  • 0:26 Humanity pray for my balls

  • Dormant accumulations of flesh meticulously machined into obedient devices with all thoughts stained the color of electric, red brake-lights in heavy traffic. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

  • I was playing Minecraft, down in some cave full of redstone then this song comes on... fuck yeah...

  • @bacon70722 i know the feeling.

  • @bacon70722 hell yeah best comment ever

  • 1:11-1:56

    That rhythm omg.

  • Metal like this actually helps me study!! its like a white noise in the background that blocks out any random thoughts, and keeps me from getting distracted.

  • HUMANITY PEELED FROM OUR BOOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNEEEESSSSS

  • Syncopation, anyone? nahhhhhh

  • i have no clue why but this reminds me of really brutal soad

  • @Willissssssssss or Soad is a soft Meshuggah ...

  • Took me a couple listens to Meshuggah to really get the concept. Its really started to grow on me.

  • @Mossberg930 First time I heard Bleed, I said "Wow this is some lame repetitive shit" I listened to it a couple more times, listened to Catch 33 from beginning to end and now I'm a full blown 'Shuggah fan.

  • @BenjaminKuruga AMEN

  • @BenjaminKuruga Fuck you

  • @EUSL84 Hm?

  • i hate when people come on a meshuggah vid and people that probably have no music ability hear something that isnt as easy to comprehend and they say something like "omgz da polyrythms" or "o dat intro is like, 24/11" (THere is no such thing as an eleventh note.) im not trying to troll that just what i see, i dont know if this will get thumbs up or down

  • 4:54

  • listen to 2 meshuggah songs at once, let me know if you survive :)

  • @Meshuggaaaahhhhh oh my fucking god dude listen to this and pravus at the same time

  • @outlawformetal614 thanks lol, electric pravus starts to sound pretty awesome at 2:00 and on :)

  • ExcellDjent

  • Goddamn 3:27 kicks off the best Meshuggah lick...an offbeat 16th note riff over that 1 2 3 4 beat(4/4 time signature)..and it mathematically adds up to one of the sickest riffs Meshuggah ever put out there.

  • i came to my obzenses and bought this album.

  • i am obzessed with this album

  • With this album I find that generally all the best stuff is at the end of songs. For example 4:05 and on, especially the riff that starts at 4:55...honestly their best rhythmic riff ever.

  • @JLRemiel agreed, 3:03 of Lethargica is an INSANE groove

  • 3:30 is my favorite part.......I can't stop the head banging......

  • Oh and FYI, meshuggah claims to have a 4/4 basis to their songs, but catch 33 and Obzen do not completely follow this.

  • Most of Meshuggah songs are hyper and polymetric, not polyrythmic.

  • I could listen to the outro all day

  • 4 people cant headbang to this.

  • polyrhythm , i hate that word

sounds like nerds trying to be sophisticated

  • @krat876 Not really.

  • @filppilp2 i didn't ask for your opinion idiot

  • @krat876 lol

  • @krat876 Oh, but it is sophisticated. In fact, it's endlessly sophisticated. There is no limit to the complexity of polyrhythms. There IS, however, a limit to how far you can go and still make any amount of musical sense, and meshuggah pushes that limit.

  • @RenegadeSquirrels i know . .

i just said i hate the word , not the riffs

like every fuckin creature can go and say it and feel like he is some musician or something

  • @krat876 Well, that's true. But that can be said for any seemingly technical word. But hey, the people who actually understand what polywrythms are and how to use them can sit back and laugh at those who dont :D

  • @RenegadeSquirrels This whole album is on 4\4 you knew that ?

Here is a normal definition for you and all of this bunch of idiots

polyshit : notes that are played in order that will make them stay on 4\4 , or on the same measure

    without thinking about the bars

now shut the fuck up already

  • @krat876 polyrhythm.

