its a very sad day when our own valuable police force has to be used against our own people to further the aims of foriegn multinationals. Our land abounds in natures gifts of beauty rich & rare & Its bloody unAustralian not to stand up & care!

I love how all of the talkings with the local elders and broom community happened MONTHS ago. Now that people actually realise something is happening they get of their arses and do something.
Too little too late.
I feel really sorry for the cops. They're standing there asking people to move being incredibly gentle and nice and no one listenns. Technically they ahve the RIGHT to arrest every single person there for not following police orders. We should be proud of our police force.
@Scephria - You are misinformed. The broome community has been fighting this for a long time. The police were not so gentle, dragging a lovely 76 yo man along the ground and then arresting his son who tried to help him. Disgusting. The shame of it is that i and many in town did have respect for the police, and these guys have smashed that respect. I feel no such pride in them right now, but I do feel pride in the Broome community for standing together to fight for what is right.

People the song is by local Broome band The Pigram Brothers. It is called Raindancing. They are an indigenous band who were born and bred in the incredible Kimberley. There are among hundreds of Broome families whose lives will never be the same if this country is taken away from them. Please go to The Save the Kimberely facebook page to find out more and sign the GetUp petition.

I wonder if the police feel good about what they are doing? Maybe they think it gives them power to conform to the system and that's how they are rationalizing this.....they certainly don't look happy to be doing what they are......absolutely heartbreaking........
i'm 16 and live in chicago, IL (so its hard to get to Australia), but i wish more than any thing I could have been standing there with them, protecting beauty.
The weak pricks always hide behind doing they're jobs, they have a choice. If a few had the heart to turn around and lock arms, then we might start heading towards the country we all hope for.
So let's not turn this into a witch-hunt against the police, they are just doing their job! Let's look at the governments involvement with big business, and their total disregard for all people, white or indigenous.
At the end of the day it is so good to see the aborigines of this country starting to reclaim some pride in themselves and their culture. It's been a long time coming, and let's hope it continues!
I feel ashamed to be a WA citizen. Those police do not represent the people. the represent the government and the miners. They are low paid revenue raisers who drag 70yo men across the street. The protesters need to rise up and fight back. The police shouldn't be hiding behind their badges. This is shameful WA. Shameful.
Another class example of the Australian government getting it wrong. I really don't think 'SORRY' from a random prime minister in 50 years time will fix this big mistake, but I'm sure in 2061 they'll give it a try!
I am embarrassed to be an Australian when something as beautiful as Broome has been allowed to be distroyed by industry.
Aussie police a corporate hit squad... representing the UNLAWFUL acts of corporations over the lawful right to free speech and protest of citizens. This is BULLSHIT - i'm real proud of everybody who stood up to these people.

"We're just doing our job" - that's what apartheid cops said in the old South Africa... when it all changed those pigs were at Bishop Tutu's Truth and Reconciliation commission asking to be forgiven... How about you pigs get some intelligence before responding like drones... FFS
One of the biggest problems modern society faces is the terrorist mindset of our police who seem intent on enforcing elitist corruption and the destruction of their country rather than their true role of protecting society....
Modern Police have unfortunately left their path and have become the criminals they pertain to stand against.
my heart goes out to those at the blockade, knowing full well woodside do not have the required paperwork so saying that they are stopping law abiding workers is all bshit.

Those police arrested every well meaning person in Australia yesterday! Shame on you all!
