Second, a plain-text reading of the constitution places the value of a black person ("Negro" is the word used in the actual text) at 3/5ths of a man. That was corrected with the 13th & 14th Amendments. I think what Whoopi was trying to do was to get McCain to clarify what he meant when he talked about judges and how they interperet the Constitution. She worded it poorly, but the question was valid.

First of all, the American People DO NOT vote on consitutional ammendments. It takes a super-majority (two-thirds) of the House and Senate to pass a Constitutional Amendment, which then has to be ratified by simple majority of State Legislatures in 34 of 50 states. We, as citizens, do not get a direct vote on the ammendment.

The Constitution does not endorse slavery. Also, abortion does not just concern a woman's body, it concerns the rights of another living being. It's up to the woman to decide and I'm all for that, but one who does decide to have an abortion should consider the rights of this other living being who does not yet have a voice. The issue is not what a woman can do with her body, but what she is willing to live with on her conscience. Sure, an abortion may be the best option in certain cases.

Im a white dude single parent who had to use welfare to help with my wife who was dieing of cancer. SHe was between jobs. The strongest woman /person I have evermet at 4,9 adn 99 llbs she took on Cancer in 7 or 8 spots 5 differnt types of Chemo and 4 differnt bouts of radiation. Most of that stuff kills off people after the first series. SHe did it for me and my child .. worried for us. My child is mixed racialy. I dont care if a woman is Vp or prezz ... Thx bro when 911 hit I was worried for the country but I was more worried for my wife who didnt have long to live. I felt guilty for being able to live and watch my daughter grow up and knew wife had only months was 5 months later she died. Im more active politically cause I worry for my daughter and her kids. The founders of this country clearly said that we should be able to own slaves. I could use a slave myself and I think that, given time, you could be trained to be a useful, obedient servant. You know deep down that you really don't want to be free anyway. Negroes were much better off under the white man's guidance.
Unfortunately slavery is never coming back because there aren't enough people who support it. I've been trying to convince other whites that we need slavery again.

They are not slaves. Illegal Aliens can leave any time they want. it was there choice to walk or boat here then can leave the same way. Slaves could not. Convicts are not slaves. They broke the law. They can leave as soon as their prison term is up. slaves are people who wore bought and sold like cars and food. No human is bought and sold here in the U.S.A.

Second, a plain-text reading of the constitution places the value of a black person ("Negro" is the word used in the actual text) at 3/5ths of a man. That was corrected with the 13th & 14th Amendments. I think what Whoopi was trying to do was to get McCain to clarify what he meant when he talked about judges and how they interperet the Constitution. She worded it poorly, but the question was valid.

the question was valid? a strict constitutionalist judge would rule that slavery is illegal according to the 13th amendment. the only way whoopi would be a slave again is if a judge ignored this amendment or if congress changed the law. outlawing slavery is not an issue of interpretation it's an issue of legislation. whoopi obviously doesnt get that.

First of all, the American People DO NOT vote on consitutional ammendments. It takes a super-majority (two-thirds) of the House and Senate to pass a Constitutional Amendment, which then has to be ratified by simple majority of State Legislatures in 34 of 50 states. We, as citizens, do not get a direct vote on the ammendment.

Whoopi implied that an originalist interpretation of the Constitution, faithful to the vision of the Founding Fathers, would bring the danger of the return of slavery. But, even before the 13th amendment, an originalist interpretation found slavery to be unconstitutional. I think every one is spoiled, look at them with their computers, high speed internet, cell phones, cars, and pot bellies. I went to Jamaica 2 months ago for my honeymoon and all though I had a great time and its beautiful, I seen what real poverty is. Thats when I realized how blessed we are as americans. Abraham Lincoln who was a "Republican" part of the GOP, wrote the emancipation proclamation to free the slaves during his time in office. McCain is part of that same party. On the other hand she's endorsing a candidate from the Democrat party. The same party that Robert Byrd is part of. The first constituiton rights was to end slavery. But then there was a act between the northern and southern, northerners back then wanted no slavery and the blacks to have freedom, right, southerners wanted slavery. so have john mccain are president going to change back to slavery, he just says he was to piece by piece put it back togther to make it a working contitution again.
