I hate hitting that plateau.. I found myself at the start going up 10-15 pounds every week for benchpress I started at 110 until I hit about 170 for reps in a few months and I could not pass that no matter how much I challenged my body. This is where I needed different chest exercises.. switched from benchpress and dumbell press to cable pulls and chest flys.. helped alot.. now i'm starting to gain again.

But I can feel my body telling me when it needs to work out, and it tells me that it likes certain things, thus starts my routine.
