  • Dancing Slinky!

  • Woka woka

  • 43 people deserve to be blasted by the little guy :)

  • 0:52

  • Love the trumpet solo, any ideas who wrote it and it's title?

  • @falcons1988 I don't remember the name of the song, but i believe this is from Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass.

  • @elshpen and @falcons1988 - it's an instrumental piece called "Java", originally composed for piano by Allen Toussaint, later re-recorded by trumpeter Al Hirt.

  • Hahahaha, freaaakin awesome. Mann, they don't make em like they used to.

I was too young to really get most of this stuff as a kid when it was on, but looking at it now, just pure genius.

  • I remember this one! You've made my day! Soooo funny! :-)

  • DELIGHTFUL!

  • про дедовщину что ли?))))))))))

  • If only you could buy dusters like these ...how much fun you would have doing the housework !

  • lol

  • 38 people had no childhood

  • Absolutely the bizz. Fantastic way to smile. Thanks to u xx

  • What amazes me that it can "turn around" and look "up and down"!

Mean Big Java! The Mini one just wants to dance with his own beat. (And its hard to dance the same since their leg lengths are so different~)

  • Poor Mini-Java

    *gets stepped on* Eeeeeeee!

  • @FelidaeWarrior iz funnee!

  • @Wheeljack214 Hahaha... why thank you!

  • i luv this video it is soo cute

  • Freeze-frame through 0:54 - the expression on the little guy's eyes after the first and second hit are absolutely spot on, hilarious!!

  • How many of you watched this because you searched java (as in programming).

  • Are there words for "Java" like there is for "The Entertainer"?

  • lol at 1:46

  • the little one is like a annoying little brother or sister

  • This is my three-year daughter favourite video.

  • Love this

  • 34 people are worked with Java (and Eclipse).

  • it shouldn't be funny, it really shouldn't, but it is!!!

  • when i saw it i thought i would fall out from my chair

  • lol!!!!!!!!

  • I HATE the programming language "JAVA", as it is a programming language for dullards and slack jawed dimwits, but this (having nothing to do with the programming language) is quite nice.

  • love this it is too cute

  • I can watch them endlessly!

  • Puppeteering at it's finest. First saw this on a rerun of the Ed Sullivan Show. Loved it.

  • Name of the Song? Oo

  • @PizzboyGetsPizzas java by al hirt

  • @PizzboyGetsPizzas java by al hirt

  • 31 people have no souls

  • @animegal951 32 now

  • God bless you, Jim Henson.

    You gave us so much

  • omg....that was the original Shoop da Whoop!!! <3<3<3

  • Great!

  • A classic piece of television was 'The Muppet Show' :)

Henson & his team earnt every cent the hard way, and damn did they deliver :)

Would a childhood memory be complete without some memory of 'The Muppets' ??

    I think not :p

  • Of course we all know how awesome this show would become, but my god, can you imagine the nightmare that Jim Henson must have gone through while PITCHING this? "No no, just follow me with this here... A variety show about these weird, undefinable creatures dancing around, and sometimes their limbs can turn into guns. What? Oh, uh... no real reason as to why."

  • @Bobzeaux I remember seeing an earlier version of this sketch on the Ed Sullivan Show. The Muppets started on the Jimmy Dean Show, then were frequent guests on Sullivan, so they were well known to the American public. Kermit and some newer Muppets were on Sesame Street, then Jim Henson developed some characters on Saturday Night Live's 1st season. The Muppet Show was made in England, where Henson was given more creative freedom & was syndicated to U.S. stations.

  • what ever happened to kermit?

  • *insert lame comment about dislikes here*

  • Used to love this show! Finaly discovered the artist who did this song was Al Hirt (famous sax player from the 60's)

  • Developing software is hard, it is not only about developing a solution, but design, the process, all......It's kinda magic, just like this video

  • This reminds me when my youngest son would try and do what his older brother was doing. 7 years difference, and the younger one (not even in school yet) would drive the older one nuts wanting to be involved.

  • How can something as simple and silly as this put such a big smile on my face?

  • Great! Purely visual and emotional.....anyone on the planet could enjoy this.

  • Thanks to Jim Henson - I was exposed to many Classical music pieces.

by this one I was exposed to Al Hirt when I was a child.

  • Poor little muppet. Although the squee when it gets shoved off is hilariously cute.

  • That just has to be the coolest thing ever.

  • THIS MAKES ME SO HAPPY! xD

  • I thought this video was about java of sun!! waste my time!

