  • And when you start your own band, name it after yourself in some way.

  • DON'T JOIN SOMEONE ELSE'S BAND. You're better than that. Start your own band.

  • first thing i thought was" does she play in a band?" i think that's way more appropriate than music school, i made the biggest improvements playing in bands. PLUS it's fun, no stress. get out of youtube and get on a stage :) ps congrats

  • I don't believe schooling is necessary in your case, obviously you have what it takes already, now you just need to find a way in, you are well on your here as far as getting yourself put there, getting your music heard and noticed is the most important part of going somewhere with it, so just keep up the good work and don't pass up any opportunities

  • Answer to Q1: Get yourself a personal teacher who can provide you with the tools you need to improve whatever it is that you want to get better at! ;)

Plus, you don't need to spend $60000/year... In Portugal, for example, you can become a really great musician in ESMAE, which costs around $1000/year! Google it! ;)

  • Response to Q2: How connected to EVERY musician in your area are you? Or are you a recluse like me, holled up in your home all day musing to the walls of your room. If you know everyone in your area, are unsatisfied with the talent or reliability and you feel inclined, go ahead and move. If you want it to be a one woman show, stay where you are, get a job and fund your own project. The job is key. The further you go into your own project the more expensive it will get. Trust me.

  • Response to Q1: Tons of Music Institute students graduate with proficency in theory and how to play like John Petrucci. Only problem is none (whom I have met) can write their own material. Music programs at universities are expensive and will have you spending days on end analyzing Mozart scores. It's more debt than employability. You can be intelligent/educated in any area just by reading a lot. You just need to crave and actively persue knowledge non-stop while fueling personal creativity

  • Dude! Get a couple fellas to play with you a make a band!! I would love to buy a CD from a band with you in it! Oh...

And All Shall Perish IS awesome!

  • Continued...

Your career will find you; maybe in a bigger city I'd guess, as you suggested. As someone else mentioned, lessons or a book to teach yourself will progress you all you need. Focussing on writing is an excellent idea. Now, enough of the crap; marry me.

  • Straight to the point. Why learn when you can 'do'. To elaborate: you'd be spending a shitload of money, enduring learning that is frankly nonessential to your particular craft/direction.

The most beneficial thing someone can get out of it is contacts in the music industry and the ability to easily found by those in the industry. Let's not beat around the bush here; you are a female guitarist with talent. You are a rarity and a novelty, no matter how much you don't want it to be the case. Your

  • i have a request. hourglass by llamb of god?

  • @Kudblythe3 Dude, she's slamming out Meshuggah and Animals as Leaders like it's nothing. Lamb of God is a step backwards.

  • @alphaenemy my honest opinion is lamb of god are on the same level. well maybe not on guitar. but drums and vocals same level.

  • @Kudblythe3 Vocals yes, drums, close, but Haake is better than Adler for a couple of reasons, most notably subtlety, ghost notes, and nuance. Actually, Kidman's only good at one thing vocally, and Blythe actually branches out a bit. I'd give the vocal edge to Blythe. Guitars, not even close. Thordendal is a wizard. Morton and Adler are fun to listen to sometimes, but neither of them are amazing, and I'm sure they'd agree about Thordendal. The difference between Meshuggah and LOG? Jazz.

  • @alphaenemy yes i agree. LOG is groove metal. with jazzy riffs. Thordenal is a rythmic genius. and the riffs in meshuggah along with the haake keeping up with the guitars is amazing.

  • Go to school for one year; you'll know then. Trust me.

Also, unless you major in a particular style, you will come out of it a pretentious jazz loving drone.

  • Awaken The Dreamers was better. Chris Storey = God. And your originals kick some major ass.

  • Yay, you like All Shall Perish! Stoked for your cover of their songs now!

  • you should definitely be more heavily considering music school. you don't necessarily HAVE to go to be a successful musician. but it will greatly improve you're playing ability( you're pretty impressive already, but you can always learn) and you'll also make connections in the music scene through your teachers and peers which will help you throughout your career. its definitely worth the investment if you're serious about it. it also doesn't hurt to have any kind of degree nowadays.

