Hey asshole if you don't like the my American Constitution than fucking leave and find a country that agrees with your communistic sensibilities. How about China, see how long you survive there, literally. If Bush followed the Constitution there'd be no war, same with Barry Soetoro, there'd be no war on Libya. The question we need to ask is who are these elector's, and why do they hide in the shadows?
It was the Democrats who tried to steal the election, stupid. They wanted recount after recount, not the Republicans. They steal elections today. In Wisconsin recently. I will never watch this idiot again! All Democrats are lyers and godless tools of Satan. That is proven by what they support! Sexual perversion, abortion, enslaving the people with Socialism,, Unions, Communist, and most anti American left wing governments. they even support Muslims against Israel! Lyers and Satanic tools!
OMG!!!! This guy is unbelievable!! California and NY and Florida are powerful enough. If you watch this and live in a small state this guy thinks you are not very important.
You're the biggest dumb ass I have and will ever met...."Republican Operatives"...You caught us all right, we GOP have special training grounds for our "operatives". Idiot.
This thinking is Newworld and very much simular to modern liberal media. We are a "Rebublic " bound by OUR Constitution, and NOT " MOB RULED, Democratic in the strict sence." The States give power to the Federal end of government( as intended) Let's get back to our basic foundations and stop giving way to liberal Historical Reconstructionists.
In 2008, candidates concentrated over 2/3rds of their campaign events and ad money in just 6 states, and 98% in just 15 states. The National Popular Vote bill would guarantee the Presidency to the candidate who receives the most popular votes in all 50 states.
Every vote, everywhere, would be politically relevant and equal in presidential elections. Candidates would need to care about voters across the nation, not just undecided voters in a handful of swing states.
In 1789, only 3 states used the winner-take-all rule (awarding all of a state's electoral vote to the candidate who gets the most votes in the state). However, as a result of changes in state laws, the winner-take-all rule is now currently used by 48 of the 50 states. The fact that Maine and Nebraska do not use the winner-take-all rule is a reminder that the Constitution left the matter of awarding electoral votes to the states.

Total Bullshit. So I should get into to this corrupt, broken "game" to change it. The same old song and dance, " If you don't play the game, you can't win." Well fuck you, I don't dance. Especially with creepy, thieving, murdering, scumbag politicans.

Yeah, Yeah, and over 5000 innocent Americans would still be dead and probably many more as attacks on U.S. soil would not have been thwarted. But that doesn't matter to the America hating liberal like the "frankfactor". Constitution not good enough for morons like this, he wants our president decided by New York and Los Angeles. What an elitist moron
fail, our president was decided by virginia, indiana, ohio, north carolina, iowa, new mexico, colorado, nevada, florida and the 2nd congressional district of NEBRASKA!!! Your scare tactics don't work on us anymore!! Fascist! Neo-con nazi! by the way check out the history of europe, Hitler was able to gain power by using scare tactics to convince the German that their livelihoods were at stake to the extent that he decided to wipe out Jews because they were not native to the land. U r a fascist

You call me a fascist based on my argument in favor of the constitution. Thanks for proving my point about America hating liberals. Hitler was a socialist and much closer to the democrats, especially since his ideology is based in lies, just like the democrats. You are an uneducated moron! XD
That's where you are wrong! Just because his party had the socialist tag on it didn't mean he was socialist. In fact, Hitler's Party was a Nationalist party (do you know what that means?) Nationalist parties are always right-wing, that is why he got on very well with Moussolini, the leader of the Fascists in Italy. Those were all right-wing parties! I find it amusing that you right-wing conservatives reject that Obama won in excess of 95 electoral votes. The people have spoken!

The Nazi party platform reads just like the democrat platform. Hitler preached class warfare, agitating the working class to resist "exploitation" by capitalists, particularly Jewish capitalists, of course.Their program called for the nationalization of education, health care, transportation, and other major industries. They instituted and vigorously enforced a strict gun control regimen. They encouraged pornography, illegitimacy, and abortion, and they denounced Christians as right-wing fanatics.
First of all, you have no evidence. Secondly, Hitler wrote in Mein Kampf that the Aryan race was created by the Christian God, and spoke out against Darwin's theory. Also, the motto of the German army was "Gott Mit Uns". Hitler was fascist. He encouraged private enterprise (war profiteers). He also campaigned against science, also in Mein Kampf. He hated Liberalism, which he described as a plague upon the German people (from Mein Kampf).
Secondly, when you people say that health care reform with a public option is taking America to Socialism, I wonder if you knew that all the advanced CAPITALIST countries have universal health care? Imagine that! Our allies UK, Canada, Germany, Italy, France etc. all have universal health care, because they all accepted that health care is a RIGHT to all their citizens and not a privilege. No one should die or go bankrupt after they fall sick because they cannot afford health care!

