It's not very hard to go into an open tuning, throw on some delay and start doing a bunch of slap harmonics and make it sound good. He's just ripping off the Michael Hedges and Erik Mongrains of the world, and not doing a very good job of it. And the latter half wasn't incredibly impressive or original either. The delay effect made it sound like he was doing way more then he was. I'm sure this kid has some real skill, but he's just relying on the shock factor rather than playing good music.
@BrighamHB On second view, admittedly his picking speed is really impressive though. But the percussive stuff and slap harmonics still don't do it for me
It amazes and amuses me that people think this style of guitar playing is new and ground breaking. People have been doing it for 20+ years. Check out Michael Hedges, Michael Manring, Tommy Emmanuel, Preston Reed, Stanley Jordan, Michael Berk, Jon Gomm et al and see how it's REALLY done... he's not bad but he should get over the shredding thing.
i am not proud to be born in SA:( Wish i lived there now though:(

A good show of technical ability, but not a real good act.
He should put his talent to work in a single song to make it an act...

@NCYWG
How can you choose a single song when you've got so much more to offer. I'f he had done that he wouldn't have made it into the finals.