  • It would have been great to have gone to a live studio performance of a Muppet Show.

  • Whoever was the trumpeter must have had Al Hirt's original sheet music in front of him because he was spot-on.

  • i thought this was a video on java the program though this shit is much better funny as hell - my new fav

  • this always bring a smile to my face whenever i'm sad :-)

  • I seem to remember something similar to this skit, only the song was "In the Summertime" (by Mungo Jerry). It was just the music though, no singing, and if I am remembering this correctly and not, in fact, making it up, there was a somewhat round, fuzzy/fluffy (feathery) and pink muppet with long thin yellow legs that does a similar dance/shuffle to the song. I don't remember if there were any other muppets... but... does this sound familiar to anyone???

  • I FOUND IT!!!! OHHH THANK GOODNESS!!! The name of the song is "JAVA" by Al Hirt...a trumpet player..The song is from the 60's....He's also the one who did the music for the show "The Green Hornet..(The flight of the bumblebee's) and some others....Oh..I'm gonna sleep better tonight...LMAO =-)

  • Does anyone know the name of this song??? =-)

  • I think i remember this from some sixties show like Johnny Cash or something like that, long before the Muppets were on the air...I distinctly remember this being in black and white, and the little muppet gave the bully muppet his comeuppance with a flamethrower of all things. Seems they toned it down a bit in this version.

  • so funny simple but highly clever in its puppetry,if any one could make two tumble dryer hoses create this kind of mayhem it could only be henson and crew ,just started getting the muppet show on dvd ,love the way miss piggy gets a tilt in her mouth to look huffed , and then hiyaaaah ,a classic thank you

  • Whoa!! I Thought I Had It Figured Out How They Did/Filimed This!! But When That Character Turns Around, (1:07-1:12) I Didn't See Any Holes Or Handles Or Anything. So That Right There, I Don't Know How They Did That Without Giving Away The Puppeteers Positioning!! Pure Crazyness!! Thumbs Up Anyway. Thank You Jim Henson

  • @WuTangMan3699

I've seen Java performed by the crew of Henson Alternatives' 'Stuffed and Unstrung,' most recently a month ago.

Basically, the big slinky has a black rod down each of its legs from the wispy tufts. The little slinky actually has the performers' hands down by its wispy tufts.

  • I loved this---simple, funny, with a tiny bit of cruelty....it's always hilarious when the show-off bully gets his comeuppance!

  • I love their "black art" work.

  • I love the Muppets! Those who thumbed it down either hate Al Hirt or have no idea what a good show The Muppet Show is.

  • true awesomeness :)

  • how cute :)

  • ingenious

  • JAVA!!!!!

  • Pointless Trivia: This tune was not composed for the island of Java, nor for coffee. It was inspired by a racehorse named, "Java."

  • a jazz classic

  • lol i looooooooooooooooooooove this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This...

    It's weird...

    It's catchy...

It goes out with a bang...

    It's PURE HENSON, BABY!

  • Al Hirt ftw!

  • I want to know which song it is!!!!! AAARGH

  • @langen90 Java By Al Hirt

  • i love the muppets. brings a smile to my face

  • Some good ol' fashioned jazz, a pair o' living Slinkys, and wacky comedy...what more do ya need for an epic win? :D

Godspeed, Jim Henson. You're sorely missed.

  • I like the one they did for the Ed Sullivan show better, I think the music might have been played live

  • NICE!!!!

  • Awesome!

  • LEG POWER!!!!

  • Oscar likes it...

  • In Henson Alternative's "Stuffed & Unstrung", they actually performed a recreation of this famous bit! It was completely loyal to the original, even with the coloring of the Java Muppets. It was great.

  • @Pooleman96

Were you at the 5/27 performance? I was twiddling my fingers in anticipation for the 'explosive finale.'

  • @uruseiranma No, the 5/29 performance.

  • @Pooleman96

Ok. Btw, did they also do the "Face" sketch as well? I was trying to find the original of that on youtube.

  • @uruseiranma Yes they did, and the puppet that can be considered the descendant of Yorrick looked great!

  • Another classic Muppet routine from the pre-Muppet Show guest appearances.

  • I remember this although I called it the dancing slinkies when I was younger.

  • @Whit451 HAHA, i called them Slinkies, too!

Ya know, it wouldn't surprise me if Jim Henson was actually INSPIRED by the Slinky for these Muppets; it's been around just over fifty years.

  • HAHAHA XD

  • 1:47 - He may be small, but...