Sound familiar? If Hitler were alive today, he could win the democrat nomination for president.
Real Americans don't look to Europe as an example of freedom. We are the example of freedom and have the best health care in the world and we want to keep it. 85% of Americans like thier health insurance. We should work on fixing it for the other 15%, not destroy the whole system. What conservatives reject Obama's electoral votes? None! another liberal lie. we just know that he was a mistake.
You are starting to sound like you have lost your marbles. Do you know about Hitler or do you get all your facts and history from Beck and Palin? Hitler hated anyone who wasn't white, he tried to wipe out the Jews, Gypsies and gays in Europe and you think he would have let off blacks and latinos? You certainly live in an alternate universe.

Aren't you the Historically challenged little moron! There is nothing that you have said that disproves that the Nazi party platform is just like the democrats. You obviously have no clue about the cause of the civil war, you are just embarrassing yourself with your ignorance. Same with your lack of knowledge of the public option. And the "Peanuts Christmas Special" would have been more enlightening than Obama's incoherent rantings. Talk about an idiot! You morons are too easy! XD
The person who is lacking in historical perspective and knowledge about what's actually going on versus what Beck/Faux Noise says is you!! The civil war was about the confederate states asserting their 'independence' from a federal gov't that 'imposed' 'unconstitutional' laws on them, one of them being the abolition of slavery. However, seeing that I am corresponding with a far-right bigot, I know there is no way on earth you will see the light, so I'll leave you to your tea bagging ways.
Bigot? really? that's what you come up with? I prove that the democrats have the same ideology as the Nazi's and you call me a bigot? do you see how pathetic you are? It was Republicans like Lincoln, who freed the slaves it was the democrats that were fighting to keep slavery and still are, only it is slavery to government dependence instead of cotton profits.
It was liberal/progressive Republicans that sought to end slavery and conservative, right wing democrats that opposed that. Why do you think the Democrat's base was in the south during the 19th and early 20th century. But when liberals flooded the Democrat party and tried to pass the civil rights act, they lost the South to conservative Republicans that opposed the law.Second of all you did not show how nazi's and dems are similar only that you get all your information from Beck/Palin/Faux news.
It was Republicans that passed all of the civil Rights act from the 1860's to today. It was democrats that tried to block them including Al Gore Sr. and Robert Byrd,(a leader in the KKK) who is still a popular democrat today. You are so pathetic. You deny the facts and think if you mention Beck/Palin/Faux news, you win the argument. You are a typical example of the stupid democrat. You are a racist and you are too stupid to know it. XD
No you have to check your facts, the point is the republicans who abolished slavery were liberals and the democrats who opposed it were conservatives. Before the 60's liberals were purged from the republican party while conservatives fled the democrat party and joined the Gop. Please try to read anything other than your right wing pamphlets to find out who passed the Civil rights act! JFK and RFK advocated for it and we all know what happened to them. Civil rights act was passed by Dems!!
JFK didn't pass anything, he was dead. MLK had to drag JFK and RFK kicking and screaming all the way until they finally read the writing on the wall. Racist democrats didn't join the Republicans, they became blue dogs and supported George Wallace. Larger percentage of Republicans voted for civil rights than democrats all through history. It was dems like Al Gore Sr and Byrd that filibustered to stop them, not Republicans. You are very ignorant of history. (what a surprise)
Wrong again, where do you get this stuff?kicking and screaming!!Why do you think LBJ said after the liberal Democrats voted for the civil rights act that the Democratic party had lost the South?Majority of Southern whites were not happy at all with the Democrats for voting for the CRA and so they turned to the Republican party that was now dominated by right wing conservatives! You need to go to a library and actually read about the history of the political parties & not get it from Faux noise
No, not wrong. The racist democrats became blue dogs. Why would racist join the party of Lincoln that has led the fights for civil rights? You really don't have a clue about your racist party and how they exploit minorities! Why is it that Africans come to this country and experience no racism and prosper? Because they don't buy into the democrats victim platform and patronizing "you can't do it without us" mentality.
You seriously need to research about your party!! The republican party now is NOT Lincoln's republican party of the 1860's! It has been filled with conservatives and abandoned by liberal/progressives of whom Lincoln was among. Google the southern strategy to see how republican courted the racist southerners vote. Find out what Limbaugh and Beck say about black people, then you'll know what the republican party is about!
Republicans did not court racists, thats a liberal myth. Republicans were the party of the upwardly mobile, more socially conservative, openly patriotic middle-class, not of white solidarity. I know what Limbaugh and Beck say about black people, it is obvious that you do not. MLK was a republican and voted for Eisenhower and Nixon. He had to work with JFK and RFK and Johnson, because those were the people he had to convince, the republicans were already on board with civil rights.
Once again a right winger is caught spreading lies!! How could MLK vote for Nixon yet he was assassinated before the 1968 elections? Do you know what Nixon said about Black people and interracial marriages? Please use the internet to educate yourself rather than spread fallacies. The truth is the conservatives courted the white racist southerner's vote after liberals/progressives passed the Civil Rights Act. It's no surprise that your business is lies, you're a right winger after all.
Once again a socialist moron exposed for the moron that he is, Nixon was Eisenhower's Vice President. I know that Johnson refereed to MLK as "that Nigger preacher" You should pull your head out of your ass and take a breath once and a while. You are the only one spreading lies (and stupidity), you are a socialist after all.

