  • thumbs up if you've worked a job making cold calls and had one of these moments.

  • Take the "ng" from "song", the "ou" from "soup", and "win". That's the closest English approximation I can think of. My friend always pronounces his last name "NEW-yen" though. If you're lazy I guess you can just say "win".

  • lol i knew a dude in high school whose first and last names were Nguyen and teachers would just butcher it on the first day

  • this video is pretty much a fail, er the title i mean

so the user thinks family guy mispronounced nguyen... however it was the intention of showing that brian couldn't pronounce it... thus form that it was on purpose which the user seem to misunderstood so the user does in fact fail hard and will try to reestablish his failure by replying something stupid to this comment

  • @aplayaz2000 your mom failed by giving birth to such an idiot....

  • @nheowie AH there the comment is! and that only took like 5 minutes

    the idiots prevail

  • @Quack4Zac You pronounce it like nu-win right?

  • It's pronounced "When".

  • Whoever came up with the english spelling for the name Nguyen must have been really high. Those letters don't sound like that at all.

  • I'm Vietnamese and they fcked up my name. its 'Win'

  • @coolazn81 lol it's funny when even the other viets say it incorrectly :|

  • @coolazn81 or wen :D

  • i hope you don't take offense, cuz none is intended, but i have been in phone sales for over 20 years, and of all the confusing, hard to pronounce names, that has to be the most confounding for americans to figure out! it is BRUTAL!! it changed my life when i learned to pronounce it!, but i still hear fellow phone workers AGONIZE over it on a daily basis. while not intended to be offensive, there is a certain truth to that clip!

  • @ramonaledge Im vietnamese and while my last name is not nguyen i do have some family that is. I see people butcher it all the time and quite frankly i think it's hilarious. Think of it this way, pretty much every letter is silent, then you say "win." bam you're speaking vietnamese.

  • the N is silent. its prounounced Goo-yen

hahaha I'm just joking. that's what I say to people all the time when they can't say it.

  • so is it "win" or "when" or "new-win" or "wynn" or? I really want to know how to pronounce it. I have clients with that surname and I know it is kind of rude not know how to pronounce their name when i call them.

  • @chisinchai

It's pronounced "new-win" with emphasis on "win".

  • @chisinchai Vietnamese is a tonal language, so you won't ever get it completely right without learning to read with the diacritics. But you can get it as close as it can get without the diacritics by starting with the "ng" sound from words like "sing" and then finish it off with "win."

  • I love these cartoons

  • Are you serious?? They did that on purpose....

  • My parents just straight gave up trying to teach everyone how to say it so they're just like "yeah, my name's ____ newyen" when they speak to non-viets lol
