@cassiusjennings1992 The same side arm that you kicked with is use to swing your body for extra momentum. And basically NO, because the leg is longer than the arms and hence he won't be able to reach him.
bro, you are so weak. the name is homo, period; don't try and defend it. (not to mention you just stated you jizz on guys, which is most certainly homo).
and you're a liar, you've never been anywhere near a gym.
Whats with the fruity hissing every time he goes to kick. Its like he steps on a cats tail or is pretending to be Thomas the tank engine pulling out from station.
why are you guys criticizing someone. i will put money on it that you guys havent trained as much as him. and if youhave then you still shouldnt be saying anything. i dont see you gus with any videos on how to do it
Nice garde.. Why are you kicking him in the hip? Your target is the thigh, to weaken the leg thus decreasing mobility of your opponent. Also if you want to use power, kick a heavy bag... Really, if you want to learn Muay Thai don't listen to a westerner. Especially not an american.
Wow, don´t bristle on my comment. You´re kicking on the pelvic bone!? Have U ever fight? Kick on the thighs or on the soft tissues down the ribs. You´re talking like a pro, but the movie is too funny. May be you have seen the Thai´s way, but U don´t show it. Little girl.... uaauaaauauuaa
good technique. it's slow so I know you aren't up on the ball of your foot. But, I can see that your hip rotates as one solid piece all the way through the target. Your hands counter the rotation and your left hand ends up right by your chin to counter the right hand. Nice.
too high?! Are you kidding? Have you been to thailand? They don't even train low kicks. They don't have banana bags. They always train kicking mid to high. If you can kick with power to the chest you can kick low. You have trained for 3 months and now you think you're an expert.
ipecc11 -- In this clip, there are two variations of the round kick shown: (1) to the left thigh and (2) to the left ribs using the belly pad so I can show some contact. I'm not kicking to the hip bone. My target is Robert's short ribs. But, since you brought it up, have you ever been kicked to the hip bone. I have. It feels worse for the opponent than the kicker, to be sure.
I have to disagree with you Reno. It doesn't feel great to get kicked in the hip bone, but it's not the type of pain that's gonna slow me down any, if you know what I mean.
which is more practical in a street fight. Just block the on coming hit and go on, keep moving forward. Im no pro but i went to a muay thai academy for a year and now i do mixed martial arts. and whats with the guy in the video he said keep his hands up but he doesnt do very good job at it. It just seems to me he doesnt want to make a youtube video to show people how to do it. Just wants to make the video to be a show off.
Come on jediscum he does to know what has talking about. And the whole grabbing the leg thing you talk about isnt muay thai. xxxecetxx is right a good counter is with a jab. A jab to the chest preferably because the opponents head moves to much the chest is pretty much stationary. U see grabbing the leg is not taught in muay thai in muay thai you just learn to take a hit and go on. no flinching, or elaborate counter moves.
I agree. I don't teach anyone catching until they can move and miss kicks without flinching. People think because thai boxers take kicks that they can take kicks. Wrong, always try to move. standing and taking punishment trying to catch kicks is stupid.
xxxexcelxxx: You make a good point about countering this leg kick with a counter punch. That's one of several excellent counters (although it requires good timing, as all techniques do). However, I don't recommend using a broom handle to toughen up your shins. Shin toughing is best done slowly, over a period of time by repetition of kicking (a) heavy bags, (b) banana bags, (c) Thai pads, and (d) leg pads. Trying to short-circuit the process leads to problems.
HAHA I've heard crazy shit like this dozens of times! It's silly. The best way to toughen your shins is to kick a lot! People always just want a quick fix, but quick fixes don't work well in Martial art.
Crezzyman: You bring up a good point. There are several counters to this Thai round kick. The guys at Team F.A.S.T. are interested in doing some more video clips, so I'll probably address that in one of the upcoming technique demonstrations.
So how would you go about blocking one of those kicks? It's nice to be able to know how to throw a kick, but it's also good to know how to defend from one.....
best defense for a thai kick is not a defense at all its a counter with a straight punch. if you wish to defend it might be dangerous it requires you to go shin to shin. great strength training is roll a broom up and down your shin it will hurt at first but in time they will get stronger
they really focus more on demoralizing, immobilizing your opponent so all that sweep cute stuff you see is good for multiple oponents not really in a find and no you can not use it in a ring
A counter is a defense. But remember, with this straight punch your in danger of leaning right into the kick and eating even more of it's power. I'm not saying it's totally wrong, I think it all boils down to each individual situation.
To be fair, I'm showing a simple version of the right Thai round kick and I usually do it this way for beginners so they can get the motion down. You really want to bounce off of the floor with your right foot and throw this kick a lot quicker than I'm doing it here. There's also another version I like that Ajarn Chai calls the "hop into it" Thai kick that is done that way for more power. It can also lead to other follow-ups.
I have had three NHB fights, and although I like to kick, I just do what it takes to win.
Steve does stop by my gym to show us some pointers, but we are sparring mma 90% of the time. I've learned from him that it would take a lot of one on one training to learn the fine details of a great art such as Muay Thai.
I think you guys are really good for having such a limited amount of training time. But ya Muay Thai like anything else takes a very, very long time to master. Over a decade at least.
Yeah, the guys training have not had a lot of actual training time in Muay Thai. The guy in black, me,(Bobby Strouth) started out Kung fu , then transitioned to NHB.
The right hand wasn't as close as it looked from the camera angle. The liver kick is what ended the sparring session...it landed good. I'm not a Muay Thai fighter to say the least.
I'm no expert by any means but to me at least completely guarding your face seems a little hard for me to see my opponent. I've experimented with your guard for a little bit but what I do now is put my hand over by my left eye like I'm trying to see a long way off and then guard the other side of my face with my shoulder. But I guess everyone has their own way of doing it.
Ok instructional vid on a thai kick. Covers the basics well. The second part doesn't hold up to what was being taught in the first part though. The guy throwing the kick completely dropped his guard and almost ate an overhand right. And the liver kick while affective if landed, appeared to be blocked in the clip. Have either of the 2 guys sparring had any thai training?

the kick is cool, but i do not understand why they are lefting the hand down and covering the head with the other hand, why don't they just hold the both hands up to guard the head ?
His right hand is "going down" because that motion is part of what makes the kick so powerful. With the correct technique, that side of your head should be out of range from the opponent's left hand (ever tried to punch someone while being kicked in the ribs or face? lol) while ur other side is protected from strikes.
Wow. I had forgotten we filmed this one. And look at you, Bobby, using the right Thai kick after a straight blast of punches! That was smooth, baby (and sneaky, the way it should be).

What part makes me the loser, the faggot part? Remember im not the one making "getting stoked" noises for no apparent reason.
myjizzureye 2 years ago
1. What makes you a faggot is your name contains "jizz"
2. "hissing" is far from the strangest sound people make in fighting/training
3. If you knew anything about fighting, if you ever fought (and I don't mean with your boyfriend), "hissing" wouldn't be a shock.
4. Admittedly, people make noises that at times seem like a force, but these noises also come from some of the best fighters I know.
5. Go into a gym and try out your theory of kicking people's asses who "hiss"- let me know how it goes