"The South is serious with regard to its attitude to the Negro in politics. The South understands this subject, and its policy is unalterable and uncompromising. We desire no concessions. Thank you for researching and coming up with these quotes meant to show that these people are in actual fact racist however, ask yourself how many whites hold prejudicial views against blacks? A large proportion. The democrats may encompass a number of them but we all know that a large majority of them are republican based on their staunchly conservative views. If we were to provide racist quotes from Republicans, we would need thousands of books.
You are so full of shit and you know it. You can not even give an example of republican racism. You are a racist that supports racists to keep minorities in their place. The Ghetto, dependent on government and voting democrat. What a pathetic ideology
Explain to me why Nixon, though a conservative against abortion was recorded saying that he thought abortions of interracial babies was necessary? Many of the quotes you are providing are from a long gone era, when the democratic party still had many conservatives and also many of these politicians are from the South, is it any surprise that they'd be racist. Most white southerners today still are racist.Ask any black person who lives their, all of them have experienced racial abuse of some sort.
Yeah, some are from the past, some are recent, some are from the south, some are from the north, east, and west. But what they all have in common is, they are all Democrats! Racists then, Racists now, always will be.
"These Negroes, they're getting pretty uppity these days and that's a problem for us since they've got something now they never had before, the political pull to back up their uppityness. Now we've got to do something about this, we've got to give them a little something, just enough to quiet them down, not enough to make a difference.
For if we don't move at all, then their allies will line up against us and there'll be no way of stopping them, we'll lose the filibuster and there'll be no way of putting a brake on all sorts of wild legislation. It'll be Reconstruction all over again."
"I do not think it is an exaggeration at all to say to my friend from West Virginia [Sen. Robert C. Byrd, a former Ku Klux Klan recruiter] that he would have been a great senator at any moment. . . . He would have been right during the great conflict of civil war in this nation."

I am not now nor ever have been in favor of making voters or jurors of Negroes, nor of qualifying them to hold office, nor of intermarriages with white people. There is a physical difference between the white and the black races which will forever forbid the two races living together on social or political equality.
There must be a position of superior and inferior, and I am in favor of assigning the superior position to the white man." - Abraham Lincoln. Back then, everyone was racist, you yourself are using quotes from a bigone era. Anyway, most of your modern quotes don't mean anything. They maybe be edgy, but not nearly as racist as some quotes from Republicans.
Teabaggers fly the confederate flag, do you know what that means? The confederate states broke off from the USA because they refused to ban slavery, what repect of the constitution is that! people who fly that flag long to be independent from the federal gov;t to do whatever they want even if it means abusing the civil rights of minorities. The public Option is an OPTION, we want it because we are tired of being charged high premiums and then dropped when we fall sick
A republican mayor in Tennessee called Russel Wiseman wrote on his facebook page that the constitution only allowed people with property to vote and that if that were still the case things would have been different. He had just finished rantin about how Obama's afghanistan speech that interrupted a peanuts xmas special on abc meant he was a muslim who hated xmas. Imagine that, republicans don't believe that everyone has the right to vote!!! No surprise there!
So If I submit to the "Government Option", the government will tell me what medical treatment I am entitled to?(that which they subsidize, they can regulate). So if I were a smoker, I may not get that lung that I need? If I don't eat the right food, I might not get the cholesterol medicine I need? If I drink, I may not get that Kidney that I need? suppose I just turned 90 and need a new hip, Is my short life expectancy worth the expenditure? Oh, I wish I were in the land of cotton...retard!
* "There's less than 1% of the population of Iowa that is African American. There is probably less than 4% or 5% that is, are minorities. What is it in Washington? So look, it goes back to what you start off with, what you're dealing with."

