  • I really wish this commercial was back.. GRR...

  • Great commercial song and message, except he Coke BS. lol

  • As cheesy as these commercials might seem today, I miss the care-free innocense of them:)

  • Shakermaker its Better .i. malditos ahora toman Pepsi !!

  • Anything to sell a coke.

  • What year was this commercial made ?

  • @hildiguru Around '75, I think. I remember it well and always equated it with the spirit of the season. Even if it is idealistic.

  • I did like this though Idk why! :P

  • Oasis Shakermaker beats this crap! lol :)

  • The original commercial is the hilltop version that came out in 1971. I think this is the 1983 rendition.

  • bad quality but great song thumbs up if u agree

  • They could never show the Christmas Tree at the end of this, it might offend somebody. Instead, it would have to be a Holiday Tree that in no way reminds people of the birth of Big Bad Jesus and his biased message of hope and salvation.

  • i saw one that have a guy in a NASCAR stock car singing the song!

  • This song is so touching, and sweet

  • That was then this is now..."HEAD ON APPLY DIRECTLY TO THE FOREHEAD HEAD ON, HEAD ON, HEAD ONNN"...i like thens better

  • we're learning this song in choir

  • i remember this commerical also.

  • I think that world has forgotten to love! there's no love in music anymore. I love the 60's 70's and 80's!! :) There was always love in the music

  • @thomassumner Sounds like someone needs a hug.

  • @John27346 R u cute?

  • @thomassumner Let's keep this platonic.

  • @John27346 :)

  • @John27346 R u cute? :)

  • I never seen so many Pepsi rejects looking at Coca Cola you tube ads before ?? Whatever, I guess the Pepsi ads just suck so bad that it's all they have - so keep their brainless ideas off here '!

  • @vbear66 You disgust me, you need serious help. You're a genocidal person and that's NOT okay.

  • @vbear66 Hey stupid I have an idea, shut up

  • @vbear66 Hey stupid, shut up

  • @vbear66 YES!!! im so with u.

  • This is the best comercial ever!! makes me warm and happy....group hug

  • When adds were simple!!!

  • @tribeisone and not retarded!... and i wasnt even born then.

  • I remember this commercial, it's right up there with the Coca Cola commercial with the football player and the little boy. Best holiday commercial of all times.

  • Shakermaker is more fashionable than Coca Cola ;D

  • Forget the coke. I can use a couple hundred for my bills though. Thanks.

  • Thank you for posting this!

  • One of the most memorable Christmas commercials from my childhood!

  • 1981 the first time I saw this commercial I was 7 years old

  • I ain't buying the world a coke! Shoot! I got bills to pay! LOLOLOL.

  • @JhomasE thanks for the laugh! lol

  • @Brinah You're welcome, LOL. Wasting my hard earned dollars on some strangers on some novelty flavored drink? Let em' drink water! ;)

  • @JhomasE lol water is free! Well except the bottled kind! I drink water more than soda anyway!

  • @JhomasE ROTFLMFAO!You and me both.

  • Ahhh remember the cokes in glass bottles that cost 25 cents (or less)?

I think Coke needs to run a new ad campaign with this commercial or a re-make.

  • What is the original airing date of this commercial?

  • @THX1205 i recall it was near 1973-74

  • @kotraquin Thanks!

  • Now I really do wish to buy the world a coke and keep it company.

  • Thumbs up if the 80's rocked!!!!!

  • @mikedavis5671 shat ap gopher boy

  • There's a nice reference to this in Melinda Gates' TED talk

  • like it or not, coca cola are genious's

  • I remember seeing this for the first time back in the 70's having a warm and fuzzy feeling inside. I was a little kid then. Now I see it has a hilarious and insidious use of the hippie peace movement to get people to BUY Coca Cola. Of course it was much more than that. Its Coca Cola proving that you can buy anything. They bought the hippie movement, packaged it and then served it up to middle America. Its commercialism at its finest. Wow, Coke and Mcdonalds would soon own the world.

  • Thanks, I've been looking for this!

  • were doing this in chorus but the words will be diffrent ..asn i doubt theyll give us candles let alone anything on fire HAAH but i think we got adifrent version that the christmas one

  • @chaseyoungismine When this first aired in the 70s there was a pop song version played on radio and sung in school choirs where the lyrics were slightly changed so it wasn't an ad. "I'd like to buy the world a home and keep it company" was one of the changes made. (But everybody knew the song still belonged to Coca Cola.