  • With these guys, less is more. they arent trying to cram in a hail storm of double bass drumming. They also are not trying to fill in every space in the music with all sorts of over the top single note guitar gymnastics. I have to agree with whats been said. The newer releases are their best stuff

  • My 1st introduction to Meshuggah was when i bought a used copy of obzen several months ago. At 1st i could not figure out what was going on within the tunes. I thought a was hearing bass and synthesizers. When i learned that they were playing 8 strings, with single note riffs, it clicked with me and i went out and bought several of their cds. I love Nothing, Obzen and New Millenium Cyanide Christ off of chaossphere. They are advant-garde. These guys use space better than anyone in metal.

  • Is messing with my head..I can't let it go...hope to have not more stress at the end ..

  • Is messing with my head..I can't let it go...hope to have no more stress at the end ..

  • The last minute of this track is the most epic moment in metal history...and whoever says DEI is Meshuggah's best album has absolutely no clue and they should fuk off and go listen to Sepultura or Slayer. Meshuggah have improved with every album, meaning that DEI is one of their worst.

  • @locust7777 Absolutely not. They have changed with every album. Doesn't mean that they got "better". It's a matter of opinion, really.

  • First time listening to Meshuggah and I started with the song Obzen. What a great fucking song...These guys are, to put it mildly, insane.

  • I'VE MASTERED THIS SONG! GHOST NOTES AND ALL! >:] I CAN'T BE STOPPED!

  • @5diddo WINNING!

  • They think they're a good band just because they can play power chords... This must be the easiest kind of prog metal to write.

  • @HunterBernstein You're absolutely right! I much prefer your brilliantly written/performed/produced tracks to this "easy" stuff....Oh wait...

  • @WillHerndon I'm speaking for all the skilled prog metal bands who look bad, because of bands like this.

  • @HunterBernstein This is far more complicated than progressive metal, which btw I love. This is extreme metal, or avant-garde metal and named so for a reason. They're writing and performing just about the most complex metal in the world. Prog metal doesn't look bad because of Meshuggah because they're not prog metal. Idiot, research these things before posting stupid comments.

  • @ShiivaWilding Really? All I hear are a bunch of riffs with odd time signatures. No progressions, melodies, or anything to keep you interested or make you think. Just having an odd signature doesn't make it complex.

  • @HunterBernstein Melodies and harmonies don't feature in extreme metal... you're still looking at them as a progressive metal band, which they're not. Extreme metal and progressive metal are both very complex, but you don't get an in depth analysis in Music Theory Spectrum and praise from the big 4 for being as simple as you're making them out to be. I am assuming you're in a progressive metal band/play progressive metal?

  • @ShiivaWilding Im not in a band but I write progressive music on the computer, and can play the drumset. I didn't know the meaning of Extreme metal before, but now I understand after looking it up. I take back the first comment I said. That was more directed at bands like Job for a Cowboy (which isnt even prog), which I first assumed this was like. I actually listend to some more songs by Meshuggah and liked them. Sorry about being stubborn like that.

  • @HunterBernstein A lot of people say those who like death growl music have no musical sense. So I try to point out that terrible death metal bands just make good ones look bad by posting so on videos like this.

  • @ShiivaWilding agreed they are classified as extreme metal but extreme metal has become an umbrella classification for most non-traditional vocaled metal. DM, BM, and all the sub-catagories of those two, as well as a few other smaller classifications fit into the extreme metal macro-catagory. to clal Meshuggah simply extreme metal is rather broad. Jens' vocals are more DM than anything, the play style is pretty DM and avant-garde. i would call them experimental DM but that is a little broad too.

  • @omgpwnd I would call them Avant-Garde Metal, as (lets face it) they've done for metal what no one else has done before or after them. In fact... even that's too broad. They are awesome, 'nough said :D

  • 3:47 to 4:05 is awesome.

  • this shit is ridiculous!!!

  • Hell most Prog (I'm not sure what genre Meshuggah would come under, though it does kind of fall under Prog at times) takes multiple listens before you begin to understand/ like it.