Seriously! How does this pertain to racism! Maybe you can ask Senator Sessions of Alabama why when he was a US attorney in Alabama he called a black Deputy attorney 'boy' and warned him to "watch how he talks to white people". Ask him why he told a white civil rights lawyer why he called him a "disgrace to his race". Not all conservatives are bigots but all most bigots are conservatives.
Those were unsubstantiated allegations made by democrats during his confimation hearings, which he denies and have never been proven. You are insane, most blacks are conservative. Conservatism is not racist, but liberal progressives (democrats) prove their racism over and over again
Just how retarded are you? Hitler was a socialists and there is practacally no difference between the Democrat platform and the Nazi platform. MLK voted for Ike and Nixon for president.
You are about the stupidest liberal I have ever seen. XD
Quit throwing out the socialist/nazi/fasict/communist derogatory remarks. It does nothing to help your argument, and everything to hinder its progress and set it going the other way.
No, you are the stupid one, if you believe my statements to be false, then prove it. Also, if you believe that southern states are "backwards ass" then that is just more evidence of you stupidity and naivete. You really are pathetic. XD
You, sir, are nothing at all like Elendil. You need to read the Silmarillion and actually learn what kind of King he was in that story. It would do you the greatest of good.
I am sure that you have seen Senator Barbara Boxers comments to Harry C. Alford, the CEO of the National Black Chamber of Commerce, How patronizing and racist was that? You need to wake up! Your stupidity is infantile!
If Hitler were alive today, then the crazy right wingers in your party would rally behind him. By the way, what polls are you using? I bet you just made those figures up.
America is both a democracy and a republic, the two are not mutually exclusive. Ancient Greece had a direct democracy the USA has an indirect democracy, its not less democratic its just a different kind of democracy. If the US was not a democracy there would be no elections. The citizens elect representatives by majority vote, thats democracy.
I am highly in favor of a popular vote which would represent a true democracy. We have a republic, not a democracy. The founding fathers were worried about two things: people voting without knowledge of who they were voting for, and the states only voting for their own candidate. We have access to instant information (including disinformation), so I believe it is time to switch. The president would better represent the people (rather than the corporations & lobbyists).
Wrong, it was designed to give the smaller states more power to get them to join the union. By that logic then we should just get rid of the senate, since it doesn't represent democracy either. Why can't California have ten times as many senators as Wyoming. After all more people live there.
I wanted to learn about the electoral voting process. Instead I'm hearing a bunch of crazy pro-Republican and Pro-Democrat bullcrap.
Look, real christians don't support Bush or McCain, cause they are for arming the radical muslim KLA, they helped establish a Muslim Republic in Iraq. ANd Obama seems to pat Bush and McCain on the back for their support in destroying Kosovo and Iraq and Ossetia
HOW COULD 99% OF OUR HOUSE & SENATE vote for the WAR(s)...???? Are they THAT gullible? If it was such a lie, why are we still there? They haven't found WMD, just like they haven't found murders. Got the dead body, no killer. See the video (Neflix) "Voice of Iraq" where the people tell "we couldn't do anything about Saddam, but we can do something about our resulting current problems." Until the world dignifies the unborn, there is no "humanitarian heart" in unity.
While a non-voting citizen has no guaranteed right at this time other than to (within this system) push towards their preferred presidential candidates inauguration to the White House by voting, a man of your seeming understanding would be hard pressed to deny that the current system is
With an electoral college our votes may count, but electorates also may vote for whomever they wish without penalty. Electorates being human are obviously subject to an array of influences, only one of which is the popular vote.
I submit that, since voting fails to deny the possibility of interception committed by the college, a citizens political efforts are better spent in attempt to change the constitutional article that provides an electoral college and in fact not to "go out and vote."
The deception laid forth by the perpetuated notion that if one doesn't vote then one has no right to "bitch" (as it were) presupposes the idea that to complain is ones post-election goal (not that I'm suggesting that you've ever specifically said that).
While I'll concede that a political party should be free to utilize delegates if the party so chooses, a nations democracy is undeniably stunted when it's citizens popular vote is not the deciding measure in selection for a candidates presidency.
I respect what you're doing to a degree but I must also ask, why are you not using your publicly viewed videos to instead provide instruction as to how the average citizen might go about making strides in the elimination of the college? (that is, since you make videos on the related topic)
While a non-voting citizen has no guaranteed right at this time other than to (within this system) push towards their preferred presidential candidates inauguration to the White House by voting, a man of your seeming understanding would be hard pressed to deny that the current system is analogous to a child having to at times ask
While a non-voting citizen has no guaranteed right at this time other than to (within this system) push towards their preferred presidential candidates inauguration to the White House by voting, a man of your seeming understanding would be hard pressed to deny that the current system is analogous to a child having to at times ask (without definite weight)its guardians permission for say in the very management of said family unit.
