  • I wonder if Verdi really knew what he was doing writing Elena's arias. The cadenza at the end of "Arrigo! Ah, parli a un core" is a descinding scale of about two octaves and half, from high C6 to deep F3... and the whole "Mercè, dilette amiche" requires a tremendous agility to do all the fioriture and a range from E6 to A3; and all this must be done by a dramatic soprano... it's almost impossible to sing Elena well, and yet Callas did it. Then, I wonder also if she was really human being, now.

  • @3F93 Verdi had it with the sopranos! Just think of Abigaille’s role in “Nabucco”. I do agree with your comment.
