I was alive during Ali's time too: Frazier beat him in 1971, and was over the hill for the second and third fights. Foreman was a slow puncher who could never really tag Ali. Tyson in his prime would have done just fine in that era.

@PirateEyepatch if his trainers..the old men didnt die he wouldnt have lost to douglas...holyfield and lewis were better fighters but buster was..just that a buster that got lucky..one day and time..if a rematch happened tyson would have won !

@BettorOffSingle you say he never lost before douglas, true, but there was douglas to avenge, he has followed the set pattern never avenging a loss, the only "GREAT" to achieve such a thing. In reference to spinks, being champ does not make you great, name me a great fight that spinks has been involved in? a fight where he and the other hand had to dig real deep to win, like the gatti and ward fight or ali and frazier 3 ? Tyson only looked great against BUMS!!!!!!!!!!!

The reason people think Tyson only beat "bums" is that he made the entire DIVISION look like bums. Tillis wasn't a bum, and neither were Green, nor Spinks, Williams, or Bruno. He dispatched whatever they served him, with tons to spare.
How many of the other "great champions" blasted people in the FIRST ROUND? Those guys had all their energy and it still didn't help.

@chaka943 Not too many echo our words.According to some,tyson was overrated and never foguth anyone.I recollect him beating the shit out of 9 people,2 were champs,2 were exchamps and the rest could beat lewis and bowe on a given night.I remember the greatest fighter of all time under 23 yrs old.I also remember all the experts saying he was as good or better then ali.This wasnt a mirage,it was a reality.,He was That good for a few years.

@worldcoup mike had 20 first round knockouts against some of the worst heavyweights i have ever seen, they were beaten before the bell went. Then he met holyfield. "he was not the same, Holyfield headbutted him" you tyson fans say, yet he went on a 6 win knockout spree then he met lennox. Mike looks unstoppable against mediocre opponents but seems to ordinary against ambitious oppnents. He is the only so called great who has never avenged a loss, gotten off the floor to win, or lose by decision

He is still known as the hardest punching heavyweight in history, Until he met ali he had 41 fights 41 wins 41 knockouts. You seem to think that fighters like rocky marciano, ali, frazier, liston, were made out of the same stuff as mikes victims. They were defeated fighters. Ali had a better chin than mike could take more punishment and had ability to absorb pain. ....

@worldcoup Tyson freaked out at the sight of his own blood against holyfield, moaning to the referee about his eye like a busted bitch!!! I have never seen ali begging the referee for his attention. Ali beat fighters who he was told he could not beat, tyson beat fighters who everyone knew he would beat. The only question in his case was what round would he knock them out in. Watch gatti v ward on youtube and tell me if you have ever seen mike in a fight like that. it is an epic!!!