Ever since I was a little girl, I thought the Electoral College should be done away with. I always thought that my vote should count equally with everyone else's. It just seemed so antiquated. I could understand at the time of its inception, its use probably made a lot of sense. With more thought it seemed like they just wanted to keep power out of the people's hands.
After watching vids of some real people on here, I say let's keep it. Let my vote only be equal to a Republican vote in NY.
If the electoral college is not seated by Senators or Representatives, Then who are these state appointed people? Are they Lawyers, Judges, Business Men & Women? Does anyone know? Can I be on the electoral college? The troubling part is that these people are NOT REQUIRED to vote as the majority in their state did. Unless you trust these APPOINTED people who you do not vote for and don't know, your vote for the president doesn't count for shit.
On the filp side the electors can vote against the majority in their area, as they should be able to, that is the point. If the electors had to vote the will of the people than there would be no need for them, and majority would rule. That would be bad in the case of oh say 50 million illegal immigrants coming from mexico having children here, those kids turn against the country, claiming that say the u.s. stole this land from mexico, and by majority vote sent u back 2 Europe. It could happen.
No, it couldn't. That's the most ridiculous, tinfoil hat idea I've ever heard. 50 million Mexicans operating in synchronous with a plan that spans almost 2 decades to get their future children to destroy America??? You must be joking...
Most people have trouble getting their kids to eat vegetables.
Get involved in politics locally, then you and people like you could be electors!!!!
This Frank guy is a typical wise guy liberal...Wah Wah Wah it's not fair, majority must rule....bullshit, this is a republic not a democracy!! Electors get there because they are active in local politics, They like frank said are elected on a local level by central committees of the respetive party. So they are voting the concious of the people in there areas.
This is not a democracy. It is a republic. Popular votes elect representatives. The electoral college ensures that smaller, less populous states still have a voice. Those of us priveleged to live in the vast wilderness that still makes up much of America like it fine. Why should we change it for those disgruntled people unfortunate enough to live in overcrowded areas? Maybe the "Union" might be better divided into several countries, one for liberals, conservatives, and independents, et al.
I still don't agree with this indirect system of democracy. Why do we need electors to cast the vote on our behalf? Why do we need this arbitrary institution between the people and the president? If every eligible person votes and votes are counted in their entirety why is it that over a million votes need to be condensed into 538 (or 270)? These votes effect ALL of America. ALL individual votes should count, not just the "swing states" and the more populous ones.
The EC is no more arbitrary a system for electing a PotUS than is Congress for passing laws and budgets; they're both elected by the people. What really skews it is the winner-take-all racket by which the Big Two Parties hijacked it. In 48 states (and DC) they bet to win all a state's electors by winning the minimal statewide majority. It's why the Dems never called for reform after the 2000 Fiasco. Recounts, yes, but never reform.
The real problem with the Florida recount in 2000 wasn't the hanging chads and butterfly ballots but something more abstract - the winner-take all rule which awarded all 25 Florida electors to Bush.
ME and NE choose their electors differently - only two statewide, the rest by congressional district. If FL had this in 2000 then any recount would have had only 3 electors at stake. Bush would have received only 14 electors when he needed 24 to win. Gore would have won the election.
I've no idea; I haven't looked that up. My point is that winner-take-all put too many eggs into one Florida basket. A vote-by-district rule would not only have awarded the electorships much more fairly but would also have limited the number of electors at stake in a recount - effectively, separated them into 25 separate baskets.
Hey, thanks for looking that up. That makes sense: greedy congresspeople always split districts along party lines cause it protects incumbents -- one of the few things they can all agree on.
Personally, I would prefer approval voting with most votes winning. There would be no such thing as "spoiler" candidates and candidates would have to target the center, not pander to their respective bases.
What if no one gets a majority of popular votes? Do you have a run-off among the top two or three, or just declare the top vote-getter the winner? The 2002 French election had a runoff between the top two after no candidate could break 40%. A Mexican president a few years back won on 39% of the vote.
I see the theoretical merit of a popular vote but the EC is a surer way of coming up with a majority winner. What I dislike are both the ignorance and the corrupting of it.
Also, Congress doesn't determine congressional districts; the state legislatures do that.
Also also, Omaha has gone for Obama so, since Nebraska splits its electors, there may put a touch of blue in a state of red. I'll be intersting to see if Nebraska changes to winner-take-all by 2012.
but look at it this way, if you're in texas like me, then the republicans have won here since 1976. I don't expect it to change very soon. it would almost make more sense for me to vote in new mexico
how do we konw that if al gore had been president after 9/11 he wouldnt of sent us to war too? i mean everyone is pissed as bush for going to war but he was only president for a year and i think gore would have gone to war too to be honest.
