John Eldredge leart eastern mysticism and has trained in thearter he is the consummate false teacher laeding many astray·His ideas dont come from the bible."In modern shamanism, geese are also associated with communication, the ability to express oneself, especially through the use of stories. Its said that the goose as a totem signifies the importance of the childhood belief in stories and legendary places. The stories people liked most as a child might give insight in the patterns in their lives"
John Eldredge brings us New Age philosophy packaged with Christian lingo. Read "Conversations with God" to learn the basics of deifying emotions. This is an ego stroke to insecure people like John trying to prove and re-prove masculinity, as if validation comes from sensationalism. He also reduces women to "beautiful" and "damsels in distress", lacking external validation too. If John does xyz to feel like a man, why doesn't he feel like a man anyways? Emotions the new face of masculinity?
Christians like you are the reason that christianity has become irrelevent and dead. All your churches speak about God. but you forget to really talk about God's love. because love is an true love is an abstract thing to you. why? because you don't live from your heart. If the heart is so bad, then why did God make it?
Why would you listen to a guy who can not figure out how to answer the phone on his call in show? (5:30) Do you think he is really prepared? Do you think he read more than the first 25-50 pages? He only quotes the introduction from what i remember and i doubt he read the rest where John explains a lot of his opening points.
I do not like his presentation that much, but I agree with most of things he has said. There is something wrong and dangerous in both putting men and women in such strange boxes (like warrior, heroine) and basing your views on secular understanding of those things. I loved the call from this gentelman who discovered there's no strenght within himself for all of it comes from God and dependence on him. And I also wish there were better books on how the Bible defines manhood and womanhood.
I agree. Go back and reread the book, because you're obviously not understanding what it was saying. And you don't have to be such a sarcastic jerk about everything. I can't believe that you preach or anything revolving around that sort of thing. Wow.
i wonder what this guy believes, because he's like a lot of guys who spend all their time dissing people for what they believe but never really express what they believe. i believe a lot of critics are cowards who don't have the balls to believe in something, which is why they go after people who have strong faith.
@trupela That's the problem with false leadership from false teachers like John Eldredge. Convinces you that if someone doesn't agree with him and speaks out about it, then their your enemy and not christian.
Oh wow this guy is completely lost, and sounds a little dishonest. I think the book says many things men have and haven't known for a while now in this country. I gave the book to a friend who was not a christian and he couldn't believe how much of it spoke to him. The whole not making women the adventure but apart of it thing blew him away.
Well, I'm getting out of this way of thinking. I don't read some Christian authors books anymore. I'm not saying the Christian life is easy, it's not, but God is a loving Father who is looking out for me. It doesn't mean that I'm entitled to a wife or some great adventure and John Eldridge doesn't beleive that either.
John Eldridge's book is great b/c it's practical application of scripture on being a man, a real man, in the Biblical sense.
I used to be very bitter and miserable [like the religious elite said I had to be in order to be pleasing to God] and I first read this book and thought it was just another form of the Health and Wealth Gospel, I believed that God loved me miserable and whatever it took to keep me that way He would do it and my spiritual influences affirmed this for me.
What is sad that Todd who calls himself a Christ follower, tears apart the body of Christ repeatedly. No wonder people want nothing to do with Christianity, it has so many mean and judgemental people in it. I pray that he would see how Christ really feels about him, he is seriously missing out :(
@nancymohr i agree. it's okay to disagree with someone about something, but you don't have to dismantle them totally just to prove your point. Hank Hanegraff is the same way.
Thanks for the discernment Todd. Eldridge's books are man adulating, open theistic, foolishness. Give me a bible any day and spare me the mythical fiction of Eldridge. Mighty warriors LOL

Todd Friel being contrary for the purpose of bashing Evangelicalism? What a shocker. Sometimes I listen to Friel and he makes a great deal of sense; other times I listen to him talk about subjects like this and realize how overreachingly wrong he is and how bitterly he comes across over such a positive, well-learned piece of writing such as Eldredge's book.
I think he is misinterpreting what the book is trying to say. The book isn't entirely human centered but the subject may make it sound like it. Eldredge wants us to be better men by being less emasculated and more in touch with our hearts.
Eldredge brings up the movies as a tool. Most men like movies like Braveheart because we want to be like that... why? Because we are wired that way.

The biggest lie of Wild at Heart is that John Eldredge not only misapplied scripture, he actually changed the verse!
Read Proverbs 20:5. Eldredge basis his whole philosophy on this verse which he quotes as:
"The heart of a man is like deep water..."
The verse actually says, "Counsel in the heart of man is like deep water..."
That right there should invalidate his entire book. Not to mention his openness theology, low view of God and high view of man, etc..

What a sad pathetic misrepresentation of John Eldridge's book...
Todd Friell is the biggest legalist religion loving prideful foul mouth I have ever heard.
I see no biblicla humbleness in the way he talks or acts.
He could actually learn a lot from Eldridge!
John's book is not about "wild" as in "Wild Sin" but how God awakens our heart (regeneration) and makes it alive to Christ, stronger through him!

Keep on doing what you are doing Mr Eldredge! You've helped me to get my heart back!
I wait for you in the Carpatians Mountains in Europe, for a fly-fishing trip. Or in heaven...maybe our Beloved Lord will come too.
What say you? ;)

I have to agree. I used to like this book but then i got saved and found out it is not about us but about God.
This book is full of worldly wisdom and it is fully human centred.
