I'm coming up to 2 years in a call centre and I hate it but again, I'm comfortable. I find it very hard to look for another job because I'm always exhausted mentally from my job. I also can't find anything with a similar sort of wage and benefits (flexible hours).

I've gone part time to give myself more time to look for that elusive better job and to give me a kick in the arse because I won't be able to live on part time wages for too long!

my job role is - to take phone calls and push to sell insurance... doesnt sound like much, but when there are 50 calls in the queue and the team leaders sit there doing nothing - it makes your blood boil!!! you get no end of angry people and rude people, and just too much hassle

you arent allowed toilet breaks (you can but everything is tightly recorded) so if u have just had a very stressful phone call, you cant take a second to recover, no you have to take the rest of the 50 calls.

Trust me, its a burn out job. dont waste your life doing it.

It can be succesful to you, IF you are the best seller in the company, but when theres been people there for years, its almost certain fail

I must say, i'm very glad to hear that. No one i ever met was happy at a call center. Oh ya, at first they think its great, but eventually it starts to kill you mentally. I lost ambition to exercise and everything. It's a black mark on my life IMHO. I'm happy for you. I was known to be pretty calm and cool on the phone, but some customers there is literally nothing you can do if they are upset. 3 supervisor related calls in a row, how do you feel? pretty shitty? ya ok, here's a pen.. now how do you feel? " like wtf? were not kids here, i don't want "pizza day" like im in elementary school. Eventually i caught on, and realized I was just a number, then i started to put the same effort in as the client was, which was very little.

I left the call center job a good while ago now, and I've lost 120lbs - its a new life, I have things to figure out still, however my life was going to end much to early based on the mental stress and poor eating habbits.
