I think they should have gotten a full orchestra and 'covered' the song, more so than enhance the build up with everything goin. and maybe get the strings to do the guitar bits :P
@ClusterFoxtrot Would this classify as classical? It's orchestral, yes, but I didn't think orchestral was synonymous with classical. Is it? I thought classical music referred to the "golden age" of music - Beethoven, Mozart, Bach, etc. Sorry, I'm not trying to be rude. I'm just trying to make sense of this; it's never been very clear to me.
@ZASCAtube Good question. "Spanish Sahara" is a place that you can go and leave all of your problems and worries, an imaginary place, not the real desert in Spain, according to Yannis that is the lead singer. Hope this helps.
@AdamBR thanks you very mach. In fact, I have a friend who visited Sahara and he said me that this place is magic, people are so friendly and the nights are awesome, is the one place were the starts and the moon is more near, brilliant and magic.
Sorry for my english, hugs from Spain (no the Sahara ^^).
@ZASCAtube According to Wikipedia, the Spanish Sahara is a territory in the Western Sahara that has been under dispute between its native populations, Morocco and Mauritania. It was one of the last remnants of the Spanish Empire, before they abandoned it under international pressure. Maybe Foals were using it as a bit of a metaphor for a sort of no-man's land.
@bachelorfox jajaja, thank you very much, I Know perfectly the story about this place, I studied it in the school, right now I think I understand what mean Spanish Sahara, as far as I know this place is magic, you can feel the stars in the night so nearly that you can touch it.
I hate to say this because I absolutely love both this song and orchestral music...but this version is not working for me. They clash because they are just too different in style and feel! They made a good effort to combine them, but putting electronic and orchestral together just diminishes the quality of both. Separate, they sound better in their own ways. That's just my opinion though.
@opoco123 I think it's a dog. I heard that this video clip is meant to be based on a true story. Apparently when Yannis was younger, he found a dog washed up on the beach or something.
Thats just what I read in a comment on another Youtube video.
they still should have it as the full length version, and the guitar solo should have the second guitar aswell, it cuts off before it comes in. i love it though.
just saw them yesterday, it was simply amazing love them and I touched Yannis he´s so nice and all of them leave it all in stage thou it was their first time in Mexico a lot of people loved them. Foals Forever
wow, i love this, foals take risks that normal bands would not, i mean songs like cassius of the old album are completely different, yet the fans still absaloutly love them, good one boys ;)
If you are going to bring in a orchestra I expect the song to exceed the original song by terms of length, not be shortened. Honestly this song could have been a killer 10 minute piece with the right orchestral composer, but oh wells.
I really like this song, but I'm missing something... where does the LCO come in? I MIGHT be hearing something different, but that could just be a placebo effect or because it was edited a lot shorter.
I'll upload a re-version of this with the intro added I think. I do like the strings added to the background though. Barely noticable over the original, but still GOOD.
Indulgent. Why bother the London Contemporary Orchestra for something they could have done on the keys without anyone noticing the difference. There are no arrangements here worth using a real orchestra, they didn't even bother remixing the original apart from cutting it in half, so it all sounds muddy. You can barely hear the strings anyway. They could have simply called it "New Edit". Adding the London Contemporary Orchestra is taking the piss really. Wasn't worth re-releasing!
@steevepatrick what the hell are you on about, you can definately feel a whole new thing with the orchestra there, just because its not a big melodic part it doesnt mean they should be here
Would've been cool if there were more countermelodies and stuff going on. I was expecting some horns to double that guitar 'solo' part. That could've worked.
The best thing about this song was the simplicity. It's now over thought and quite frankly dull. Get over Spanish Sahara! there are better songs on the album.
...I really don't get the point in this, why edit it down to half its original length and add some strings? The strings would have been a good addition if the length was stlil there, but they sound forced in such a small period of time. I suppose this was a ploy from the record label, no-one likes 7 minute singles in music-industry-land do they?
I still have to listen to it, but you should know that youtube really fucks up music quality, so if you cant hear the orchestra chances are its youtubes fault, not the recording..
I just want to snuggle up in his beard.

Brilliant. Such a touching song and with the addition of the orchestra proves that classical music is still as relevant and beautiful as ever.

quite good, adds a bit to the song, but they should have left in the intro plus there is some editing mid song to shorten it