  • the little one is like "Let me dance you fool!"

  • 0:53 is my fav part!

  • This is like what goes through my head all day...

  • I adore this little stompy stomp dance! These two critters made me all Smileyface tonight.

  • jaja grandioso a los niños les encanta

  • every time the lil one showed up i was like ROFL xD

  • his very funny

  • :D Awesome!

  • Words cannot express how awesome this segment is.

  • ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!

  • ha! the little one got his revenge lol

  • this originally aired on Sesame Street in the 70's, without the laugh track (which was added to all Muppet Show "bits")

  • reminds me of that orange monster thing from those diet commercials

  • The Muppet Show Was so cool, I remember watching with my mom, dad, brother and sister. Hating to watch from the kitchen when it was my turn to do dishes.

  • @necessaryevil455

I know what you mean. When I was a lad and my folks wanted to ensure my good behavior, they'd threaten not to let me watch the Muppet Show if I misbehaved. It worked every time.

  • @4a8p9x I'm almost embarrassed to say I've use similar tactics on my son but, you're right "It works every time". muwahaha!

  • 1:46 revenge is a bitch!!!!

  • can be very political if you think about it.

  • aww....cute!

  • what's the name of this song? catchy!

  • I think the song is called "Java".

  • Poor little slinky thing

  • cool!

  • I love this sooooo much, I have boys of 4 and 6 years and we all love it. It's good to watch if you feel a bit down as it will cheer you up instantly.

  • I seem to remember this clip scaring the shit out of me as a kid.

  • Best MS sketch. Period.

  • So glad I found this! Watched this all the time as a kid, my sister and I called them the dancing slinkies.

  • Best music number in all of Muppet show History.

  • Jim Henson was pure genius... we could have used talent like him today.

  • I agree. 20yrs after his death and he still still greatly missed today. While the muppets have lost their touch these days it's great they are still so popular and that is mainly down to Jim and the original muppet team.

    :)

  • @e1foley What passes for 'talent' today could learn something from Jim Henson.

  • @e1foley Henson is a god and they should have named some stars after him

  • Always loved this bit. Thanks for posting!

  • muy divertido ja ja ja

  • Haha...

Sin for the small one. xD

  • He was the most excellent creator of the awesome.

  • ARGH! I watched this when I was about 7 years old because my mother had an old muppets tape!

This was my favorite clip and I remember it so well now.

    NOSTALGIA RUSH!

  • Every time I watch this clip I need to hammer my fists into the computer table in the same rhythm as this melody.

What a catchy tune, and a funny Muppet Show clip too.

  • ikr. so awesome

  • Awesome indeed.

    ikr?

  • We did that one for our church performance.

    LOL!

  • The big guy looks totaly stoned ! His eyes are really cool !

  • jim henson and his crew are the best!

  • 0:56 and 1:20-1:26-LMAO!!!!!!!

  • *high pitched* eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeehhhhh

  • I abosulutly love this clip, its so random!

  • I don't remember the title of this song. I've already heard somewhere I'm sure some guys took this melody for a pop song but I don't remember which one...HELP!!!

  • This song is called "Java" and was originally recorded by the late great Al Hirt.

  • "Java" was written and recorded in 1957 by Allan Toussaint (under the name Al Tousan) for piano and orchestra; in 1963 Al Hirt made a transcription of the piano part for trumpet and had the hit version, which won a Grammy for "Best Performance By an Orchestra or Instrumentalist With Orchestra, Not for Jazz or Dancing". I kid you not.

  • I LOVE the muppets!

  • s'like me and my sister. ahahah

  • The little one's so cute. :D

  • LOLZ :52 !!!

  • Comment removed

  • I take it your being ironic?

  • ahhha i'm pretty sure i had nightmares about this...

  • some of this stuff verges on the surreal at times, but it's heaps funny!

  • the muppets are as funny today as 30 years ago

  • Hell yeah! that is what makes them so special

  • lol XD

the little one is so adorable!

  • oh so cute!

  • Amo quello piccolino *ò*

  • Absolutely priceless!

  • It's a shame "Muppets Tonight" was never as good. I think their mistake was in changing the format. They should have kept it the same and just made more because that's what everyone loved.

  • Their 'mistake' was letting Disney buy them out.

  • Gosh, I love Jim Henson. What a brilliantly creative mind.

  • The little one reminds me of Corey Haim as Lucas.

  • eeeeeeeee

  • haha, a real powerleg :D

  • i love the big one! :D