  • hey, on the going to music school thing. i am about to graduate from Musicians Institute. and i can say that after my experience there, the way i look at music completely changed from the ground up in every way. i went in a complete and total metal head, and i am leaving with foundation in a lot more styles of music. so i guess it just depends on what your goals with music are. if your goal is to just be the best metal guitarist you can be, you dont need to go to school for that in my opinion.

  • I think if you want to master the guitar as in theoretically and everything. Then just buy Creative Guitar 1 and 2 by Guthrie Govan, those books are just phenomenal and you'll learn so much. It's like an entire guitar curriculum in two books. Also if you are good at self learning then get a few guitar reading books and theory and harmony books. You can do it on your own,but colleges can really guide you. It's not for everyone though, cause everyone has a different thought process.

    Cheers.

  • Follow you heart.

I think it really depends on what you goals are. If you want to write your own music and play in your own band then continue with what you are doing. But yes Music Schools can help,it really depends. Schools will teach you how to read music and go through charts and stuff,an educated guitarist get's a lot more sessions recording opportunities. You can also combine performance and production studies. Or even take composition and production.

  • follow your heart it will always lead you in the right derection..those are my words of wisdom for ya

  • your awsome

  • PLEASE PLEASE cover some songs off ''this is where it ends'' SO glad you like that album, such a good release!

  • Solo work should always be kept in mind, but don't let it stop you from collaborating with other people. I moved to a larger town about a year ago and I have to say that the music scene is MUCH better here. If you're thinking about moving into a larger city and joining a band, you should definitely give it a shot. It's really fun to play with other people, especially if they know what they're doing.

  • You'll be successful. Fortunately you kick the shit out of any chick I've seen haha. That's an insta-cheese ($) ticket. If your looks were poops then no, but clearly that ain't be the case son. Music school is always a good thing, but yeah it costs buttloads of sour dough. You could always go to a cheap school too. Either way it won't matter if you pursue what you want, and know where you want to go. You don't need a degree, it's just a nice bonus. Don't quit, period.

  • Of course shes stoned, I could tell just by smoking this right here xD

  • Saying don't watch this actually means watch this now in Internet terms

  • 1:43 you sound like ur hitting a joint, and the line afterwards is just perfect

  • youve got to be on drugs in this video

  • 0:31 trollface.jpg

  • the tags... hahahaha.

  • i think youll be successful either way cause your smart, talented and beautiful but either way it wont be easy gotta work hard and keep it fun good luck

  • also...please check out some tube amps when you're not broke ;) I just got a 59' Fender Bassman LTD that I'm about to upload some videos on but I play some really heavy stuff through it and it sounds unfreakin believable :P

  • please get a degree!...if it's your life then what will end up happening is you will broaden what you can do with music....if you learn different techniques and theory that will make you better at recording, composing, and playing music and the most important thing I think, especial since you have the ability to play so well, is that you will be able to communicate with other professionals all the way up to the top so I say go to school and jut keep being awesome :D

  • OMG your pinky is FREAKISHLY small. You have my condolences...But err, I guess Django managed well enough with two, huh?

  • Im in love with you sarah :)

  • Do WHATEVER YOU CAN to support your career. It doesn't matter what it is, just do it. Jump into everything to see what sticks and what doesn't. Water the flowers and kill the weeds, keep your garden growing.

  • you crazy baby

  • estas realmente guapisima, you know... no hay chicas como tu, serious

  • I enjoyed this one and the combustion vid the best because in the combustion vid u make one of my dreams reality and this vid made me aware I like real women better than dreams. Adhd rules. I see you get along with ppl around you very well...keep it up and don't ever do things in a way that''s not yours. Maybe it'll make you rich and if so it wont make a real difference anyway haha. peace chickie.

  • You're adorable.

  • hbahahaha amazing pinky story, keep it up girl!!

  • If you want to go to school for music, they will most likely want you to play classics and jazz. I wanted to go to school for music and when I walked in with my 7 string, they wanted me to play smooth jazz............I laughed and walked out.

  • I have a degree in music, aside from getting a job teaching or something similar, it's of no real use. It certainly hasn't helped my career as a solo artist in any form. If you want to learn to read music or learn more about theory, the sure, but you can pretty much do that yourself with some good books. The majority of successful artists these days don't have that stuff, they just have creativity and drive, something which sadly, cannot be taught.