I'm sorry but this whole concept, of the electoral college, is preposterous. thank you for doing this video. It just goes to further prove that our government is a sham.
Were you living under a rock during the 2000 election? The popular vote went to Gore, yet Bush won the election. So tell me, how the hell does that make your statement true?
the electoral college made sense when our founding fathers created it and it makes sense today. they were very forward thinking back then cause they knew the country would grow. the arguement then and it stills is a good one was that if they just went by popular vote, the NY colony would always pick the President. It had the most population. Today, California, Illinois, and NY would pick our President due to the large cities. Look at the electoral maps. The Dems are close just with those states.
It made sense back then, but not anymore. The electoral college disproportionately favors the Republican party, that is a FACT. You are correct about a popular vote not being any better, but trust me the electoral college is counterproductive in this day and age. The foreclosure signs on the lawns of many Americans' homes is a good indication that the system no longer works. Bush should have never been president, and the proof is in the recession!
It makes even more sense today with the huge population in New York and California. How can the electoral college favor the Republicans? Because they won? What's counterproductive is my vote in Illinois meaning nothing with Chicago in my state. Would we be making these comments or even having a video about the electoral college if Gore had won Florida or some other state in 2000? I think not.
The Democrats caused this disaster while Bush tried to keep this from happening. Get the facts right.
How did Bush try to stop this from happening? By favoring the rich with his tax cuts? Maybe he tried to stop it through insider trading of Harken Energy stocks in the 90s. How about the Iraq war? $550 billion dollars were better spent on Iraq than the economy right? And the electoral college does favor red states, didn't you watch the video? The electoral vote to population ratio is a lot higher in red states, 3x higher in some cases. Maybe you should get the facts right.
You and this idiot in the video talk as though the 'red states' are always red. Red, blue, it doesn't matter. I would advise you to go look at the history of the electoral college. The so called 'red states' were blue during the Carter years. Didn't hear anyone complain then. How did bush try to stop this? He pushed Congress to regulate Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac several times since 2001. McCain cosponsored a bill to regulate them but the Dems blocked it. I have my facts straight.
Face it, Bush is a FUCK UP! 418 vacation days since he has been president. That is more than a year long vacation! If I took that many days off I would get fired! You're a typical Republican, you only see your party, you never look at the candidate or the issues. You would vote Hitler into office provided he had a button with an elephant pinned on his lapel. Thank goodness your vote doesn't mean shit!
Haha, vacation days. You talk as though he works in a factory. The POTUS is at work wherever he is. No, Hitler is on the Democratic ticket. He controls the media, doesn't allow people to say things contrary to his beliefs takes the money from companies to distribute or use as he wishes.
Ah I see you're Canadian. Then why am I wasting my time. This is none of your business anyway...
The electoral college, to be frank, is outdated and corrupt. This is why the Electoral College needs to be abolished in favor of the popular vote immediately. One cannot say it "favors" one party or another. Either major party could benefit from its abolition
the constitution isnt outdated, some of its ideas are. slavery, voting rights, are just a couple of examples that everyone would agree are outdated. The constitution is an outline of how to run a country, not a rigid document. It can be changed, and rightfully so.
slavery and voting rights are outdated? first of all, show me in the constitution anything about slavery. The only mention of slavery is the 13th amendment. I would not consider the right of blacks and women to vote outdated.
umm the constitution says slaves shall count as 2/3 of a person as it pertains to the census..there is a reason there had to be an amendment to the constitution..because it was in the constitution. And the constitution originally said only men who owned land could vote. This, over time, has proved to be outdated. Now, blacks and women can vote
Though, the right of women to vote is not originally in the constitution, it first appears with the 19th amendment. Thereby proving exactly what flylike said: the constitution can be changed. And like you have said, such a change can be for the better, as the 19th amendment expanded the franchise to women. If there was a system of direct election for the president, maybe voter registration wouldn't be an issue; a marginal victory in a state wouldn't send all of that state's electors your way.
Outdated, no; corrupt, yes. What really corrupts the EC is the winner-take-all racket by wich the Big Two parties hijacked it in 48 states and DC. They bet two win all a state's electors with the minimal statewide majority. This was the real cause of the 2000 Fiasco, and is why the Democrats never called for reform after that. Recounts, yes, but never reform.
Btw, enough people like the EC to keep it in place. Better to aim for reform than outright abolishment.
i was conversing with my aunt about this, they tught us about the electoral vote in the fith grade(1988) i thought they taught everyone this, i did'nt know that they wasn't learning this in the 40's and 50's
I don't think this law ever made sense. It just seems like another way to scam voters to me. indirect voting, how do we call ourselves a democracy? honestly.

