  • Amazing.

  • I absolutely love how he shits on the cameraman

  • A true hero.

  • HUNTER'S WORDS: '' I'VE NEVER SEEN SEEN SUCH A LAME EQUIPMENT'' HAHA

  • in my hometown i hear about so called legends, but this guy did go out on a limb, thats what geniuses usually do,they go out on a limb, though i don't really condone suicide, his was spectacular.long live this guys memory.

  • HST was pure, undiluted genius. Sad to hear him talking about getting in the way as a person and having to kill something off.

  • He sounds just like that guy Tom Green bought home to meet his parents.

  • so high

  • I think Bill Murray`s interpretation of Hunter S. Thompson in "Where the Buffalo Roam" should not be neglected. 18years before Johnny Depp.

  • Although the comparisons are tiresome, Depp's observations about how he speaks in that quick-burst way are bang on. It's also blatantly obvious from about 2:13 when he puts the shades on, that Dale Gribble from "King of The Hill" is based on him.

  • we're in Bat country

  • @hallnoats4ever So fucking true, he did a amazing job at potraiting Hunter :D

I dont think any actory could do the same thing Johnny did.

  • the good dr is a StRaNGE BUT WONDerful creature

  • hunter is a fucking mystery to me but he is fucking awesome. he is the perfect description of a mad scientist/genius.

  • "That's a very profoundly personal commentary on your perception"

    What a kick ass quote

  • I don't know why this man was never elected as president. Gonzo would have supported Ron Paul in 2012 though...

  • @Socomarine86 I highly doubt it, Thompson was a socialist. He would like Pauls personal freedom platforms, but I'd say Pauls stance on Social programs would turn him away like most other people.

  • @Blackfriday420 Very true. But I'd say Dr. Thompson would support him just because Dr. Paul stands head and shoulders above the competition. I agree with Ron Paul on alot of issues and have always considered myself a libertarian. We definitely don't need anymore wars. I respect your opinion and the fact that you're into HST is awesome. My philosophy teacher introduced me to him 8 years ago and I've been obsessed with him ever since. Even got the double thumb tattoo done the other day haha.

"Excuse me, every once in a while I forget who I'm talking to."

*looks directly at the camera at the people he knew he was talking to*

    (us)

    RIP Mr. Thompson

  • "I´m always bitchy. No fun for anyone. 67. You are getting greedy. Act your old age. Relax. This won´t hurt."

  • fucking lunatic

  • watch?v=S0WkfP_zfs0 THIS IS AN ARTICLE ABOUT HUNTER S THOMPSON id like for you to read it, and imagine yourself as one of the characters in it

  • hes like very scattered but very insightful. and like a super hero with tourettes.

  • The tag says crazy, I think that's some bullshit.

  • I have never understood how the interviewer offended Hunter in this clip.

  • Some kind of high powered mutant never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

  • "That's twice...in two minutes..."

    LOL, Hunter was hiliarious.

  • Is it me or does he look like Dave Matthews???

  • @skianddie HAHAHA YESSSSSS

  • fereners. I've never seen such lame equipment.

  • fereners

  • RIP Hunter we miss you

  • "sorry...every once in a while i forget who i'm talking to"

  • above comment is so bang on

  • Awesome

  • read my comment and sorry for the spelling errors.. been drinking for the past 14 hours... no excuse compared to the legendary thompson lol (having read the rum diaries as well).

  • in fear and loathing i read abotu thompson or duke... staying up for days after ingesting a all sorts of drugs... i have to stay up for 24 hours and having difficultiesi (a pussy i know).

so i am watching thompson interviews for inspiration lol.

  • This man embodies awesomeness

  • The reporter should have given him a huge hug, that was in Thompsons eyes.

  • Is this the clip where he pulls the bullet out of his pocket and takes a big snort ?

  • @ComradeLeonTrotsky before they start filming im pretty sure he does a rail of that black and while striped thing

  • i did acid with this guy

  • I just stumbled on this video and I didn't recognize the name. Didn't take long to realize who he was, and now I suddenly have respect for Johnny Depp as an actor.

  • He's a simple genius.

  • he was killed because he tried to expose the government sponsered pedophile ring..

  • im named for mr thompson

  • Blew his brains out cuz he was... just ready. His ashes were shot out of a cannon at his funeral. Beautiful.

  • @TheBrindleBoxer 67 years old, 17 years too late according to him.

  • Extremely Minkish!

  • BUY THE TICKET, HUH...TAKE THE RIDE

  • The modern Mark Twain.

