  • Awesome! My 5-year-old daughter Lisa loves both this and the other series Duvall produced (Tall Tales & Legends). I sheepishly have to admit, i kinda like 'em too, but only because of the famous actors in them. Christopher Reeve from "Noises Off", wow!

  • This takes me back. My favorite one was always Hansel and Gretel.

  • omg i had all these as a kid in the 80s.

  • malcolm mcdowell as the wolf in little red riding hood?! no freaking way!!

  • This show was produced by Fred Fuchs...fun times.

  • omg malcolm mcdowell :D!!

  • "I'm almost certain it has something to do with the lips."

    LOL My God, how awkward.

  • They forgot to mention Rip Van Winkle starring Harry Dean Stanton.

  • @Jezzikah287 Perhaps that episode didn't air yet when the tapes came out

  • WOW, this preview IS my childhood -- I could OVERDOSE ON NOSTALGIA. Back then Playhouse Video, on BETA mind you, was the company that granted me a "very special wish."

  • wow!! OMG classic

  • Their beast from Beauty and the beast looks very similar to the French version

  • @historyfreakfroman That episode is pretty much a shot-for-shot remake. I can't say it was quite as good as the original, but it still had some heart to it and it didn't include the horrible ending the original had.

  • Who's the narrator?

  • Gosh I really miss this!! I need t buy the whole DVD Collection soon but its expensive! :( I love seeing the actors/actresses in the Faerie Tale Theatre LOVE IT!

  • Rip Van Winke was not out when this preview came out.

  • I sat through this and felt like I was 5 again. Thumbs up if this makes you feel like a kid again!

  • Can you imagine what it would be like if we were to try 2 recreate classics like this today? Undoubtedly, the audience 4 it would be MUCH lessened; the quaintness of such tales must seem very passe in the eyes of today's ultra-modern, somewhat jaded youth. But that's the very REASON we should try to remake them! So that kids of ALL ages can be ingratiated into the magic of the past &carry it forward.

Big name stars as well as fresh young faces doing this together... do YOU think it can work?

  • There;'s work to be done . . .brothhhaaa

  • Peter Weller and Roy Dotrice together? WOW! I gotta get my hands on that one!

  • mick jaggers a trip in this

  • I really cant believe any of these clips have not made it to Late NIght!! like having jeff goldblum as a guest and conan NOT showing this is very surprising !

  • I'm 34. I used to wacth this and "Mr. Bill" on HBO...or was it Showtime...religiously. I was 6 or 7. I remember hiding behind the couch at night so I could see naked boobies too! Just to be clear, I was referring to the above mentioned cable networks.

  • Haha! I grew up with this series!

Explains my life-long love for fairy tales.

  • they showed these to us all the time back in elementary school. im 25 now and i still remember like it was yesterday. When i saw the shining I remember thinking "that lady... her name and face are so familiar... where did I see her before...."

  • malcom mcdowell? i couldn't tell it was him, and wasn't he with mary steenburgen? woah

  • When I was little my mom would rent these for us at blockbuster. I love Shelley Duvall.

  • god i remember seeing this on video

  • I prefer the Playhouse Video trailer of Faerie Tale Theatre over the CBS/Fox one.

  • I bought the complete series on Ebay for about $30 a few years ago. I used to borrow the VHS of Little Mermaid and Cinderella at least once a month from the library. So many happy memories!

  • where can i get these?

  • Jeff Goldblum as the Big Bad Wolf?! Brain exploding in 3....2....1....Ka-Pow!

  • whoa this brings back memories.

  • I Love watching these Faerie Tale Theatre when I was a kid.

  • Mary Steenburgen from Back to the future part 3?

  • To those who read this comment can anyone please tell me who the announcer is in this video, I heard his voice before from the muppet video series preview at the end of the video and on "What's up Doc: A Salute to Bugs Bunny". Thanks in advance, I appreciate it,

  • My goodness, I loved these as a kid. Looking back they don't seem as good.

  • LMAO 3:06!!!!!

  • anyone know where i can buy it on vhs or dvd !

this reminds me my child ! =D

  • Yes! They are available on both formats. Check eBay and Amazon. They released them several years ago, and then again on DVD in Sept. 2008 (probably better quality/extras?)

  • Aww... I wished they would release these on DVD. I grew up renting some of these FTT series classics. You can never be too old to love fairy tales.

  • They are on DVD! I just found out the other day and I'm really excited! They're selling them on ebay. You can either buy them seperately or all in one collection but however you get them, they're awesome!

  • Great! I'll have to look into that! Thank you so much for your info! :)

  • LOVED these as a kid! STILL LOVE THEM! =D ♥

  • OMG! Thanks so much for posting this! I remember that little preview, except I grew up with the Playhouse Video version.

Good news, everyone! The entire "Fearie Tale Theatre" collection has been re-released on DVD. I found my copy at Sam's Club, though someone else said they found it at Costco. And I wanna say I saw a copy up at Wal-Mart as well, but I can't remember.

  • Hmm.. which tale is that at the very end with the man and woman kissing?

  • Unless I'm much mistaken, it's "The Little Mermaid" with Treat Williams and Pam Dawber.

  • I have the BEST memories of this show! I grew up watching it on the old Disney Channel (remember when they aired the re-runs back in the 90s?) and renting them from Blockbuster back in the good ol' days. What a terrific show!

  • Man I haven't seen that in forever, I miss it!! lol, and I can't find it to buy anywhere *pouts*.

  • You can get it at a library but it is a 3 day loan.

  • Always loved this preview. Probably my all-time favourite show. Yes, it only has 26 episodes (27 if you include GREATEST MOMENTS), but I never grow tired of these stories, these stars, these memories. Shelley Duvall needs to take a bow wherever she is for creating such a fantastic series!