There are very few Prog Metal bands that can come out with songs that immediately attract listeners on the first listen. Hence why it's not the most popular genre. With that being said, once it does grow on you it makes for some of the best listening out there. Whether it be Meshuggah, or Tool, or Opeth etc. etc.

  • It's like a brain massage, an eargasm. I could listen t o Messhugah forever, why do I feel this way?

  • it's all about 4:57

  • Troll (Tomas Haake): Listen to this and count it

    Me: CHALLENGE ACCEPTED

    *my rage grows*

    Me: WTF IS THIS

Tomas: u mad? its called a polyrhythm

    Me: FFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

    Never try to count Meshuggah.

  • @slowblood99 seven, but it took me a while to understand it :)

  • Comment removed

  • @slowblood99 Uhhhh what? ...They are called dotted notes. Meshuggah *usually* uses dotted 8ths, but others as well.

  • @slowblood99 you; bullshit bullshit bullshit

    me: you're fuckin weird

  • @slowblood99 ha just accept that in lines up in a (insert # here):8 time signature

  • @slowblood99 Hahahah. "My Rage Grows" WTF.

  • @slowblood99 This song makes my rage grow.....in my pants.

  • @slowblood99 You can count 4/4 on 90 % of all their songs ;)

  • @paddeification I think it's 4/4 on the crash symbol or something, but he's playing different signatures with the snare hits and the double bass drums

  • @Headbanger9000 yes, the rythm is always different, but the beat/step is always 4/4. that's what i love about meshuggah, they always use rythm-sequences not fitting the beat. :-)

  • @slowblood99 I DONT UNDERSTAND you cant count this shiiiiiiiiiit

  • @Ician100 You have to listen to it more than once i think. Its much more complex than it sounds when you first hear it.

  • @Ician100 The fuck's your problem?

Oh wait, you're the one who thinks Meshuggah 'sounds all the same'.

You're free to dislike them but to say they have 'No diversity' is just flat out wrong.

  • Props to the drummer for keeping 4:4 timing but with a totally whatever-the-heck-time-signature double bass.

  • @DiabloSVV12 each One Of His Limbs Are Playing A Different Time Sig.

  • @Ician100 This is more diverse than all other music. However I suggest you start with Destroy Erase Improve.

  • @dujl than all other music is an overstatement. don't ever forget about Tool

  • @CrashnBurn15 Yeah, yeah... Whatever. I shouldn't even respond to someone who can't spell "disappointed".

  • @dujl Why should listeners new to Meshuggah start with DEI? You arent the only one who has said that in the comments ive read..just curious. I started with Obzen lol Im now on Catch 33 and Chaosphere. Im working backwards here

  • @Tool78Maynard Because it's arguably their best release.

  • @dujl Ok thanks for the heads up man

  • @Tool78Maynard Im working backwards too. So far, So sick! \ m /

  • @Tool78Maynard LOL dude i did the same thing, I love how they just slowly evolved into Godzilla sounding orchestras

  • @NocturnalTerror lol yeah man..I just got home from the bahamas and I listened to nothing BUT these fuckers.. they are truly insane and I found myself smirking many times on my vacation at the gym..walking on the criuse ship etc. Ive come to love Dancers to a discordant system..that song is so epic its unreal

  • @Tool78Maynard Dude I know. It seems like their longer songs are intensely complex. Look at "I" lol that song is absolutely incredible. Did you read the 27 pages in Music Theory Spectrum on just the intro to Rational Gaze?

  • @NocturnalTerror No i did NOT! Where can I find it????? lol and Honestly..I havent listened to the entire "I" song lol just the insane intro..I know im lame haha Ive been listening to this band for about 3 months straight recently..I dont know all there is to know about this band but im definately willing to learn..Now..whats up with that 27 page article about Rational gaze? lol

  • @Tool78Maynard I worked backwards too - now heavily addicted to Chaosphere

  • @DillingerEscapeMan Three words man: Corridor of Chameleons. That song is MINT. The lyrical message is absolutely brilliant and Jens has more rhythm than 50 cent, jay-z and eminem COMBINED. lol True story

  • @Tool78Maynard I listen to that song a lot - love it. Jens' vocals are really interesting on Chaosphere, especially over the fast mental bits!

