waters that he gave to his creation to drink. The "spell" here on earth is richer than Jehovah himself will ever know. That contradicts this paradise you speak of.

Regarding the youth that you believe I have attacked; this is something that I have observed. I have seen the composite sign of the last days foretold by Christ in it's realization. i think you missed the point, as i've said on another video, this song is saying that BOTH heaven and hell are on this earth, we don't need the promises of heaven because of the outstanding beauty of the world and the people we are with, and we don't need the threat of hell, because there is nothing more evil than what can be done by man kind. i hope this clears up the meaning behind this beautiful song.

God I wish I could study that Sobell guitar of his. Martin has played many of the finest guitars ever made, but damn, those Sobells are just the the ne plus ultra of any acoustic guitar ever made. It takes a player of Martin's calibre to really show how fine they are.

I've seen Martin in concert six times. He's so generous with his time, to concertize in so many places. Met him at Healdsburg in '99, where he gave what I'd call a Guitar Philosophy course. It's because of him I build guitars, and Stefan is the luthier I most want to emulate. Players like Martin Simpson, and guitar makers like Stefan Sobell, are the whole reason for this mad pursuit. He's been mining rich veins of ore from all sorts of musical traditions since the beginning. But do you agree, essy111 seems to think he's shilling for the evil Jehovahs? Hmm. common misconception. in the bible god reveals to moses on the mountain his name is actually jehova. god is just lehovas name so the jehova referenced in this song is just god and it is not a dig at the jehovas witness society. martin has always held deep repect for gospel music but did introduce a song the last time the last time i saw him as "a hymn i removed god from because i dont like the wake he talks to george bush"

I can vouch for the quality of Sobell's. Especially the one played in America on his last tour now my proudest possession. And as for Stefan, he spent 45 mins talking about the guitar and i hadn't even brought it from him. And yes Martin is true genius and a gentleman.