  • I love this song and this commercial. I think, this is Coke's best commercial. The should bring it back this holiday season and watch their sales grow because of baby boomers and the new generation reminiscing their parents' good old days.

  • @sethland you mean christmas holiday

  • @rebelsofireland I meant the Holidays in America at the start of Thanksgiving Day which is the last Thursday of November and until New Year's Day.

  • omg i remember the orgional commerical of this back in 1980

  • Man, I remember this commercial. It was in 1972. I was living in Mississippi then. believe it or not, I was only 3 years old, but I still remember it. The reason I know is because my parents told me I was 3 at the time. Amazing how you can remember certain things from your early childhood.

  • I miss that America!

  • gave it a good rating :]

  • They couldn't even say Merry Christmas then either.

  • @abc1000001 "Season's Greetings" is all encompassing. It applies to those who don't celebrate Christmas, and it also covers New Years.

  • @ScottJ794

Actually it doesn't cover New Year's because we all know that the Chinese New Year isn't even close to this time of year. It is a way to remove Christ. That's all. It doesn't encompass anything, rather it removes the reason for the season.

  • is the tree a pyramid with light (all seeing eye) ?

  • Neat commercial!

  • The world would be a better place drink coke!

  • @oldsouthpaw That's right. It'll be good business for the doctors and surgeons operating on obesity and treating diabetes. Not to mention dentists who'd be so keen in giving them new teeth.

  • A song by the Seekers of New Seekers. I remembered this commercial first aired in 1970 in Hong Kong. Sure is meaningful even after all these years; but the bloody world is in such mess now.....sigh

  • I especially love the italian kid fron Jersey with the indian costume on! LOL :) :) :)

  • Gee, more communist propaganda! - LOL ha ha - Just kidding:)

  • this is so beautiful. It sends chills down my spine and raises goosebumps on my skin. I wish the world could get along like this for real

  • Beautiful ad!! I was sorry when they replaced it after a few years, because we always looked forward to it.

  • I remeber this one! What a great commercial! Sure beats a lot of the annoying one's of today

  • Beautiful song.

  • Great ad. A few days ago, I just started singing it out of nowhere-haven't heard it in many years. I wanted to hear it so badly that I came on U tube looking for it. This was not cheap to make;as I recall the ad quite ground breaking as well. Merry Christmas everyone.

  • we had a snow storm today in md - like you, this song came out of nowhere and i cannot stop singing it. it actually is a song, but coke used it as well. classic.

  • I love this song and this commercial. I think it was the best commercial jingle ever!

  • I dont remember this jingle. Seems like it could have been made when I was a little girl.

  • Ahh Lindsey, you age is showing....or maybe mine is! LOL. Merry Christmas to you sister. I wanted to share this with you because I LOVE this.

  • I remember this commercial so well that I did a search on Youtube and found it, and I haven't seen it for 30 years. Excellent commercial, and brilliant marketing!! It's the kind of song that one can't get out of his head for a while. I know for a fact that Coke made millions from this commercial alone.

  • Great commercial, i still enjoy it after all these yrs. I wondered what has become of these people.

  • tomorow my class and i are singing this song for remembarance day tomorow im so soooooooooooo excided and scared wish me luck

  • Good Luck.

The band played on as the Titanic sank. But everyone drowned cheerfully.

  • Haha!!

The comments re-edit themselves. So jotaman65 now calls me a fuckwit.

Life is poetry in motion or blog motion.

Good thing I'm not an oversensitive American who believes in Coke adverts.

  • I remember this runninig throughout the mid 70's to early 80's. Nice ad.

  • We're worms, we wriggle, we like to have a giggle!

  • Jotaman65

If the world gets you down and you wear a frown may I suggest Miss Bettie Page. She may not sing, but she can teach the world to wiggle. and wear high heels with black seamed stockings.

You will find her on here.

  • Jotaman65

    "you complete and utter fuckwit"

Is to the suggestion you should drink milk

or that Dick Cheney is the greatest vice president n the problems of the world is because of limp wristed liberals who do not want to invade small countries n think they can take on the whole Islamic nation n Afghanistan ancient warriors?

I take it your mother made you drink your milk n you never forgave her ever since n hate to be reminded n have no problem with 203207ab who makes perfect sense.

  • Coca Cola makes you sick.

Be clever and drink milk or alcohol.

  • to shitzulovey...you ask what happened to America? well i will tell you...it is liberal hippies like you and this stupid commercial that is letting al queda win. Dick Cheney, our greatest vice president ever, seeks enhanced interrogation so those idiot scumbags who tried to kill us will suffer in pain while we extract information from them. It is people like you and this commercial that don't understand that. screw harmony. We are doing just fine and don't like your idiot comments. we rule.

