forget the boot from usb drive or disk . VM Ware player is all you need to run BT on windows

The EEE doesn't have much power to space, so running two OSs doesn't help much.

Hey guys, I have Backtrack 3 on my new netbook, but when I log into backtrack using my Live CD, the ethernet port doesn't light up and I cant get any connectivity. I have Windows XP on my HDD and it works fine in XP but not Backtrack 3. Any of you guys know whats going on? Obviously the ethernet port isn't damaged or broken or anything, so maybe it's a software issue....any answers?

Run it Normal Mode , and you will not need to make commands how ever , you should first know to to install , when you have your backtrack for USB , go to folder boot and click on bootinst.bat , after restart your pc , chose the boot from your EXTERNAL disk , after just make

USER : root / pass : toor

and after make startx

you will see the desktop ...

@happytodd after you install BT you can change to ALSA but if you start it as Live CD you need to make it everytime, so its better that you change your setup files, it not so easy but I believe there are some tuts

@Xreals Cheers mate, I've sold my laptop now, however I'm very keen to get back to Backtrack it was a wonderful OS while I had it, although I kept it as a Live CD. I shall look out for some tuts when I get a new laptop soon. Hopefully this month. Thanks again!

:o Finally found out that you can't get sound drivers etc to work doing it this way. Shame I don't have much storage on my eee pc left. Should start from scratch and install windows and BT3... Im a linux noob and hardly understand anything!

I shouldn't think so. the "buntu" operating systems are pretty flexible. And Backtrack installs to a different partition so it shouldn't interact in any way.

WTF? Why a compaitble USB wifi adapter?

I use the 701 instead but it's the same wifi chipset. Atheros. And it's supported for both monitor mode and capturing and cracking.. :S

Do your research...

The 901 has completly different chipset.

Ralink wifi, and I think atheros LAN. Wifi not supported for injection yet.