Look no matter how anyone tries to explain it, the simple and plain fact is: All our votes DO NOT effect the election.

bluegsp 2 years ago

They encouraged pornography, illegitimacy, and abortion, and they denounced Christians as right-wing fanatics.
bluegsp 2 years ago
First of all, you have no evidence. Secondly, Hitler wrote in Mein Kampf that the Aryan race was created by the Christian God, and spoke out against Darwin's theory. Also, the motto of the German army was "Gott Mit Uns". Hitler was fascist. He encouraged private enterprise (war profiteers). He also campaigned against science, also in Mein Kampf. He hated Liberalism, which he described as a plague upon the German people (from Mein Kampf).
Elendil176 2 years ago

None! another liberal lie. we just know that he was a mistake.

bluegsp 2 years ago
The person who is lacking in historical perspective and knowledge about what's actually going on versus what Beck/Faux Noise says is you!! The civil war was about the confederate states asserting their 'independence' from a federal gov't that 'imposed' 'unconstitutional' laws on them, one of them being the abolition of slavery. However, seeing that I am corresponding with a far-right bigot, I know there is no way on earth you will see the light, so I'll leave you to your tea bagging ways.
ugboy1 2 years ago
Bigot? really? that's what you come up with? I prove that the democrats have the same ideology as the Nazi's and you call me a bigot? do you see how pathetic you are? It was Republicans like Lincoln, who freed the slaves it was the democrats that were fighting to keep slavery and still are, only it is slavery to government dependence instead of cotton profits.
bluegsp 2 years ago
It was liberal/progressive Republicans that sought to end slavery and conservative, right wing democrats that opposed that. Why do you think the Democrat's base was in the south during the 19th and early 20th century. But when liberals flooded the Democrat party and tried to pass the civil rights act, they lost the South to conservative Republicans that opposed the law.Second of all you did not show how nazi's and dems are similar only that you get all your information from Beck/Palin/Faux news.
ugboy1 2 years ago
It was Republicans that passed all of the civil Rights act from the 1860's to today. It was democrats that tried to block them including Al Gore Sr. and Robert Byrd,(a leader in the KKK) who is still a popular democrat today. You are so pathetic. You deny the facts and think if you mention Beck/Palin/Faux news, you win the argument. You are a typical example of the stupid democrat. You are a racist and you are too stupid to know it. XD
bluegsp 2 years ago
No you have to check your facts, the point is the republicans who abolished slavery were liberals and the democrats who opposed it were conservatives. Before the 60's liberals were purged from the republican party while conservatives fled the democrat party and joined the Gop. Please try to read anything other than your right wing pamphlets to find out who passed the Civil rights act! JFK and RFK advocated for it and we all know what happened to them. Civil rights act was passed by Dems!!
ugboy1 2 years ago
JFK didn't pass anything, he was dead. MLK had to drag JFK and RFK kicking and screaming all the way until they finally read the writing on the wall. Racist democrats didn't join the Republicans, they became blue dogs and supported George Wallace. Larger percentage of Republicans voted for civil rights than democrats all through history. It was dems like Al Gore Sr and Byrd that filibustered to stop them, not Republicans. You are very ignorant of history. (what a surprise)
bluegsp 2 years ago
Wrong again, where do you get this stuff?kicking and screaming!!Why do you think LBJ said after the liberal Democrats voted for the civil rights act that the Democratic party had lost the South?Majority of Southern whites were not happy at all with the Democrats for voting for the CRA and so they turned to the Republican party that was now dominated by right wing conservatives! You need to go to a library and actually read about the history of the political parties & not get it from Faux noise
ugboy1 2 years ago
No, not wrong. The racist democrats became blue dogs. Why would racist join the party of Lincoln that has led the fights for civil rights? You really don't have a clue about your racist party and how they exploit minorities! Why is it that Africans come to this country and experience no racism and prosper? Because they don't buy into the democrats victim platform and patronizing "you can't do it without us" mentality.
bluegsp 2 years ago
You seriously need to research about your party!! The republican party now is NOT Lincoln's republican party of the 1860's! It has been filled with conservatives and abandoned by liberal/progressives of whom Lincoln was among. Google the southern strategy to see how republican courted the racist southerners vote. Find out what Limbaugh and Beck say about black people, then you'll know what the republican party is about!
ugboy1 2 years ago
Republicans did not court racists, thats a liberal myth. Republicans were the party of the upwardly mobile, more socially conservative, openly patriotic middle-class, not of white solidarity. I know what Limbaugh and Beck say about black people, it is obvious that you do not. MLK was a republican and voted for Eisenhower and Nixon. He had to work with JFK and RFK and Johnson, because those were the people he had to convince, the republicans were already on board with civil rights.
bluegsp 2 years ago
Once again a right winger is caught spreading lies!! How could MLK vote for Nixon yet he was assassinated before the 1968 elections? Do you know what Nixon said about Black people and interracial marriages? Please use the internet to educate yourself rather than spread fallacies. The truth is the conservatives courted the white racist southerner's vote after liberals/progressives passed the Civil Rights Act. It's no surprise that your business is lies, you're a right winger after all.

In a democracy you only need to convince a simple majority of the merits of your position for it to be made policy.
Adolf Hitler came to power under just such a system, without breaking any laws at all.
Careful what you wish for, lest your wish be granted.

America is both a democracy and a republic, the two are not mutually exclusive. Ancient Greece had a direct democracy the USA has an indirect democracy, its not less democratic its just a different kind of democracy. If the US was not a democracy there would be no elections. The citizens elect representatives by majority vote, thats democracy.
kcintoeaaoza 3 years ago 2
I am highly in favor of a popular vote which would represent a true democracy. We have a republic, not a democracy. The founding fathers were worried about two things: people voting without knowledge of who they were voting for, and the states only voting for their own candidate. We have access to instant information (including disinformation), so I believe it is time to switch. The president would better represent the people (rather than the corporations & lobbyists).
kmhutter 3 years ago 2
Wrong, it was designed to give the smaller states more power to get them to join the union. By that logic then we should just get rid of the senate, since it doesn't represent democracy either. Why can't California have ten times as many senators as Wyoming. After all more people live there.

