I just saw Patty Griffin performing this song live a few days ago. She said she wrote it in response to a friend who said she didn't write enough "happy songs" ... well then why is it I feel like crying every time I hear it, and I tried reading the lyrics to my husband and got a lump in my throat and had to stop!?!? I guess it's because it reflects such a sweet memory she has of her mother ... and it reminds you of how quickly time passes.
