You're just feeding into this image you've created that it's "cool" to listen to bands that nobody knows about. Just enjoy the music, regardless of how popular it is, and support the band if you like it. Bands like Thrice, Death Cab For Cutie, and most notably Radiohead have had relevant mainstream success and have elected to stick to making the music that they want to make, not the label's music.
