  • a classic from winsford des vignes. thanks

  • not the original

  • @nashorie To the best of my knowledge this is the original.. Do you know an alternative version or can you find a version which you claim to be the original?

  • I agree that this is one of the best kaisoes of all time. It has been embedded within my conscious memory since childhood.

And let me stress that this is KAISO, music with African roots, lyrically opposed to European "progress". I would not call it "calypso", which is an overused European word.

  • @AlmightyDreadlock

While you make an excellent point, I believe that it is our right to use the word calypso.. It is ours, and as such as need to use it as much as possible, thereby avoiding "giving at away" to another culture..

Calypso and Kaiso, both words and what they stand for belong to our nation, a fact that will never change...

  • badmanelias, I appreciate the sentiment, but you're incorrect. Calypso is a goddess from Greek mythology, so "calypso" is a European word, not Trinidadian. On the other hand, "kaiso" is derived from a Hausan (African) word, which one shouts in encouragement of good singing and dancing. To me, this is the word which really encapsulates the spirit of our music, and it has the appropriate ancestry.

  • i have been searching the entire afternoon for this song
