@MamaLuigi314 what? o.o you can install firefox,opera,chrome,stainless and so on without any problem on a mac XD you can also install DoubleTwist,RealPlayer and most of all known and good music players work on the mac operating system flawlessly. Just search for a program on google and writhe "mac" or "for mac" behind it and in most cases you will find it ;D and if not,you will find a really good alternative ^^

As a former Customer Service Rep in Compute City (Bought out by Comp USA, repair division turned into "Geek Squad") I can tell you the average person is going to have trouble with any New OS...especially if they install it themselves no matter if it is Windows, MAC, Red Hat, Leopard, Linux, Unix or a OEM OS (Rare,most Business/finance/Military systems run applications in Windows/Unix nowadays)

I am on a Dell from 1999, that was upgraded many times by the University of Baltimore before I bought it on Ebay from a liquidator for $129, It has XP, and is of "gaming configuration"

Had a problem with a Dell driver, called Dell, they actually helped me get the driver even though I am not the original owner and the PC is from 1999

Also own a Tandy 1000 from 1991 that still works and is of "gaming configuration" and runs "Rooms of Doom"

Try that with a 1991/1999 MAC

I didnt think so.

Windows 7 is a very nice OS. It doesnt go far enough in new concepts though. It still has a terrible backup solution. Its far better than vista, and still too shallow for high end users.

That's cool, I've worked on both, used to program PC's from way back in the DOS days. Now I work on a mac.

But you did mention you hadn't ever used an Apple computer, and I would hate to accuse you of being narrow minded by disliking something simply because it's unfamiliar.

That's cool. The problem is, PC's are so crap that it doesn't matter if they're 64 bit or not. Photoshop runs better on a 'slower' mac than on a PC. So does sound editing software.

But if you want 'simple', 'less clicks' all the crap these guys are talking about, just try out a macbook laptop. Pretty sweet machines. If not, have fun :o)

MAC is a PC

More specifically MAC is the last OEM PC company standing from the "PC wars" of the 80's where they make the COmputer,make the OS,and make the applications. Orphan Computers like the Celeco Adam and Timex Sinclair are collectables

Windows on the other hand is a "open architecture" OS that will run on PCs made by hundreds of different manufactures computers built with modular parts which means quality can vary on the PCs & ANY OS/Program added to it may not be 100% compatible

However... you can run mac OSX on a PC if you have the brains.

Really doesn't matter, some people like Mercedes, others like Toyota...

Still agree with you - the reason macs are more reliable is the software knows instantly every component it's dealing with, unlike PCs where you can (to use previous analogy) have a Toyota body, a Ford engine, Volvo windscreen wipers and a Volkswagen wheelbase.

They are among the "Orphans" cause they were among the best quality/most expensive PCs that couldn't compete against 1/2 to 1/4 priced "IBM compatibles"/IBM CLone" which is still the PC standard (even for MAC)

They still make Mainframes, Mini-computers,wordprocessers,­typewritters, and printers

Remember them trying the Personal Digital Assistant thing when that was fad as well..lol

If you want a rolls royce, get a mac, want an old datsun with a toyota engine, GM mouse and a microsoft interior - get a PC.

Apple users are actually, in my experience, treated better by the operating environment. All the technical things are there if you want to delve into it, but if you just want to plug a camera in and have it pop up ready to print or download - guess what, it does! On a PC you need to download 20 drivers, they rarely install, it's such a pain in the backside.

MamaLuigi - Snow Leopard is an update, not an overhaul. I could be wrong there but I don't work for Apple. As with every new operating system there might be teething problems but it's still a damn long way in front of Windows 7 (64 bit yet?). Plus I think a lot o the negativity has come from the PC camp, not apple users. I certainly haven't had any problems with it, loving the extra space and that my machine runs even faster now (without an upgrade).
