  • hey! i was there!

  • what a fag

  • Actually, video shows the massive Loyola tornado coming the ground right next to Lake Michigan and then moving into the Lake as a large and violent waterspout. It had been tracked by the National Weather Service all the way from O'Hare Airport and that was the reason for the rare decision to sound the sirens across the metropolitan area. Radar indicated a large and powerful tornado.--Wayne Brasler, University of Chicago

  • it was probably a water spout ( a water tornado)

  • it`s isn`t funnel cloud

  • I'm a trained spotter and that's certainly a wall cloud, not a funnel cloud.

  • That wasnt no fucking funnel cloud you idiot

  • SOMEONE COMMENT ON MY VIDEOS

  • No sirens why?

  • @XXTHE12THMANXX because it didnt touch down

  • @DaCoolKid1212 If there was still only rotation the siruens still should have gone off

  • @XXTHE12THMANXX but it was over the lake, the sirens go off when it's on land

  • It really is the windy city.

  • dude thats not a funnel cloud lol

  • dude thats a wall cloud

  • cm punk better watch out

  • dude wwe is fake the fighting is fake and cm punk isnt his real name jeez

  • dude i know i'm retarded i was just being sarcastic

  • I believe you and all, but was there any rotation? Because tornadoes don't usually form near large cities.

  • I remember that day..

  • what the hell south siders miss everything!!!

  • did this funnel cloud turn into a tornado

  • Not a tornado yet.....just a hefty bowl-shaped wall cloud. Tornadoes often form from wall clouds. There are rotating and non-rotating wall clouds....this one was rotating like a top. My guess was that tornadogenesis was imminent.

  • Girl screamed!

  • i remember this

  • That is diffanty a funnal cloud...then someone screams.

  • I LIVE IN CHICAGO!!!!! I SAW IT!

  • God that thing is scary!

  • oh my god!

  • i would pee my pants

  • That was the huge F-1 Lake Mishigan Tornado of 06 I remember sitting there with the tv acting up about a tornado. That thing shouldve been rated F-5!

  • theres probably a waterspout in the funnel cloud

  • i was in downtown chicago 2 days ago.

i seen lake michigan, downtown chicago, navy pier, and subway trains but basicaslly just drove the entire time. dad got sick and went to hospital later on. hopfully we can get out of here today and come back to arkansas.

  • there was a funnel cloud like right in front of my house i live in romeoville and the weather always goes past us and hits joliet but not this time

  • DANG!!! THE CIVIL DEFENSE SIRENS ALWAYS SEND THE WARNINGS REALLY LATE!!! YET, you can look on the Weather Channel and find out you're in a tornado warning an hour before the STORM COMES!!

  • high rise building, or flat land, Doesnt matter, a tornado can happen anywhere! U just have to have the right ingreadients. Didnt u see the Tornado that hit Salt Lake City a few years ago, Or Kansas City, Oklahoma City back in 99. Yeah, it happens anywhere. And Dont try to out smart me, u currently attend school for Meteorology so i kinda know a Fact or MORE! thanks

  • U dont need flat land to get a tornado you idiot haha. You need warm air, and the right wind sheer and rotation in the storm. Tornado's happen anywhere, and the tall building have no effect what so ever. Before u Type, u should look it up before.

  • a tornado could touch down by flat buildings. only for seconds. cuz all the vidz i seen of tornaod all i can see is flat land. i odnt think chicago not gonna get a tornado in this centruey.yea and anythnigs possible.

  • chicago had a tornado back in the day lol

  • Chicago doesnt get tornados! theres not enough flat land therecan be tornado waringings every year but it will never ever toch down unless all thoes building faid to heeps!

  • wtf there doesnt have to be flat land....maybe only sometimes...

  • Salemme, you never know what will happen. Nobody thought the New Hampshire tornado would touch down. It did, didn't it? And destroyed a huge city. And several streets, F-3 WEDGE. That almost acts out as an F-4. So, you can NEVER predict weather, anything can happen.

  • salemme you have low IQ to think that downtown areas like chicago are 'twister-proof'

  • WOW if the brick apartment buildings werent there, It would look like you were in miami

with the color of the water from Lake Michigan. Great funnel by the way!!!

  • dude i remember this cuz this was my birhtday!

