I think we agree more than we disagree. They were mean because they acted like racists. One definition of "race" is "any geographical, national, or tribal ethnic grouping," so to hate her and abuse her because of her American nationality is a form of racism. What's remarkable is how many people, both from the USA and from Central and South America, have rallied around her without knowing or caring about her racial background. My country has certainly progressed since I was a kid.