  • @DillingerEscapeMan agreed man but at times he is definately hard to follow. but in the same breath..he is a monster.

  • @Tool78Maynard yeah yeah - To be honest I almost always naturally focus on the other instruments in stead of Jens - This shit is fucking interesting as a drummer anyway

  • @DillingerEscapeMan agreed..Thomas is extremely talented..definately lookin forward to their new album coming out in about 3 months! (I hope anyway lol)

What kind of approach would you prefer? This style or something like Catch 33? Personally, I wouldnt mind seeing another Catch 33 like masterpeice.

  • @Tool78Maynard Three months might be optimistic ! Well there is already an interview with Marten hagstrom online about the new album saying it will be generally slower and groovier. I don't want to hear anything that sounds familiar at all or I shall be disappointed - I genuinely want this to be my new favourite album

  • @DillingerEscapeMan lol yeah man I totally agree! I love when bands produce DIFFERENT sounding albums and not the same as the previous. I can dig slower and groovier music by mehuggah..whenever the release is..ill be buying it that day! Definately pumped

  • @Tool78Maynard Because you get a better idea of the developement.

  • @dujl Agreed..any idea when the new album will be released? You seem to know a TON about Meshuggah lol

  • @Tool78Maynard I'm hoping for this christmas, but most likely we'll have to wait a few months more.

  • @dujl we shall see..personally im hoping Meshuggah and Tool release their cd's around the same time..Madness overload for damn sure.

  • wow

  • Fricking insane ! the F...hammer of Thorrrrr!!!!!!

  • 3:30 MAKES ME KILL CHILDREN

  • Damn. Hearing this band for the first time today, I would NEVER have guessed their band's age... OG? I think so.

  • The reason people will come back and keep commenting on the same Meshuggah video is because everytime they come back and listen it has the same chilling insane effect :D

  • This song is fucking awesome!!!

  • LMFAO ModernDayPaulRevere closed his account , don't fuck with true metal fans .

  • There should only be a Dislike button on Bieber videos

  • its all about evolving the art form, slayer never sold out but there music never evolved past the regin/south albums, but then listen to meshuggah 88'/89' then listen to them today complete evolution of heavy/aggressive music, slayer have peaked meshuggah are just warmimg up the tubes

  • Dear Youtube

    There is a Dislike button

    Pls fix that

  • @ModernDayPaulRevere How dare you for dissing those bands. They were the pioneers of metal!

  • kpop is disgusting

  • all people are ignorant actually.. meshuggah insn't influence by any band, they influence themselves, hence they created this style

  • This is where babies come from.

  • Shadows of flesh to maintain the system. Our own blood splashes as we kneel.

    Those are great lyrics.

  • Ugh.. i envy all of you that really enjoy this. I love the instruments of this band but the singer just gets in my face and ruins it for me...

    :(

  • @faen5863... jens vocals take the longest time to get into, but personally the greatest vocalist of any metal band... actually meshuggah is too heavy to be considered a type of metal. They are Element 115.

  • @faen5863: I love Jens Kidman. You just have to treat the vocals as another layer in the music. It all melds very well.

  • try Textures - storm warning, theyre an awesome band too!

  • meshuggah and TOOL should make a song and then destroy the world with it

  • The end makes me head bang...it makes me...

  • 4:56 respect

  • No shit. I rode an elevator last week in a Singapore Skyscraper with an orchestrated version of this Meshuggah masterpiece sans vocals.

  • the best way to headbang to messhuggah is to headbang whilst letting the rest of your body go limp.

  • as Nathan Explosion would say "this is so metal"

  • This is baby making music.

  • @walnutius bloody hell I hope not.