  • Yea I totally stopped this after you said you won't marry me. Question answered.

  • You should definitely move to Nashville. We need more metal musicians like you! Plus the contacts that you'll make here will be REALLY helpful if you're serious about pursuing a music career.

  • MOVE TO NASHVILLE THEIR ARE MUSICIANS EVERY 2 FEET

  • ok for real now, are u stoned?

  • Why the hell are most girls not as cool as you?! It's so UNFAIR!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @LetsGetHighOnMorris fully agree with your statement/question.

  • THERE IS NOTHING LEFT IM WAITING.

  • also you said you were gonna cover some ASP songs! looking forward to those if you still up for it

  • I WATCHED IT ANYWAY REGARDLESS OF THE WARNING !!!!

  • hello!

if you wanna play in a band, apply for vacancies in big bands. e.g. NEVERMORE

school opens mind, culture and perspective. it's worth trying!

if you wanna do big money, try in underdeveloped countries, like mine :-) but be prepared to do stuff you don't really like.

  • No! Nanananano! Seriously?

  • I would say keep writing your own material and if you can "market" your self (D.I.Y) then you will save more cash and you can get your music out there. Shit I spent $300 dollars at recording studio and got at least 3 almost 4 songs done. I did lead guitar, Rhythm guitar, Bass, and vocals. I had a friend that just did drums. But I got an excellent sound. Still need to put in more recording time but its like a tree. You have to plant it and take care of it and it will grow. Good luck!

  • So factor in the tuition cost for your music school probably around 30-40,000 dollars. So by the time you pay the cost for school back with just a weekend job doing sound gigging at shows 50 dollars a weekend would take fucking forever to get back. So my suggestion is if you have money to blow then go to school for music otherwise don't and find another option. You said you wanted to start a band? Well you don't need a music degree to start a band. Just need good friends.

  • This comment is to respond to your question missSmiles4u. Music school is plain a simple. You go to study classical guitar and theory. You might get some side classes for audio engineering but in the end you will get a piece of paper that says You know how to audio produce music! Straight off the back you think you will be able to get a job. But you won't. The music industry sucks cock. If you do get a job it would be doing shows for $50 per show(which is 2-3 nights a week)

  • no kidding... now i'm gonna apply for US visa :D and if u decide to remove this adorable video for any reason - DON'T U DARE !!!

  • i love you :)))))

  • your pinky is seriously short..i have a longer one for you, want it?

  • what the FUCK was that????

  • LMFAO!!!!!!!! dude this video is fucking adorable and funny as fuck

  • If you really love music and didn't like school i wouldn't recommend doing a course in music, for me it took all the enjoyment out of music, and it was so slow and easy learning compared to playing metal, i didn't make any improvement. If you could get into a good place it may be good, but for me it made me worse at music.

  • how do you link amp to computer? Line in? or mic up? if mic up, what mics do you use? and do the mics go into the line in?

  • You don't need school. Get a private teacher, find people to play with, get a shit job for a while. Just keep on going with it!

  • Just go to community college and become a music major...there are sooo many music classes to take and you'll be completely surrounded with other like minded people. You could take the Music Theory and Guitar classes and also join the Guitar Ensemble.

  • I think your pinky is not short. Your other fingers are long!

  • If you want get some cool guitar education, check out Paul Gilbert's Intense Rock Sequences and Techniques.

  • All shall perish has a new album why no one tell me this D:

  • Damn. I wish I hadn't watched this because I thought your other videos were cool. Don't be one of these Youtube vloggers

  • GO TO SCHOOL FOR MUSIC im going for jazz and classical guitar i already took some classes and its so worth it

  • HOLY SHIT. MY PINKY DOES COME UP TO THT LINE

  • oh and did i mention Tosin went there?

  • @Dethsquirrel he went there to perform from what i heard. i dont think he went to school there.

  • @ACDCwarmachine no, i just graduated that school and often had talks with the teachers about how he was as a student, he also made reference to it when he came here on AAL's last tour

  • ATLANTA INSTITUTE OF MUSIC, please come here, 1 year program $20,000 total, all of the actual theory you can learn on your own, but it would take much longer than a year, and you also get TONS of connections at the school and help with job placement

  • "SO...I WASN'T GOING TO UPLOAD THIS VIDEO" - but you did. why?