  • you complete and utter fuckwit!!!!

  • What happened to America?

Well a few thousand years ago Noah had a ship load of animals and their shit and after 40 days there was quite a bit of it. They shoveled it over the side and a a few years later in history Columbus discovered it.

Does that answer the problem to your question. Its what you're based on SHIT.FUCKING LOADS OF IT!!

  • is this a better one? Light a candle everyone or hold up a lighter. Let there be love shared among us, Let there be love in our eyes, May now Your love sweep this nation, Cause us O Lord to arise. Give us a fresh understanding Of brotherly love that is real, Let there be love shared among us, Let there be love. AAAHHHHhhhhhh.... Doesn't that feel better. Don't hug me. I'll stab ya.
  • I doubt anyone cares, but this video brings back wonderul memories - staying at my beloved grandparent's house in Chicago, watching this commercial on TV with them, and singing the song for their enjoyment, the whole time. Life was so beautiful, simple back then.....My life hasn't exactly turned out so well. I wish kids today could see, and appreciate this commercial. The world would be such a better place. What the F** happened? This commercial should be broadcast again. I'm so sad now........

  • I loved this commercial. I agree with bob, America got greedy. Ontop of that,..... Man, don't get me started. Just ask yourself why the Divorce rate in America is 64%? That should tell you what happened to America.

  • so sweet. what happened to America???

  • ahhh back when things were simple 3 to 5 channels via your antenna on tv, no cell phones, ipods. u want 2 know what happened 2 the usa 1 word GREED!!! I have 2 coca cola music boxes 1 from teh franklin mint with polar bear on top of a snow covered earth and 1 from hallmark with the coca cola santa in a snow globe with a little train that goes around. christmas right round the corner cant wait 2 put em out again for about 6 weeks.

  • ARRRR SHAKE ALONG WITH ME

  • Ahhhhh...memories.

  • For you trivia buffs, two of the folks in the original Coke commercial were Rick and Ron Shaw...originally famous as having founded the Brandywine Singers. They later began doing concerts as The Shaw Brothers and went on to write what was adopted as the official state song "New Hampshire Naturally". If you want to hear a great song and watch a beautiful You Tube video check out that song.

  • this ad was a result of the vietnam stuff that happened

  • great video, I'm smiling!

  • actually all of you are wrong....this film was shot in 1969! do your fuckin research!

  • Sorry this was done in 1971.

  • SUPERB

  • PEACE LOVE HARMONY HAPPINESS

  • Late 70's early eighties for sure. Def. no later than eighty two. I remember because I was still believing in santa clause. lol

  • and now we all drink pepsi

  • SHAKERMAKER!!!! fuck drug-a-cola

  • mr sifter sold me songs!!

  • Man,I remember this commercial!

  • Yes they should reissue the very same commercial. Not bring it back in a rap version.

  • Extraordinarily "smart" adv by the C/C Company! The Italian version is absolute CULT in my country: an entire generation identifies it with Christmas atmosphere, as you guys do. We liked so much that on Christmas Eve 2007 ALL our networks aired it once again. Lyrics are slightly different and the adv itself is shorter:

"I'd like to sing together with you all

    in magical harmony,

[exchanging] Christmas greetings, [drinking] a coke and singing in company with [those I love]." 10ks 4 posting!

  • And, oh... by the way: maybe the BEST Christmas mas commercial ever :-)

  • Yeah, I too have missed this commercial at Christmas-time, having enjoyed it as a kid. I didn't know (or don't recall) there were other versions with "it's the real thing" in the harmony...this is the one I remember...and prefer. While it was probably made to boost coke sales, it made (makes) me feel good...and seems to relate a sentiment we've lost...that we should care about one another...one world, peace.

  • i agree totally, take care.......

  • duz it say i'd like to buy the world a coke and keep it company?

  • Yes, the original jingle did say that. However, the writer, a guy by the name of Roquel Billy Davis, remade it into "I'd like to teach the world to sing". You can find the lyrics online, as well as more info on Davis if you care.

  • I remember watching this ad when I was a small child. I miss seeing it every Christmas season. They should bring it back.

  • this great ad couldn't be made the same way today without some skidmark crying about political correctness.

  • It isn't Christmas without this ad :)

  • yep,i love this ad too, brings back a lot of memories!!!

  • I LOVE This song! I remember seeing this on TV as a kid! LOL!

