I am looking at a used Ford Crown Victoria police interceptor that has rust on undercarriage. More specifically the rocker panels all the way back to under the gas tank. It looks like it is only surface rust. Other than that, the car seems to run like a top. The seller claimed that he also repainted the car himself. Is this car worth buying and rustproofing anyway, or should I move on?
@jpgbrookes Look, I don't mean to advertise, but it's totally worth it if you plan to keep the car for over a year!!! If you don't want to go all out and pay $120 for a thorough job, you can go to any rust proofing place and get just underbody protection for $50-$60. If you have a hoist, you can buy some formula and apply it yourself for $20.
@jpgbrookes The interceptor isn't worth buying. Sounds like the owner painted it for a quick sell. He could have covered surface rust with bondo which is a half-ass quick sell job that will come back to haunt you. Also the police beat their cars to death.
I think your right. After I asked him to take it to a shop I picked out, I called a week later to see if he actually took it into the shop. He did not take the car in, and he did not call me back. So yeah I think I dodged a big bullet there lol
Dripping isn't the only issue. It's the hole drilling! That can actually encourage rusting if not done properly. Even quality of work vary between Krown locations. How does Corrosion Free protect without drilling?
@1stb1 I work for Canadian Tire in New Minas NS. We use Corrosion Free rustproofing, and it is an excellent product. It is odor free, dripless, and it does creep. It has been tested and is one of most effective methods and is the #1 product in Canada for environmental safety. A great product you can't go wrong with.
anyone have experience with corrosion free (produce name rust cure formual 300)? i've looked around everywhere in forums and almost no one has commented on it. the canadian military R&D did an experiment on metal bolts with different rust proofing products and found formula 3000 to be really good, but that doesn't necessarily translate to actual application to a passenger vehicle. is the chemical really dripless? no smell? does it creep if it's dripless? can't buy it in US, i'm thinking of mail