  • if you get with a signed band, no one will hire you once your 30 and kids dont care about your band - this has nothing to do with your talent, this is just how it is...... lots of people wanting to make it happen, only a few do! - your better off being a music teacher, I say go to school if possible - if paying is an issue, and you dont live in canada, rack up a huge line of credit, than go bankrupt lol

  • Will you get stoned with me? That'd be the most gnarly moment of my life.

  • This is hilarious. More videos like this. Please!

  • Rob Chappers, the monkey lord, ask him for advice. Seriously he knows his stuff.

  • you dont need to go to music school... get in a band and promote your band via the internet (youtube, facebook, myspace) as you are rocking the views on all your video's you should have no problem what so ever

  • you wish you could marry me! ;]

  • Bro, you fucked?

  • Totally agree about All Shall Perish.I'm really looking forward for your cover of the last album!!

To answer your question, go to a goddamned school, you've got talent and if you learn more ur gonna be an amazing guitar player. You must keep playing and have fun, then you'll decide what to do 'bout career..

What matters is : play and have Fun! Play and play and play and play.....

  • some of the best shit ive seen. keep blowing other out da water .

  • Comment removed

  • Seriously, I can't stop laughing

  • No seriously are you stoned?

  • @someguy11331 Why do you ask that or care? Does it matter to you or something?

  • you are fucking amazing at guitar!

  • being a girl, you're going to get recognized a lot more then other guitarists, but besides that point, the talent you possess is fuckin sick dude. i was working on my drum cover for CAFO and when i saw your video in the related section, i was blown away. keep at it dude, hopefully we both get famous :D

  • I also use the varigrip. It is very very useful trust me, but there is a better way to practice your finger's strengh. Climbing. In only one month, I was like twice faster on the neck :) try this !!

  • your adorable...truly truly adorable

  • Your eyes are pretty *⌒▽⌒*

  • Dear God, I am in love!

  • OK.

Here are my 2 cents about your question.

You should go get a degree in anything, just so you have something you can fall back on.

Maybe after college you can go to music school.

  • hey... wait a minute...your a girl. why are we not making babys..

    im confused...

  • Band. Band band band,

  • Go to damn music school!!!!!!!!!!!! I wanna go. You can never be to educated in music.

  • I, too, am cursed with the freak pinky :( But, I got around it and can now do freakish chords and stuff that most of my friends with huge hands can't do :b

  • 60K/year? Music school? Did you mean law school or a dentistry, eh?

  • Just start a BAND! I posted on another page of yours, I have a wicked idea for an all girl band & you would be the #1 pick for lead guitar.... It's too cool, you have to querry me about it :)

  • I would recommend getting books on subjects you are interested in. Ted Greene's Chord chemistry. Enough chord inversions to keep you busy for years! You seem more riffy and shreddy than chordy though.

  • As a Meshugga fan; you being one, whereas myself, I'd say that I'm a fan in- waiting wanting to explore their back-log of releases after having just discovered them recently through a recommendation by Steve Carpenter ala Deftone's guitarist.. He claims that Chaosphere is his favorite album of all time, but that's him, which album would be a good one to start with? And is Chaosphere they're best in your opinion?

  • Crap, sorry!

  • honestly i dont think you should go to music school.. school is a scam in the first place. a record label doesnt care if you have a guitar degree :P if you want to get into audio engineering i wouldnt go to school either. find a local engineer and intern with them.or just learn on youtube. what you should do is just keep writing and keep writing..and oh yea keep writing!! and keep an eye out for a band looking for guitarist or start your own band. oh yea.. will u marry me? :)

  • sooo, i just commented on your follow the signs video about how you never use your pinky and neither do i, and now that im watching this i can add that i also bought that same exact grip thing that you have, i think. mine says varigrip on it. anyway, and it barely helped my pinky too. AND all shall perish is awesome. cover divine illusion... anyway, i dont have any advice for you, but im gonna subscribe to you now. bye

  • YES! As soon as I saw that amp I knew what it was. Line6 makes some good stuff. [=

  • wow i actually watched this

  • Your eyes are so hypnotic :) Geezus, did you get your talent from a previous life? How long you been playing, and how did you learn all those techniques..so flawless and fluid man?

