Hello, racism against dark complected Black women pre existed your genetic condition. It has nothing to do with you and people shouldn't take their anger out on you for that. However, this does not diminish the very difficult challenges that dark skinned women face. You might say, "get over it." but the fact is, who wants to be single? You expect dark skinned Black women to just accept the discrimination and be single? Also, being dark skinned is not the same as having a genetic disorder.
I'm assuming you haven't been constantly teased about your skin when you were little, "reminded" of how "ugly" you are, you'll never be pretty, etc etc. Get a fucking life. It's people like you who make the problems. Not "dark skinned woman with a chip on their shoulder".
Some people in various cultures view lighter skin as being better. And it's not always that easy for people to let hurt go and sadly it becomes anger. I won't say that you don't understand but I think the depth of understanding is different. It's the difference between a loved one dying of natural causes and a loved one murdered. Both losses are great and one could probably imagine the pain of the other but neither could truly know the pain of the other w/o having been in the exact situation.

I LOVE that you were honest enough to share you're story. I am a dark skinned woman and I would say that I am "stereotypically attractive." Pain is pain and people deal with pain differently. I admire your courage and strength. Some people can't just let it go. I'm sure there are people with your disorder that are not as strong as you are. I remember some girls telling me that i was accepted more by whites because of my skin tone. I was like wow, you guys are crazy ignorant. I generally dont like Humans as they usually can be so confrontational and rude. That was a comment I will never forget because my father is very very light with long black hair, my mom is dark brown skin color. But we never talked about crap like that in my family so it was like a slap in the face to hear it from those complaining girls.

@ambi101 I think a lot of women explain about something, either it their skin, hair, weight, boyfriend, etc. My female friends complain a lot about stuff like that and when i try to encourage them to love themselves, they still complain, so most of the time now, i just ignore them when they complain.

People with disorders and what not comprise of a small minority. people with darker skin make up the black majority. If you have a case where a majority of people are being marginalized and discriminated against for something that is not fixable something they can not control you then have problem.

But sometimes something will happen and people will try to remind you that "you're JUST a dark black girl nothing special" and they're probably just using you or an easy lay or whatever. And that hurts. So these kinds of thing make me cautious. This type of thing may be the reason for the so-called attitude I've heard people say black women have. It's just this thing that brown skinned and dark skinned black women go through sometimes, it really makes it hard sometimes to not feel different.
I agree with all you say ambi101. You make great points. I feel great most of the time about being a brown skinned woman. I mean, most men seem attracted to me. I don't always feel pretty. But I know I'm attractive. I get hit on a lot by men of many different races and have a black boyfriend. And can generally get the one I really want.

Hello, racism against dark complected Black women pre existed your genetic condition. It has nothing to do with you and people shouldn't take their anger out on you for that. However, this does not diminish the very difficult challenges that dark skinned women face. You might say, "get over it." but the fact is, who wants to be single? Some people in various cultures view lighter skin as being better. And it's not always that easy for people to let hurt go and sadly it becomes anger. I won't say that you don't understand but I think the depth of understanding is different. It's the difference between a loved one dying of natural causes and a loved one murdered. Both losses are great and one could probably imagine the pain of the other but neither could truly know the pain of the other w/o having been in the exact situation.

I LOVE that you were honest enough to share you're story. I am a dark skinned woman and I would say that I am "stereotypically attractive." Pain is pain and people deal with pain differently. I admire your courage and strength. Some people can't just let it go. I'm sure there are people with your disorder that are not as strong as you are. Yeah i agree the complaining is annoying, but you are trivializing an issue that exists here. People with disorders and what not comprise of a small minority. people with darker skin make up the black majority. If you have a case where a majority of people are being marginalized and discriminated against for something that is not fixable something they can not control you then have problem.
Moving on or ignoring the issue continues the cycle sweeping the mess under a rug instead of fixing it.

My mom is really fair skinned but is black while my dad is dark skinned and I am brown skinned. I cannot count the time that I have been told "why couldn't u be lighter like ur mother." But sometimes something will happen and people will try to remind you that "you're JUST a dark black girl nothing special" and they're probably just using you or an easy lay or whatever. And that hurts. So these kinds of thing make me cautious. This type of thing may be the reason for the so-called attitude I've heard people say black women have. It's just this thing that brown skinned and dark skinned black women go through sometimes, it really makes it hard sometimes to not feel different.

once that I did not know what it was like to have other people regard me with racist attitudes. I have received racist attitudes though. I have had people pass me over for being "white", for being male, and very often people have viewed me as unintellectual and bigotted, because I subscribe to the Christian faith. Ironically, if you label one group as politically incorrect, it becomes politically correct to treat them with bigotry.