  • yeah it was bad but i didnt get hit cook county like a block away from getting hit

    lmao

  • i know i didn't get hit either. i was scared we would. it was so close!! lol

  • tottaly i was a realy bad storm

  • i live right off lakeshore drive kinda where that cloud was passing by my friend was like that bitch better not come down lmao

then i was or what ?

but its a really bad storm going on right now sirens and warnings every where august 4 08

  • mondays storm sucked

  • yea i lost power too. what crap we got on that day!

  • im gonna have to agree with oklahomaweather1. i think it was a wall cloud, but, if there was going to be a tornado, that's where it would come from

  • lol dude that landed south of chicago scary!

  • I'm a trained weather spotter for the NWS and I think it looks like a wall cloud, but then again it's kinda blury. =) I'd have to see it in real life.

  • I would have to agree with you. That looks like a wall cloud and may have some rotation to it.

  • No shit its a funnel cloud, the "screams" you hear is the wind, and the worst place to be is on the 43nd story of an apartment building....

  • it touched down about 400 yards away from the loyola university, but it not only became a waterspout, i don't think it caused any damage.

  • i live in Chicago and i dont recall that ever happening?

  • water spouse? lmao

  • ahaha.. water spouse now that's just funny! lol

  • Waterspout?

  • scary but cool

  • Was this funnel cloud near the University of Chicago??

  • nope. Loyola University

  • hey man i live on this side of chicago but have a house right near the river freaking scary

  • Also you can hear people screaming! Listen really closely.

  • There seems to be alot of tornadoes in Chicago.

  • Scary stuff.. did it ever touch?

  • nope it was over lake michigan

  • wat hes tryin to say is wen hot & cold air collide it creats a tornado

  • How come we never see these in the uk..?

  • The United States has the worst weather on the planet because we have The Gulf of Mexico with very humid air which water temeratures average well over 80 degrees farenheit (27 Celcius) to our south, and strong cold fronts which race down from Canada. When these two collide over the plains of the Central U.S., Thunderstorms explode in intensity. The U.S. averages 1,000 tornadoes a year.

  • you can see them regularly in the uk check out youtube for a start

  • That was incredible

  • Nice wall cloud.

  • that was no funnel.u could se it spinning and the sound would be crazy.

  • there most certainly was a tornado confirmed over lake michigan that day

  • ok,ok,thanx

  • ACtually I think it spins too fast to be a wall cloud, and the city did get lucky

  • Yes that was a wall cloud. I was near midway tracking it as it came in. The city should have sounded sirens, but didn't. They got lucky.

  • thats a wall cloud...not a funnel

  • that was crazy cuz it was like a tornado on the lake my friend got a good pic on his was to school on lakeshore drive but nothing ever happened and we still had to go to school

  • i live near chicago and the wind where i live got up to like 74mph! the water came up 10ft(from a lower area, not above your head)

  • the storms today in chicago were NUTS!! the tree in front of my house snapped in half!!!

  • hey guys, there was a storm today in Chicago, and there have been funnel clouds seen near downtown.

  • yea i spotted two!

  • we are so lucky that a tornado didnt touch down in the city

  • my mum and i stand on the front porch if and whenever the sirens go off...we've been called a ludicrous bunch

  • I remember that day. that was hell. usually we get those in Will County in Plainfield. or remember the one in Oak Lawn that tore the entire roof off Oak Lawn H.S.???

  • I remember that whole day. It was absolute HELL in long beach. We watched everything happen from our porches, because you can see the city from Michigan city/lakeshore drive, that lakefront area in Indiana. Then, it got nasty by us and we got THREE waterspouts. Scariest day ever, but probably the most beautiful natural disaster I've ever seen.

And the funnel WAS huge. We got a wedge by us, and had a 15 foot water trampoline lifted and carried through the air.

  • ok so ive lived in chicago my whole life and never remember seeing.hearing about this at all

  • Exactly LOL

  • Wedge Funnel Cloud!

  • That funnel was massive. That would have been a monster...

  • It can happen. And in the future, with urban sprawl, tornadoes will be seen more and more in the cities. Dont forget the 1990 plainfield il tornado and the oak lawn tornado 1967 , lemont too. All within 40 mi of chicago.

  • tornadoes are not common in any large city, especially chicago. usually they just pass around or desintegrate.

  • were those screams i heard? I couldnt imagine a tornado in chicago, not that the winds wouldnt cause damage, but the glass from all our buldings would be the biggest problem. That would be a gore fest to say the least.

  • Pfft, prolly. I'd be screaming to if I saw that.

  • erm... is that normal for chicago ? O.o

  • Welcome to the Windy City!

  • Its definatly not normal. >_< L0l