  • @anothercountyheard Only with more Drugs :P

  • Back in '90 I was cruising by U of L when I saw the good Dr. walking the campus. I slowed down and gawked at him and he glared at me menacingly.... To this day I wonder what would have happened if I pulled over and yelled "Dr. Duke, get in!!! They're after us!!!!" I probably would have been maced.....

  • "Secret Service had no idea who I was...they thought I was

    an astronaut." Ho-Ho.

  • "speaking very personally...." "why risk that again?"

  • So...it was a persona?

Wow, he stayed in character every time I've ever seen him for 20 years then.

What dedication! Or was the 'character' so close to reality it bled into it?

I've never thought of HST as anything other than the wild, shit talking, brilliant journalist presented in his books and interviews ... so this is a new angle for me.

  • @HailSagan4Realz when you do as many drugs as he did, personas tend to meld.

  • Comment removed

  • @kingcole55 The point is he had various 'personas' to meld. Most people don't.

Most people aren't acting for the cameras. Maybe he wasn't either and was just talking out his ass this time.

Anyways, it's an interesting idea. And if he was 'faking' or 'hamming it up' it certainly worked for him. Johnny Derp can attest to that. What cheekbones!! But, you know like man, whatever. Just let the good times roll, dude.

  • What is sure to be what punk was to rock, listen to my song Lord.of.the.Flies, it is the same thing to rap music.

  • jesus. foreigners. OMG

  • If I had the chance to go back in time and meet someone... It would be him. RIP Thompson.

  • He's Best!

  • True Grit

  • Priceless! Cheers to you Hunter and thanks for all of the madness and influence! :)

  • this dude got stoned right?

  • @spudsisnumber1 hah weed, coke, mescaline, lsd, liquid ether, alcoholic and many more some odd drugs

  • @b16a2eghatch My hero ;)

  • Does anyone know the date of this interview?

  • @maccermacnab 1978

  • @LouisGalore thank you

    so he's 41 in this...

  • Happy 74th Birthday, Hunter! We miss you very much.

  • "If you're going to be crazy, you have to get paid for it or else you're going to be locked up."

  • @rojomonkey after seeing this...Johnny Depp is the best actor in the world

  • @hallnoats4ever bill murray in "where the buffalo roam" nails it even harder.

  • @silveradoboy91 I agree with you. Murrays performance is terrible underrated.

  • Vote Peyote Party in 2012. Mojo Nixon for president. When asked his opinion about religion Albert D. Xavier replied, " Just get me some Peyote and a Hang-glider dammit."

  • The useless banterings of a rhetorician hard at work, or valuable assets to a society that begs for wordsmithing? What, indeed, do we believe to be the true definition of the American Dream? Perhaps I have the answers, perhaps not. Either way, this topic is opened for discussion in my new video.

  • The thing is, Hunter as a doctor of journalism was always going to be critical of any reporters or journalists that were put in front of him.... You have to feel for anyone that had to interview Hunter. Always but always gonna be out of their depth.

  • This interviewer sucks and you can tell HST is getting pretty pissed off by 1:40. I'm surprised he didn't lose his temper.

  • Man, this guy...

  • Me and Hunter, sitting back, smoking a fat blunt, talking about our hate of right wing politics, Richard Nixon, and discussing Beatnik literature. If only....

  • @FeRnAnDo939393 open your third eye and you'll see he's still alive within us all.

  • @FeRnAnDo939393 you sound like a lame.

  • @RSXSmoke Bull fighter arena.

  • @ZeroSixtyFive he's a F***ing Genius.

  • Dr. Gonzo...Oh Dr. Gonzo....their paging you at the methadone clinic

  • I would lick this guys anus, it would hopefully get me high

  • I would lick this guys anus

  • Looks h s t vissuon

  • they shoulda got someone who "gets" hunter to interview him...not some straight laced idiot....RIP HUNTER....

  • You took to much man you took to much to much!

  • @NiggaWiddaAttitude It's the way he wanted to, man.

  • @Aarixan yup, hunter was and still is an icon to all of us:)

  • @NiggaWiddaAttitude

    lol, love that phrase.

  • I find it kind of funny that Hunter Thompson and George Carlin were both kicked out of the US Air Force...at least no one can say they didn't serve their countries...they have every right to defile and expose it

  • Was it true that he maced the waiters in his Kentucky Derby story?

  • he spoke aloud bout alot importent topics in america that spoke deep

  • man i keep replaying the ending. creating a new identity and to kill off one life to start another. it's trippy hearing him say that and then many years later he'd kill himself.