  • You seem like a hardcore spaz :) you should just go jam with as many people as you can try jamming with people who Intimidate you like you may think they are better musicians or whatever, if you do that you can only get better :)

  • How much does a good camera cost these days, anyway?

  • Serious quesiton, you stoned?

  • @Troncoso459 Does it matter anyways?

  • @Troncoso459 She is higher than a kite, my friend.

  • shut up!

  • In most cases, the answer to the "should I pursue a career in music" question is "only if you have a big tolerance for risk..." Talent alone guarantees nothing. There are mind-blowingly talented guys playing bars, while Justin Bieber wins 4 American Music Awards... With that said, a girl who plays guitar well has certain advantages. An attractive girl (which you are) who plays well can almost write her ticket, since she will be extremely marketable. In your case, I'd say yeah. Go for it.

  • Comment removed

  • Also, I would definitely suggest getting in a band...or 2...or 3....or as many as your schedule will allow. The whole solo thing is impressive, but you know as well as I do...this genre of music can't be perfected by 1 person live. Stage presence has everything to do with you getting somewhere with a music career. If you ever come to Austin (ya, my opinion is biased...Texas has Sky Eats Airplane), hit me up. I know a lot of really awesome people that can help you out with getting started.

  • You have 2 options...find buried treasure chest and go to Berklee...orr move to another city. I don't even know where your from but Seattle WA and Austin TX are both awesome towns to start a music career in. It's really just about meeting people. You're an amazing guitarist, I think you'd dive into the music scene really quickly and get nabbed by some kind of label in the first year easy. I cant lie, it helps that you're a girl.

  • yea dude. Community college did serious work for me as a musician and a player. It takes you out of your comfort zone which sucks at first but if you are willing to learn will help you immensely. And yea, community is FAR less expensive than university and to be honest you're really not paying for better teachers. MCCC all day lol

  • mmm so that explains the pinky thing... who cares about the pinky finger when you can rock shit without it. ... KEEP IT UP!!!!

  • Move to a big city and pursue the bigger venues and opportunities. Make new friends, experience new things and broaden your inspirations. These can help with musical creativity.

School costs to much and you'd be for ever in debt unless you made it big through music.

Joining a band where you are can turn out to be nothing but a waste of time and probably wont allow you to fully express yourself musically.

And being an Internet icon hardly happens and when it does it's short lived.

  • I wanna marry you :)

  • on your level, a music school can not do very much for you, besides maybe contact to other musicians. but if yu really want to, try to get a scholarship, with your skills this should be no big problem in my opinion.

what i think is really important to improve is this contact with other musicians, this can push you really hard, i made really good experiences with that. but you don't need necessarily a music school for that.

  • 0:29 haha ^^

  • Hey Sarah. If you want to go to music school, don't aim low and go to a place like Musician's Institute. If I were you, I'd go to a community college, exhaust their resources, and transfer over to a serious university with a good music department. If you decide you don't want to do music professionally, you can always study something you care about more instead. :D

…If worse comes to worse, you'll have a degree and college experiences.

  • btw..either if u choose to sign up to a music school or not remember that u ll have to practice a lot....which u can do byurself too without dropping a fortune :) ..if u look around u can see famous guitarists with different skills level and they are all happy with it..u just have to ask urself if u are already happy with the skill u already have..if ur answer is yes u dont need any school :) ..regarding music theory and stuff u can find tons of free material on the net! good luck and ciao! :)

  • hi, i came across ur video in a funny way :) ..regarding ur question...first of all u ll have to move to another city anyway if u really wanna pursuit ur music career. nowadays the net and youtube can help u a lot that's true but u ll need to go to a place where "the things happen" ..and not just in music! talking about music school..depends on the skills u wanna reach..if u think that u still lack in some skills that u may need to improve, going to a music school can be a good idea..

  • can u say the price of your 8 string guitar?

  • none of my new music is on facebook. so everything on here that i have isnt that well but if u contact me through facebook or youtube then i could give you more info on stuff.

  • you should move to a different city. go to school for music production and theory. and find a band. and actually as of right now my band is searching for another guitarist. you can find us on facebook. Forgive the Grave. i live in northern virginia manassas. and the same guy who taught jason richardson works up here giving guitar lessons

  • I would say no school just keep playing and move if there isn't many players there. Nice videos!

