Was on the rock from May 85 to Nov 86. In fact my unit was on the 3rd floor of Bldg 430. FAAD Battery then it changed to LAAD Battalion right before I rotated.
I knew a few guys from FAAD, but can't remember their names anymore. They worked in the armory across the flightline, and I worked there as my units Armory Custodian for several months (June to Sept) in 1985.
Were you in 430 when someone set off a smoke grenade on the first floor? They smuggled it back from the Northern Training Area and burnt up a room. Tracked down to one person by the lot number and a fingerprint on the burned outer casing. I think it was traced back to someone in FAAD.
The armory was in the underground bunker (originally a Nike missile magazine/elevator/launcher). I recall the place so well because of my working there 4 months, and every once in a while not being able to see the sun until the weekend (had to be there before the sun came up to hand out pistols, and after the sun went down to recover the rifles). Everyone else who didn't work there came just once a month to clean their weapons, unless it was time for their annual qualification.
My thanks to you for having that favorite link on your page of the: Okinawa RAFP (Ryuku Armed Forces Police) 1968 video.
I probably never would have found it on my own, and it's always nice to see how others spent their time on Oki. Especially the older vids, as they seem to be much harder to find.
AWESOME! holy cow I was there from 1986 to 1990.! great video! i wish i would have thought about making some vids. Thanks for the memories. BTW you can get royalty free music from the internet if you still have the master video AROUND TO reload!
I thought about royalty free music, but decided to leave it silent. I was thinking about putting in the description "If you would like to play your own car driving tunes to accompany this vid ,go ahead, but for real authenticity nothing that came after July 1986!", and I'll do that now.
I have the DVD I recorded the original VHS to, so it wouldn't be a problem, just wish I could put the vids up here with the original audio. Well, in 100 to 150 years, my descendants will be able to, maybe. LOL!
I was there @ this time with H&MS-36 @ Futenma, can't remember the barracks # but 430 sounds familiar. I was there July '85 -July '86.

I cant recall the smoke grenade but I can remember the countless times the fire alarm went off cuz we were melting car wax to buff the hallway floors.
I was with HQ platoon FAAD in the communications section. Im drawing a blank on the armory. It wasnt in the underground bunker was it?

I can still remember seeing all the 12ths Howitzer cannons from the many times I drove past the west side of Foster.
