It's most likely because americans watched this video and thought "hey this british guy is knocking our version of roulette and I haven't the maths (yes maths not math) skills to work out why. I just looked at the percentages for a 1:37 and 1:38 chance.. you're basically complaining about a 0.0007% rift between the two game styles. It's negligible.

If you played a thousand games of American Roulette on single numbers, you'd statistically win 26 times.

If you played a thosuand games of European Roulette on single numbers, you'd statistically win 27 times.

1 game in 1000 isn't going to change much.

That is a huge difference. In blackjack, a difference of 0.50% house edge is catastrophic, so a difference of 2.56% is definitely not negligible. Exactly the reason why I walked past a roulette table at Atlantic City.

u just get screwed even bigger on an american table. remember when u win money on a number u are actually losing money every time because u should get 38 times ur money back total, so the casino is actually winning when ur winning. if u play poker u can get ur money back 100 times callin with 36% percent chance of winning if there is enough in the pot, but poker takes years to learn and u need to fight hard to remain profitable

Mate, DON'T assume the odds of online Roulette are the same as a real table. They often are not. Check VERY carefully exactly the system they are using. Basically, online games use a totally different system, based on random number generation (from millions)- it's NOT simply the case that it picks one of the numbers 00 - 36 with an even chance.

that theory is what they call "doubling up". It works, right up to the point where you lose all your money. Think of it this way.. if you brought 5,000 dollars, and bet 5 and doubled up each time, it would take only 11 losses in a row to make you lose $5,120. and, if you happen to win at the 10th loss, you are risking $2,560 to only gain $5.

It is true that if you want to play roulette, European roulette gives you better chances. Even people who play just black or red are affected by that, because in the european one, only one number can't win, whereas in the american system, 2 numbers can cut you of your money. Now you could think, so what, one number in 37-38 is not so much of a difference. Nonetheless...1/37 = 2.7% and 1/38 = 2.6315% a total difference of probability of 000.1315% (I added the 0's for effect). So for each 10,000 bucks on a whole number you bet, you have a statistical loss of 13 cents..woopdeedoo. Plus american roulette usually pays holding on '00', which offers like a jackpot (in a sense, 1:300+ payout). play euro if you want.

On the American Wheel, you can place a 4 chip bet and cover more than 1/4 of the wheel. Place a 1 chip 6 way bet on 7-12. A 1 chip bet on 25-30. A 1 chip bet on 32, and 1 chip between 17 and 20. You'll have 14 numbers covered and they all fall between 28 and 17 as seen on the wheel, plus 8-12-29 which are all next to each other and 25-10-27 which are also right next to each other.