  • What about the glands?

  • @Cyproduction lol yup

  • He sounds like Buffalo Bill from Silence of the Lambs, Ted Levine forever baby!!!!

  • “I may have to kill off one life and start another one.” That’s exactly what he did on February 20, 2005; he let the legend live on…RIP HST

  • nostalgia critic made me look this guy up XD

  • ♥_♥

  • "If I were you ,I would flee." LOL. Some may say this is abusive and unstable but its really just frusteration with dealing with someones lack of verbal comprehension and discernment. I can relate and I know, although there are few, others can as well. This is not about madness its about Paradigms. You spell it out but they are not even trying to understand. They are to busy tripping on who they THINK YOU ARE based on an image CREATED.Thats why politicians tend to insult our intelligence.Desert

  • @SCORNDOGGMELACH pretty deep there, trip talk?

  • @featofmind1017 Nothing to do with drugs. Not that this is what you meant. And if it is about drugs what does that say? It says some human beings seem to think they need acid or mesculine or something to just understand and use thier brain. Then what does THAT mean? It means that it is suggested that the average straight person is walking around in a thoughtless stupor, most of the time. Sometimes I think Hunter used just to cope with the unreality of his idiot public. LOL. Know what I mean?

  • @SCORNDOGGMELACH well tripping actually makes your mind work in a diferent way...uses parts of it normally unused. thats why people have "flashbacks" they aren't flashbacks, it's your mind remembering what it's like to trip

  • This is wild. If we blame the reporter we must blame ourselves as well. Hunter expresses his disdain for the image of Duke being too personally associated with the real Hunter T. yet the reporter doesnt catch his drift. Look, the truth is if the people claim that Hunter is the master of a sly wit then they MUST NEEDS BE, of sly wit as well, to understand what he is saying. If not, they will continue to get on the silly, hes so crazy" bandwagon that Hunter resented. Clear as mud?

  • "Your out again? God damnit....." lol

  • Thompson was a great journalist, writer, intellect, but I bet if you'd follow him around like a groupie, he would hate you for it.

  • I think live Aerosmith had the best solution to the Reptile problem. And Im sorry we didn't go ahead with it.He said we would go 2 several of these farms that supply the, like the San Diego Zoo,and we get some alligators, some huge beasts and drug them up with Qaaludes, take the alligators in there, prop em up on the bar, nail their paws to the bar wait for the to come alive you know, for the qualudes 2 wear off, nail their feet to the floor, and that would be an outrage.

  • "They thought I was an astronaut..."

  • fuck, i miss this man.

  • Hunter Thompson is my political hero.

  • He seems shy

  • @mcdstuff so the story of the story is true.

  • Lol what a great man. =] Seeking the universe through his mind.

  • I dont think there really was a point, because in the end he stood for nothing and achieved nothing but his own early death. Dont get me wrong, Im anti-establishment and the norm and so on, and I really tried to find something to like about him from the movie, but all I saw was a goof ball who fooled people into believing in his tortured genius including himself and became little more than a living cartoon. And Im not against the guy, or what he's done, thats just what I get from the movie.

  • @BilliStatus " but all I saw was a goof ball who fooled people into believing in his tortured genius including himself" I have to highly agree with that. I'm a huge bill hicks and George carlin fan and a few friends told me about this guy and I watched Gonzo twice and watched interviews and such and I just don't get it. I don't see anything special but hey if people can take something positive from him then I guess thats a good thing !!

  • @JG129

Read his goddamn books and stop watching the mother fucking documentaries and the fucking interviews because they are never going to live up to the honesty of his novels. Read HST's novels goddammit! THAT is where you come to understand how his brain worked! Not by watching a goddamn documentary or an interview or two.

READ THE FUCKING NOVELS BEFORE YOU THINK YOU KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT HST

  • @BilliStatus

Do you know anything about the 4th amendment?

Do you know anything about Lisl Auman?

HST actually stood for very important ideals. I struggle to see how you'd not know that if you did adequate research about the man before you decided to come up with your blatantly inadequate conclusion.

Finally I think HST would agree with you that there is nothing to like about a goof ball tortured genius living inside an ironic cartoon. That is the image forced upon HST. He wanted to escape

  • @R0WMaC

Read my post again my main man. I clearly stated that it was what I got from watching the movie. I didnt bother to research the man because his charachter in the movie didnt inspire me to. Im not hating on the guy, I just dont see the appeal.... opinions and assholes I guess...

  • @BilliStatus

"I'm not hating on the guy"

"because in the end he stood for nothing and achieved nothing but his own early death."

