@genisisfromdef people sample cuz they like the song and they make it into a funky ass groove that others who listen to hip hop might have never heard that shit. like me i was into hip hop then i would hear the samples and it makes u like em more. sampling is art ur dumb
@esk8r62 im not arguing tha its not art. Im arguing that theres a lot of fake, backpack producers that feel like they make great "beats" because they use great SAMPLES. You may be one of them..i wouldnt know. But the truth is, if there is noone to pioneer innovation then HipHop, much like disco. Will either die, or turn to pop.
@Kuato222 First off, artists pay LABELS, not the ARTIST. Learn your facts before you make another 3rd grade argument...secondly, I gave the vid on your channel a listen and as an ex-producer you confirmed my suspicion that you too are one of those happymeal producers that lay garagebandesque drumloops over brilliant songs and try to call it an "art"..ive sampled that song before, i know my music...especially my Hip Hop. im done with this argument. You can continue to steal and I wont judge.
@genesisfromdef Lol I just said artists pay the labels not the artist...can you read? And I never called my shit art...it's just one track I sampled for fun. It's not like I'm making money of that shit, I'm just learning. I wasn't arguing that what I do is art...in fact I never once used the word "art". I was defending legitimate Hip-Hop producers.
Sampling is stealing...no matter how you slice it. If it were sex, you cant just say "hey bro, can i borrow parts of your wife?" NOOOO...sampling is stealing. so stop it please, you're not a real producer if all you do is loop things
@genesisfromdef Every genre samples now, most modern music uses a sample somewhere in it's process of creation. You shouldn't go around criticizing something you know nothing about. Go read up on it and you'll find I'm telling the truth. Hip-Hop just takes all the criticism because it pioneered sampling. EVERYONE samples from composers to modern soul artists.
@Kuato222 That's the poorest excuse for musical laziness and lack of talent I've every heard. What's to know? It's not complicated - other people do the work, come up with ideas, arrangements and so on. Hip hop cronies steal it and claim the glory. The sheer lack of imagination and originality AND talent in hip hop beggars belief. It really is way past its sell-by date.
@nialldcrowley I don't think you heard what I said. Hip-Hop is NOT the only genre that samples anymore. So stop blaming hip-hop, sampling is used in a variety of modern music, and like I said most artists use samples somewhere in their process of creation. Go read up on it before you blurt out all this crap.
@Kuato222 I know all too well about what Im talking about. Some people do sample with skill...but the fact of the matter is when you take something without adding anything new or origional to it, its stealing. The Rza is amazing at sampling..Kanye isnt. Im not arguing that it isnt an art or that it isnt doing people a service...i am arguing that stealing is stealing. you can put lipstick on a pig but its still a pig.
@genesisfromdef You never said anything about that before...you just said sampling was stealing plain and simple. Now you're coming at me with reason and logic all of a sudden. You obviously don't know much about hip-hop if you think RZA is great at sampling...I'm not saying he's bad but he's certainly not one of the best. And as far as Kanye goes, sometimes he's not very creative but he's certainly talented in my opinion. Have you even listened to all of his albums?
@genesisfromdef or are you just making generalizations based on the Kanye songs you've heard on the radio. Dumbed down Hip-Hop sells because frankly most Hip-Hop fans aren't very bright, and Kanye is aware of this fact which is why he makes some of the music he does. You're missing the point of Hip-Hop, sometimes you need to grab a quick sample and lay some drums down over it and just get your voice out there. It feels good to express yourself, sometimes it doesn't matter if it's simple.
@genesisfromdef Too right. There's a whole generation or more that's not just stealing, but using the music of the past simply as a crutch to lean on simply because they haven't done the hard work themselves. Really you could drop all of their music into a big hole and no one would notice in a few years. They really have done nothing to advance popular music.
... Great tune.... but still different to the 7".....sold mine, unfortunately, if I get one back I'll post it.. when I figure that out!!!!...Still a "Head, Shoulder and Hip Groover"

@genesisfromdef Not to mention most artists pay the labels for sample clearance, so it's actually not stealing at all.
