When they were deciding to do Gluhen, they never asked Tsuchiya Kyoko, the orginal character designer, for permission to use her designs. When she saw them using them, she got pissy and sued. So, the character designs had to be redone for Gluhen.
Personally, I like the Gluhen designs a bit better and I'm glad they changed to show how the characters have changed since the end of the first series.
@SoulZero I had heard they changed the character design because of some kind of falling-out between some of the people who worked on the original.... Am I wrong?

I think I'll always love the original of Weiss XD No matter how cheesy, I love the original. But the next series looks cool too.