That is pretty blatant ignorance and I'm annoyed by it.

  • @R0WMaC

Do lot of drugs, write some crap, and kill yourself.......... awesome.

  • @IntreesLive

Why do you think he wrote crap :o?

What of his written work have you read?

  • @IntreesLive - We would all be smarter if you never wrote anything.

  • Just watched 'Gonzo' and I couldnt find anything to like about this dude... Not hating just stating...

  • @BilliStatus ...thats the whole point.... hes started a whole subculture... he wasnt and isnt the most popular guy , especially for what he did and what he wrote. An anti-hero of his time i guess you can say. A lot of people probably think hes a useless sarcastic goof but on the other hand, there are many who think hes a genious, and thats the irony of who he was and what and who he defined as a "winner"

  • @BilliStatus same here. I enjoyed some of his books, but as a person . . .

  • The single best interview clip ever. Hat and rag.

  • I'm glad Hunter kept copies of all his letters because his letters are evidence of some of his best writing in my humble opinion.

  • i just realized how perfect of a job johnny depp did in playing raoul duke. oh, and does anybody else think that the lats few statements he makes in this interview foreshadowed his suicide?

  • @alexpucciarella he always said he was gunna commit suicide with a gun, it was not exactly a shock how it happenned but when it happened was.

  • i just realized how perfect of a job johnny depp did in playing raoul duke

  • are his side burns different lengths?

  • Look. No bullshit. my buddy, Thomas Muldoon, has written up a bang-up novel called SMOKING in BATHROOMS. Any fan of HST's will love it. Just give it a chance and check out the product description on Amazon. You'll love it. Muldoon is out there, man!

  • LEGEND!!! does anyone know who the first guy interviewing Hunter is?

  • 3:08

  • @pinnacleOFjustice

yeah, who is that? I froze the picture, but he doesnt like formiliar to me.

  • @eddohan

Leary? I paused and looked but it's hard to tell

  • @pureminney22 could be Ralph Steadman

  • @pureminney22

    It's Ralph Steadman.

  • @pinnacleOFjustice I think that's Steadman ...

  • @Motorskallen - Are you a liberal Euro hippie?

  • Inspiring guy. He's the one who inspired me to turn into journalism.

  • @drgonzo767 - Legalize all drugs? When you get older and have kids you will change your opinion on that subject.

  • @Snotra I am older, and have a daughter.People have a right to screw up their lives as far as I am concerned. I teach my kid right from wrong and that is all people can do, our children will make their choices one day...we just hope we did a good job. It's not like drugs are not available with them being illegal, hell it might be EASIER to get them now than if they were legal, due to the profit margin of the black market. But none of that changes my views on personal liberty and responsibility.

  • @drgonzo767 weed is right for the record

  • @Snotra

    Not legalize but decriminalize.

  • @Snotra About one out of ten get kids. Are nine out of ten suffer because of one little brat?

  • @glowfood - In a global recession such as the one we are in the midst of, should we tighten our belts and support those who are...... well, "conservative", or those that give "liberally" ?

  • @iceflame0 record player?

  • You can turn your back on a person, but never turn your back on a drug, especially when its waving a razor sharp hunting knife in your eye.

    Hunter S. Thompson

  • @iceflame0 That was a doorknob, into another dimension.

  • @drgonzo767 - I don't think it's a coincidence that libertarian and liberal sound alike, for they share some kooky qualities. Government involvement in peoples lives truly was a concern of Thompson, but not so much of a Taxation issue, or federal dollars going to social needs, he had it in for authority. His "whatever floats your boat" philosophy was an example of his capricious spirit, he was very much in line with the liberal mentality, one who seeks out a licentious existence.

  • @Snotra you cant steriotype. hes one person and this interview isnt about his views on those topics . not about the ones ur talking about im sure he has good oppions on those to and im completely libertarian i belive in low tarrifs, taxing the rich proportionaly to there wages as anyone else should, and at the moment isolation from the the bs foreign affairs. we have NO money actualy were trillions in debt lets work our shit out first.

  • @Snotra Liberalism has many strange bedfellows. I've read almost all of his writings, including most of his personal papers, and he definitely leaned libertarian.

  • He was hot.

  • Im drinking flying dog old scratch

    thanks for the beer Hunter

"Good people drink good beer" Hunter S. Thompson

  • head his words people for here stands a greet man befor u (when he can stand) RIP MAN RIP may the greet 44 take u to hevan man to heven and if god wont ket u in tell him dr gonzo sent u...
