  • For those arguing, Kristin was trained as a classical singer. She has, since then, crossed over into musical theater.

  • im in bad voice..."angelic voice"

  • I love her persona! She's so funny. And I don't have to say I love Ellen, of course. No one can not love Ellen.

  • I love her, but she did not just say O Mio BAMBINO Caro.....oh boy.

  • Haha - easy for YOU, Kristin! She cracks me up. If you're thinking of breathing from your hooha, you're less likely to get all uptight and serious and breathing shallowly. That's great to remember.

  • she´s so cute so little and that funny spoken voice hahaha

  • "Excuse me, I'm in bad voice today." Bitch, please.

  • Do re mi fa sol la si do, not! :D

  • @XiaoDemon117 Ok, I just lost around 20 minutes of vocal warp up because I couldn't take it anymore with these knee jokes, I had to so some research!

  • So weird to see how far Ellen has come with this show!

  • "You were in Wicked so you sing opera..."

Right when I stopped watching the video. Neither of these two deserve to touch opera.

  • @daveyflavey Wow you obviously know nothing about her then, Kirsten is a classically trained opera singer, she just happens to do musical theatre as well. She has a gorgeous voice.

  • @kevkevshields You do realize that Musicals are not Opera right? If she was a trained opera singer she would be singing in operas, not musicals. There is a difference in technique between the two styles. Just because you get voice training does not mean you're an opera singer.

  • Wow I love people who have no idea what they're talking about act like they know what they're talking about. The major difference Opera and Musical Theatre style is placement of the sound.

Kirstin has done opera also, she was in the New York Philharmonic revival of Candida.

  • @kevkevshields The placement of the sound, the fore-knowledge of the different resonating spaces within the body, use of language and diction, the technique of using their vibrato, there are many things in the voice alone that separate opera technique from musical theater technique.

Though the biggest difference between the two would be their Musical construction i.e. musicals are simple and primitive compared to opera.

  • @daveyflavey In fact, musical theater came about during the 19th century because the English were not able to create their own style of opera, instead everyone just wrote Italian operas (which were the popular style of the time). To create an English music and stage work, they combined simple songs with spoken dialogue (stealing from the german Singspiel) and began what was the beginnings of musical theater.

  • @daveyflavey AND ALSO, Just because she sang in an opera does not make her a good opera singer. Some opera companies will cast celebrities simply because it attracts money and attention, this is no reflection on musical ability. Nick Jonas sang in Les Miserable in London, does this make him a good singer? No it doesn't.

To call musical theater opera is an insult to those of us who try to work in that field.

  • @daveyflavey Kristin received a full scholarship to Philadelphia's Academy of Vocal Arts. Do they just give them to people not capable to perform opera? Hmm........

  • @eelw22 Yes. Yes they do. I can personally attest to this.

  • @eelw22 She is a good broadway soprano. Compared to the likes of Diana Damrau, Natalie Dessay, and Sumi Jo she is nothing. She is good at what she does.

  • @rekupp Yes I will admit Kristin's current vocal abilities aren't at the same level as the 3 you mentioned. But if she had continued her opera training, no doubt she'd be just as good. But being a true triple threat, she didn't focus all her training just on the vocal performance.

  • 1:22-1:24

Did Kristin change pitch? It sounds as if she went sharp.

  • @Sensorie it went up to a C#, i'm pretty sure..

  • aww she sso cute!

  • lol it's J-Biebs!Ellen

  • she's soooo cute! <3 Great singer and actress <3 Love you Kristin <3

  • Breathe From Your Hoo-Hoo XD

  • I used to sing like you....but then I took an arrow in the knee

  • times like this ellen really wishes she had a dick

  • She just went to a high C# with nothing. hahaha.

  • @figureskate1000 Yes. But, it's a head voice. Not a full, connected voice.

Kind of like a hillbilly yelling "woohoo!"

Hitting that same note on full voice is a whole different matter.

  • I just absolutely adore Kristin Chenoweth

  • americans are so prim

  • hahaha

  • She is so silly.

  • her speaking voice is kind of annoying but her singing is AMAZING

  • ms noodle.

  • @z0mbyisHxC ;) Well I can sing them, but not amazingly well, so I'm not exactly bragging. And I have to warm up like INSANELY before doing it. My voice isn't amazingly developed yet.

  • that solfege was wrong

  • I love Kristin Chenowith and I can sing those notes an I'm a young teen :)

  • When I first saw her was in Pushing Daisies (didn't really know her background yet) i'm like "who's this tiny little woman?" Then Glee came...then I'm hearing Wicked...Defying Gravity...saw all her performances here in YT. And I'm so fascinated by her. She can do everything and anything

    Just love her

  • I would pay 1 million dollars to have Kristin Chenoweth be my vocal teacher. :)

  • is that her singing opera ornot?

  • haha ellen looks like a guy here

  • lmao..imm say those things...heyyy youuuuu over thereeeeeeee

  • She must carry a helium tank with her.