  • I hate EZ drummer more than anyone else :D P.S you dont have to buy stuff ^^ Just download the cracked version of Superior Drummer

  • I think I love you.. Yes I do!!

  • I think you should work on your own stuff till you feel confident enough to start a band..there's not a lot of 8 string guitarists that know what they are doing..Coming from an 8 string guitarist, its really f+ing hard to find people that can play..I've been playing for years and have found maybe one drummer that was excellent..I think you would learn more just studying on your own, music school will get you a degree yeah, but your talent is what is gonna get you places..

  • Do you like Dream Theater or Guthrie Govan? That'd be really cool to see a cover!

  • She doesn't use her pinky because she is MICHAEL KEENE.

  • You play so much better than yo talk.

  • Comment removed

  • Why not upload this? If you think you have ADHD you should see my friends from Sweden, just add alcohol and it's a riot. Grats on the contest btw, keep on making videos and I hope you get sponsored.

  • and now my question... whats the music scene like where you're from?

  • everyone has to sacrifice... 50.00 on the electric bill... title loan on the car... hockin extra guitars.... whatever! unless ur trying to do it as a hobby, find a good way to fund it... (selling misc. drugs helps)

  • neassnommis has a good opinion... i have been playing music since i was 9... im 28 now, definately go to school for a fall back or a way to fund your passion and pursuit of music. ive worked almost every job u can name and i ended up doing roof construction(cant beat 34 an hour) but its still almost impossible to keep up with how demanding the music is... for example: your drummer needs new heads or cymbal or both... he/she is broke for the next 2 weeks and u have a show in 2 days...

  • (in my opinion) Don't go to music school. If you need to go to school, study something you can fall back on. Music comes from your inner satan. Start playing with people, much more productive than getting a lecture about playing with people. I dig some of your original stuff, but getting input and ideas from other people is invaluable and so much more fun. rhythm, song structure, note choice>shredding

  • About your pinky, it IS kinda no excuse, cause the pinky on my left hand is also below that line, but I've kinda gotten past that after doing millions of pinky exercises - so now there are no complaints.

With regards to the music school thing, do it. I love music too and it is the only thing I'm good at. Problem is, I'm stuck in law school cause of my family, and I hate it hate it hate it. Bottom line, do what you love. Best of luck.

  • Depends what you want out of school (to read music and learn theory, learn music business, make connections, teach music). GIT is the place to go.

Cheaper option is get in touch with a teacher that fit your style and has music connections.

Talk with an agent for future tips and suggestions. Not a bad way to get foot in door.

Playing in a band requires money (equipment!) and pay to play, demos, press kits, gas, clothes and plenty of strings, egos, differences, etc. & no cover bands. WOT

  • You have a really cute smile ! :)

  • going to music school is a tough choice, if you can't read sheet music or if you don't know what key signatures are, etc., you would definitely benefit from that. But on the other side, studying it may take away your interest because your going to have to study and practice a lot of things that your not necessarily into. you seem very talented tho and many musicians didn't study music until they were well on in their career (The Beatles, Flea, etc.) Im sure either way you'll find success

  • Hi Sarah; I sent you a couple of emails to your AOL address - they wouldn't fit here - (friendly advice - on getting recognized in the music biz - etcetra)

    all the best; Paul

  • Sooo....will you marry me? ;)

  • not music school

    go to BUSINESS SCHOOL

    and make some money!

  • an off topic (from marriage, anyway..)

I studied a diploma in music this year... and it was amazing... alot of fun.

I abosulutely don't think you need to study to make it in the music industry... but I know with my studies, it really prepared me for the industry and what it has to offer.

I'm studying Music Business next year... and can't wait.

The biggest question is, how serious are you :) if you love music enough... do everything you can.. join a band, study, do solo stuff, all of it!

  • .... so.....

    will you re-think marrying me....?

  • Weighing all factors, she is a 10.

  • Oh shit You must have some good weeed xd.

  • Question... If you are recording with that ipod... how did you hold it up? is this Schroedigners iPod?? xD

  • @InVerum lol good question! i used the camera on my moms mac lol (which has, almost equally shitty quality as the camera on my ipod, but the ipod is a wee bit better:) haha!
