As a teacher originally from Asia, I find it difficult to teach in America. One of the reasons is because kids have been trained to be arguementative and political by their parents to not respect what teachers say in class. They want grades but don't want to do work and nobody cares about the truth. Everything is about proving someone else' wrong so that you can look better in class.
I am also a teacher. Are teacher in Asia unionized? It shows that the countries with the highest test scores have the highest unionized teachers. Are most countries in Asia unionized?
Teacher "X" teaches 5 classes. He teaches 3 Algebra classes, 1 Advanced Algebra class, and 1 remedial class. His first four classes are okay, but his last class is utter chaos!
Why?
Is it because the class has 43 students instead of 35?
Or maybe because the majority of the students don't speak English?
Could it be that it's late in the day and the kids are tired?
Or maybe, just maybe, the kids are DOWN-RIGHT LAZY?
Stop blaming the hard-working, dedicated teachers!
I would like to inform you of a job opening at McGavock High School in Nashville Tennessee.
An Algebra teacher, Mr.Donald Wood recently was let go . . . Perhaps, this is your opportunity to prove that you are just not an arm-chair quarterback. I want to see you do it! 3 months! That is all!
Hey, if you think you're qualified to evaluate teachers, then, you should be able to teach, right?
the united States has a Horrible attitude toward teachers! Because of this US schools will always be inferior to schools in other countries!!
In countries like India teachers are revered! Students in these countries work so hard in school. There is so much respect for teachers in India and other Asian countries!!
Parents in the US need to be much more involved in their child's education and take Responsibility!!!
@FTWEVEREYONE Agreed! I've see many African American parents attack teachers, esp. white teachers when their children are loud, and totally disrespectful. Then, Rhee doesn't think parents are extremely important to their child's education. Yes, there are some bad teachers that need to leave, but again, respect needs to be given teachers
Unfortunately, school advocates in the city say that Rhee is the most secretive superintendent in memory, as well as the one who demonstrates the least understanding of budgeting
I'm guessing you really know what you are talking about. I'm also guessing you also have your Masters degree like Rhee does. If people go to work and aren't doing their job correctly then whats the point of being paid? It's a waist of money.
matthew..... having a Masters doesn't mean squat if you can't manage people properly. I suppose that as I don't have a degree of any sort I shouldn't be entitled to an opinion on any subject!!! She has a very officious way of handling matters and having the power to sack people at will should not be given to anyone. Negotiation between parties is how it MUST be done. I suppose as you have a Masters you should be able to sack people if they don't salute? Get into the real world.
I wish her well. I'm glad she cleaned up the bureaucratic nonsense. But her smiling acceptance of being called a dictator is frightening. I hope she puts in the work of understanding those in her charge and building community partnerships. She is the stereotypical Teach for America alum - she comes equipped with an unchangeable notion of what needs to be done and on what terms. But now she has extraordinary power. Her tenure will be a referendum on programs like Teach for America.
Michelle Rhee also quit, and "gave up on the children" after only three years.

She left to earn more money or just to do something else. She never gave a fuck about education. She wants to be a politician.
