Awesome! My 5-year-old daughter Lisa loves both this and the other series Duvall produced (Tall Tales & Legends). I sheepishly have to admit, i kinda like 'em too, but only because of the famous actors in them. Christopher Reeve from "Noises Off", wow!
WOW, this preview IS my childhood -- I could OVERDOSE ON NOSTALGIA. Back then Playhouse Video, on BETA mind you, was the company that granted me a "very special wish."
@historyfreakfroman That episode is pretty much a shot-for-shot remake. I can't say it was quite as good as the original, but it still had some heart to it and it didn't include the horrible ending the original had.
Gosh I really miss this!! I need t buy the whole DVD Collection soon but its expensive! :( I love seeing the actors/actresses in the Faerie Tale Theatre LOVE IT!
Can you imagine what it would be like if we were to try 2 recreate classics like this today? Undoubtedly, the audience 4 it would be MUCH lessened; the quaintness of such tales must seem very passe in the eyes of today's ultra-modern, somewhat jaded youth. But that's the very REASON we should try to remake them! So that kids of ALL ages can be ingratiated into the magic of the past &carry it forward.
Big name stars as well as fresh young faces doing this together... do YOU think it can work?
I really cant believe any of these clips have not made it to Late NIght!! like having jeff goldblum as a guest and conan NOT showing this is very surprising !
I'm 34. I used to wacth this and "Mr. Bill" on HBO...or was it Showtime...religiously. I was 6 or 7. I remember hiding behind the couch at night so I could see naked boobies too! Just to be clear, I was referring to the above mentioned cable networks.
they showed these to us all the time back in elementary school. im 25 now and i still remember like it was yesterday. When i saw the shining I remember thinking "that lady... her name and face are so familiar... where did I see her before...."
I bought the complete series on Ebay for about $30 a few years ago. I used to borrow the VHS of Little Mermaid and Cinderella at least once a month from the library. So many happy memories!
To those who read this comment can anyone please tell me who the announcer is in this video, I heard his voice before from the muppet video series preview at the end of the video and on "What's up Doc: A Salute to Bugs Bunny". Thanks in advance, I appreciate it,
i saw this so many times when i was little, and this always played at the beginning of each episode, so i can actually say this whole intro by heart!!!!!!!!! it's scary :D
Yes! They are available on both formats. Check eBay and Amazon. They released them several years ago, and then again on DVD in Sept. 2008 (probably better quality/extras?)
They are on DVD! I just found out the other day and I'm really excited! They're selling them on ebay. You can either buy them seperately or all in one collection but however you get them, they're awesome!
OMG! Thanks so much for posting this! I remember that little preview, except I grew up with the Playhouse Video version.
Good news, everyone! The entire "Fearie Tale Theatre" collection has been re-released on DVD. I found my copy at Sam's Club, though someone else said they found it at Costco. And I wanna say I saw a copy up at Wal-Mart as well, but I can't remember.
Wow! I never thought I'd see this again. Renting these tapes from the library and watching them while growing up is one of my dearest memories and this preview was at the beginning of every one. Thanks for allowing me to relive part of my childhood.
I have the BEST memories of this show! I grew up watching it on the old Disney Channel (remember when they aired the re-runs back in the 90s?) and renting them from Blockbuster back in the good ol' days. What a terrific show!
this show brings back some good memories i got the whole collection on dvd awesome some eps were boring and unbearable to watch but the good ones like hansel and gretel, jack and the beanstalk, three little pigs..etc were favs.thanks for post!!
Always loved this preview. Probably my all-time favourite show. Yes, it only has 26 episodes (27 if you include GREATEST MOMENTS), but I never grow tired of these stories, these stars, these memories. Shelley Duvall needs to take a bow wherever she is for creating such a fantastic series!

Unless I'm much mistaken, it's "The Little Mermaid" with Treat Williams and Pam Dawber.