  • shes goooood tho.

  • "You're a Wanker Number 9!"

  • That was supposed to be her bad voice? Girl, stop playing.

  • @DefyGravity464 She says that because she had just gotten done with I think 2 shows that day...

  • @DefyGravity464 I KNOW!!! IM LIKE R U KIDDING ME!?? the woman sings better on a bad day then most of these tiny boper pop stars on a good day!!!

  • What is "O Mio Babino Caro" from? I mean not the aria itself but the part where she demonstrates it? Oh and also what are the arpegios from?

  • @alika207 3:07

The arpeggios seem like they're from a vocal warmup...

  • Wow. I'd love to have her as my vocal coach <3

  • Chickashay city

  • Haha, if only it were as easy as: Breathe low and hit that note I just sang :D

  • @Mathostatoast Exactly what I said before!

  • She's saying do-ré-mi... but that's not what she's singing loll!

  • "Breath from you're whoo whoo!" Haa haa! My vocal coach said the same thing, and she also had me do the siren thing. LMAO!

"Excuse me, I'm in bad voice today." WTF? When is she ever in bad voice? She sounded amazing! I freaking love her!

  • That solfeg thing sucked... but she probably knew that and just did it to be funny.

  • Chenoweth participated in a number of vocal competitions and was named "most promising up-and-coming singer"

  • How can you not love her?

  • sometimes sounds like mickey mouse....

  • this person is an opera singer?? she sure has an EXTREMELY high speaking voice. wow.. ( I kind of want to say annoying speaking voice.. but i don't want to be rude).lol

  • Oh my god she's amazing. I loved her on Glee and Ellen.

  • I do the siren!

  • what show is she on at 1:56-2:05 and 2:18

  • this looks sooo old. like something from the 80s, lol.

  • ahahhaha, i love both kristin and ellen, breathe from your hoo hoo lol

  • So THATS where the ''hoo hoo'' song came from! lol

  • I can't understand.. what does she mean by "hoo hoo"??

  • @samanthabianchi86 "hoo hoo" she means her vagina

  • @samanthabianchi86

Congratulations, you have a healthy mind. My advice--stay away from Scrubs and Family Guy. They will mess up your mind and brain.

  • hahaha kristin is so funny

  • I LOVE HER

  • she was just demonstrating a high note,

and she just casually sang a C#6.......

    ...amazing...

  • @goldentuna I think my head would blow up trying to sing that high... :( She makes it looks so easy!

  • I try to breath from my hoo hoo as much as I can!

  • @famousmermaid ever since she said that thats how i breathe now lol

  • i do the siren too but i call it whale calling LOL

  • she is great <3

  • she was on ellen! ah! :D teehee

  • Somehow, it greatly amuses me when she says, "Sorry, I'm not in good voice today."

Man, if I had that kind of a voice on a GOOD day, I would be so glad!

    She's amazing!

  • @sm21454 You can tell though, there's something up with her throat. Something raspy, did she have a cold maybe?

  • @sm21454 i know shes like im not in good voice today! i love how shes not a straight opera singer. shes a belter country singer, pop singer, and an opera singer, most classical/opera singers can only do that

  • @broadwayxdude06 I disagree, I'm studying to be a classical singer and basically everyone sings other stuff too. You just use a different kind of technique, less operatic, when you are singing anything else. Classical training is good for every type of singing.

  • @chocoholicchic92 oh no you know what i mean. like a lot of classical singers sing classical songs of course. kristin seems versatile. i mean besides her, most classical singers that i know can only sing classical music. really? and im just asking of course because i mean nice words don't translate too well on youtube lol. how is classical training good for every type of singing? i figure i'd ask. me my voice teacher is classically trained so basically all i studied was classical and mt

  • @broadwayxdude06 They sing classical because it is their job to sing classical, and to sing it well. I find lots of so-called "big" songs are a million times easier than most classical pieces. But as you age, the trained voice tends to always head towards the operatic sound even when you are not singing operatic songs. You can still sing anything you want though. Opera singers still sing along to the radio :D

  • @chocoholicchic92 i thikn thats because most classical pieces you have to sing classically and with technique, big songs you want your power so you just sing it and not worry about technique i wouldnt think because you wanna sound like belty and good or w/e haha yeaah i know they do! i never said they didnt sing along to the radio.:p heck everyone does that :p

  • @broadwayxdude06 You can still use some technique for non-classical songs, but it's just a lot more cruisy technique-wise. Haha so there you go, classical singers can sing other kinds of music.

  • this help me so much in my singing

  • those are actually really good vocal excercises....my voice teacher always tells me to "breathe through a straw" but I've never used an actual straw....x]

  • why do all the shows want to hear her excersises? lol it was comical tho

  • She's fantastic. :)

  • ha this is awesome!

  • Ellen's face at 1:26. LOL.

  • anyone have the whole interview at 1.58?