  • ahahahahaha KILL EVERYONE DON'T STOP ARGUING, LET THIS SONG FUEL OUR HATE, WAHAHAHAHAHA

  • VICTORY!!!

  • it is no longer metal but /\/\3t@!

  • this is the shit to listem to when urplaying oblivion and closing the main gate. OHHHH YAHHH

  • i read some comments b4 listening and now i think the riff at 3:30 was kinda exaggerated by those ppl.

  • @ih8luckypeople The real shit is at 3:47

  • I was walking in the street this week, listening to this song and at the 3:30 riff I stopped for a moment listened to the song and said to myself : '' What the fuck is that ? To unexperienced people this must sound so fucking absurd : Some guy yelling his lungs out along some kind of discordant, dissonnant über-dropped tuned guitars '' ! And then I laughed

  • Listen to their demos and their first album...basically sounds like Metallica or Slayer...except Fredrik obviously drops acid before his solo takes

  • this album ...is going on my xmas list !

  • HOLY SHIT POLYRHYTHMS

  • @ModernDayPaulRevere shut the hell up without those bands u wouldnt hav meshuggah

  • @poopsinhispans

actually everything had to happen exactly how it did for this outcome,

and metallica, slayer, megadeat, are not worthy of even looking at meshuggahs ass

  • @poopsinhispans It's ok, he didn't know what he was talking about.

  • @poopsinhispans

    Wise words!

  • @poopsinhispans Meshuggah started in 88 right?

  • @10thmaggot yea i think around then but they said they were really influenced by metallica and early thrash

  • @poopsinhispans nice meshugga rocks metallica sucks juicy balls but yes they were the kings of trash back then

  • @dante93nero Get drunk as hell and listen to some of the songs by Metallica, then you will love them.

  • @poopsinhispans lol ur right but its odd that metallica said that meshuggah was there influence a little,,or whatever both of em are fuckin epic

  • @10thmaggot they started in 1987

  • @10thmaggot 87

  • @poopsinhispans

That's like saying you wouldn't have antibiotics if it weren't for bacteria.

    Fuck those bands.

  • @ModernDayPaulRevere u have issues.

  • @ModernDayPaulRevere Wow dude your a fag and shouldnt be considered a metal head, dissing Slayer is the most unmetal thing u can do fuckbrain

  • @ModernDayPaulRevere i love meshuggah but poopsinhispans makes a very good point. those other bands are the foundation of what meshuggah is

  • @ModernDayPaulRevere seriously shut the fuck up.....its ignorant ppl like u tht start all this bullshit on youtube....stop criticizing other music as if it somehow makes u a "truer" metal fan

btw.....metallica, slayer and megadeth are inlfluences of all these bands.....Faggot

  • @TempestaDiFuoco10 Hey asshole, come to Connecticut and I'll drop your ass before you take a step. You got a problem now? You got a problem now, motherfucker? I'm tired of you shit talkers leaving comments on my comment. The truth that I speak hurts your feelings? Too bad. Fuck you!

  • @ModernDayPaulRevere Yeh im sure you will.......but until typing on a keyboard makes u tough... i guess youll just have to deal with small little confrontations like the rest of the world..............wait........U MUST BE A NIGGA.....yep thts it

  • @ModernDayPaulRevere looks like your feelings are hurt, buddy. you gonna cry now? lol shut up, youre not intimidating.

  • @ModernDayPaulRevere

  • @ModernDayPaulRevere DUMBASS THESE BANDS DECENDED FROM THRASH! THEYRE ALL COOL

  • @ModernDayPaulRevere

Without calling Slayer please, the rest i don't care.

  • @ModernDayPaulRevere fuck your mom

  • @ModernDayPaulRevere do you realize how douchey that makes you sound?

  • @ModernDayPaulRevere undereducated people are ignorant.

  • @ModernDayPaulRevere Slayer pwns you and plays any song at the same time so stfu

  • @ModernDayPaulRevere trollolol those bands pretty much formed our metal that we have today
