p53's name doesn't come from its molecular mass, it doesn't weigh 53 kDa. Its name comes from its migration behavior on polyacrylamide gels. It migrates as though its apparent molecular mass is 53 kDa due to 4 proline protruding from its polypeptide backbone. These proline subunits create drag as the protein migrates through the gel matrix, thereby causing p53 to migrate slower. p53's actual molecular weight is around 43.7 kDa : /
@sw1232 correct...but it is usual to use the apparent molecular mass that u get in the gel........its the most common way to get the mass in most labs ,it isn't perfectly accurate, but most researchers prefer to just say that the name is b/c of the mass....check out any research article and u'll find that....but great clarification...thanks
@staffanholmqvist Thank you for watching and commenting. Regarding p21, I double checked. p21 does inhibit cdk4 in g1 and, ur right, it also does inhibit cdk1 in M.
It actually inhibits cdk4+D more than it does inhibit cdk1+B, because it does the latter one in the absence of cdk2.
thanks for this, I am doing a presentation on this exactly this will be of tremendous help!

The presentation was fine, but that music is really irritating!!

Nice video. Must point out that p21 does not inhibit cdk4+D (g1) it inhibits cdk1+B (M).
