I do an egg bath first to get a good stick to the coating. I'll add a bit of Splenda, then serve with a drizzle of Vinegar for a sweet/sour taste.

Always fascinated by this recipe and southern cooking in general. Can't get green tomatoes where I am from (Hong Kong). Wonder if we could pull it off with regular red tomatoes? Looks really really yummy. Thanks for the treat!

Yeah, I love tomatoes. Paul Prudhomme's fried green tomatoes look good. He puts bacon in the batter. Yum.

Do fried green tomatoes taste more bitter than ripe ones? Or does the batter tone it down a bit? I have never had them.

Frying them makes them almost sweet tasting, the flour coating gives it a crisp bite and holds on to the salt and pepper and keeps the moisture in the tomato. One of the best things you will ever eat.