  • I look for this commercial every year at Christmas time, but it never comes on. I was very young when this came out. Thanks so much for posting this. Merry Christmas!!!

  • Such a beautiful song/ad. This one is from my childhood. Wish it were better quality, but thanks a lot for the upload.

  • me tooooooooooooooo..... I was six!

  • I absolutely loved this ad as a kid, and as Coke always sponsored all the Christmas specials for kids,I was assured to see it many times through the season.

vchords I heartedly agree..it is a wonderful sentiment that we should try to carry in our hearts the whole year.

    Merry Christmas!

  • YouTube went wrong because I was trying to reply to that thread and it posted it as a general comment. Glad everyone is so civil on this post. Must have something to do with the commercial. Gee, it's refreshing to deal with nice people ^_^

  • yay! lol

  • This was my favorite Christmas commercial when I was a child, and I think it still is... What a wonderful sentiment; I wish we could carry it in our hearts all year long. I want my childhood innocence back.

  • peace!

  • They used to play this ad every year when I was little, and I just loved it. I wish Coke would re-release this ad.

  • nice song

  • Definetely in the late 70s. The mock football jersery at 30 secs is a dead give-a-way. I had one just like and sadly, I'm an old geezer that went to elementary school during the 70s. Great commercial.

  • Nope, the first version of the song was from February 12, 1971. Later that very same year Coca-Cola made this very famous comercial they called "Hilltop". So: end of 1971, not the late 70's.

  • First version created in 1971 near the end of the Vietnam war to spark good feelings out of a lot of pain. Second version (that of Christmas) was created in 1984 (don't argue with me, I was born in 1986 and recognize the hairstyles and eyeliner) to revive the nostalgia. This particular Christmas commercial brought tears to my parents' eyes. Merry Christmas!

  • Oh yes... besides...

The clothing and hairdo's were not 1984 at all.

And if this was created in 1984 as you state... and you were born two years later... there is hardly a way you can remember any of this. If you *DO* can... pheew... I am awed!

  • On the other hand... you *ARE* right! Ô.ô

I just saw the original 1971 commercial...

    I stand corrected!

    Sorry I doubted you!

  • This commercial was filmed in Rio De Janeiro in 1977 and it was called Hilltop production. I was there...don't argue with me LockedRapunzel :-)

    30th second, top right corner.

  • Hehe, I already said I was mistaking...

Need me to spell it out in blood? ;-)

  • LOL, sorry I really didn't mean to offend you. I was simply clarifying. My deepest apologies to you. But why are you kenninast and lockedrapunzel??? Please, no blood it was just a comment. You shouldn't get so offended.

  • No problem. I am neither offended, nor "lockedrapunzel" :D

But somehow I got a message that says that you did reply that to my post.

    Something went wrong then.

  • He's right, well, almost. The first hilltop is from 1971. Coke recalled this to make a Christmas version which aired Christmas of 1983 AND 1984. This version is not early or late 70s. I was born in 72 and clearly remember this at Christmas 1983/84

  • Just because you remember it from a certain time doesn't mean it didn't air before you saw it. Listen to those who were born before you.

  • The commercial was shot in the 1970's, but not shown in the U.S. until the early 1980's.

  • What year did this commerical come out? I remember singing this song in nursery school. Was there an earlier version or was this the original song?

  • lol i just died laughin omgi'm crying rofl

  • can you see the innocence in their faces? its impossible to reproduce this video now.

  • This was my fave commercial as a kid...they dont make 'em like they used to!

  • wow this just took me back to my childhood. even the comercials were better back then

  • I am grateful that I grew up as a kid in the 70s -I had tons of fun and loved the music and still listen to it 30+ years later. I loved this commercial.

  • I bought the world a Coke once. Don't tell anybody but i pee'd in George Bush's.

  • This is great.. We need to get these times back because our world is far too divided. This brings back many memories of a much better and simpler time.. Thanks so much melanieabalos for posting this...

  • a better song from better times!

  • I remember this commercial as a child. What year was this?

  • the mid to late 1970's i have 2 coca-cola christmas music boxes that plays this song one of the coca-cola santa and one of the polar bears.

  • This commercial aired in 1978..

  • i only 7yrs old when i heard this

  • I'd love to see this commercial in this generation, but in this day and age they'd probably protest because they'd claim that forcing somone to drink a Coke is a means of contributing to one's obesity. We're too damned fixated on political correctness.

  • This was a cool commercial!

  • yes... i understand :|

my life will only be complete when i buy a coke.

    i must leave now.

  • seems to me the time is now to do this again, broadcast on every station