Our compliance within this system may likely yield momentum to it's continuity; I ask, "how could our compliance yield change?".

With an electoral college our votes may count, but electorates also may vote for whomever they wish without penalty. Electorates being human are obviously subject to an array of influences, only one of which is the popular vote.
daltydodo 3 years ago
I submit that, since voting fails to deny the possibility of interception committed by the college, a citizens political efforts are better spent in attempt to change the constitutional article that provides an electoral college and in fact not to "go out and vote."
daltydodo 3 years ago
The deception laid forth by the perpetuated notion that if one doesn't vote then one has no right to "bitch" (as it were) presupposes the idea that to complain is ones post-election goal (not that I'm suggesting that you've ever specifically said that).

It could happen.
kunkle187 3 years ago

No, it couldn't. That's the most ridiculous, tinfoil hat idea I've ever heard. 50 million Mexicans operating in synchronous with a plan that spans almost 2 decades to get their future children to destroy America??? You must be joking...

So they are voting the concious of the people in there areas.
kunkle187 3 years ago

ALL individual votes should count, not just the "swing states" and the more populous ones.
daitlist 3 years ago
daitlist,
The EC is no more arbitrary a system for electing a PotUS than is Congress for passing laws and budgets; they're both elected by the people.
WhiteCamry 3 years ago
The real problem with the Florida recount in 2000 wasn't the hanging chads and butterfly ballots but something more abstract - the winner-take all rule which awarded all 25 Florida electors to Bush.
ME and NE choose their electors differently - only two statewide, the rest by congressional district. If FL had this in 2000 then any recount would have had only 3 electors at stake. Bush would have received only 14 electors when he needed 24 to win. Gore would have won the election.
WhiteCamry 3 years ago
"Bush would have received only 14 electors when he needed 24 to win. Gore would have won the election. "
Does that still hold true if you applied the split-the-electors rule to all states?
miketwo345 3 years ago
I've no idea; I haven't looked that up. My point is that winner-take-all put too many eggs into one Florida basket. A vote-by-district rule would not only have awarded the electorships much more fairly but would also have limited the number of electors at stake in a recount - effectively, separated them into 25 separate baskets.
WhiteCamry 3 years ago
On further research, National Popular Vote says that a vote-by-district system would have won the 2000 election for Bush, 288-250.
WhiteCamry 3 years ago
Hey, thanks for looking that up. That makes sense: greedy congresspeople always split districts along party lines cause it protects incumbents -- one of the few things they can all agree on.
Personally, I would prefer approval voting with most votes winning. There would be no such thing as "spoiler" candidates and candidates would have to target the center, not pander to their respective bases.
miketwo345 3 years ago
What if no one gets a majority of popular votes? Do you have a run-off among the top two or three, or just declare the top vote-getter the winner? The 2002 French election had a runoff between the top two after no candidate could break 40%. A Mexican president a few years back won on 39% of the vote.
I see the theoretical merit of a popular vote but the EC is a surer way of coming up with a majority winner. What I dislike are both the ignorance and the corrupting of it.
WhiteCamry 3 years ago
Also, Congress doesn't determine congressional districts; the state legislatures do that.
Also also, Omaha has gone for Obama so, since Nebraska splits its electors, there may put a touch of blue in a state of red. I'll be intersting to see if Nebraska changes to winner-take-all by 2012.

Were you living under a rock during the 2000 election? The popular vote went to Gore, yet Bush won the election. So tell me, how the hell does that make your statement true?
Ikoris 3 years ago
the electoral college made sense when our founding fathers created it and it makes sense today. they were very forward thinking back then cause they knew the country would grow. the arguement then and it stills is a good one was that if they just went by popular vote, the NY colony would always pick the President. It had the most population. Today, California, Illinois, and NY would pick our President due to the large cities. Look at the electoral maps. The Dems are close just with those states.
firejack007 3 years ago
It made sense back then, but not anymore. The electoral college disproportionately favors the Republican party, that is a FACT. You are correct about a popular vote not being any better, but trust me the electoral college is counterproductive in this day and age. The foreclosure signs on the lawns of many Americans' homes is a good indication that the system no longer works. Bush should have never been president, and the proof is in the recession!
Ikoris 3 years ago 2
It makes even more sense today with the huge population in New York and California. How can the electoral college favor the Republicans? Because they won? What's counterproductive is my vote in Illinois meaning nothing with Chicago in my state. Would we be making these comments or even having a video about the electoral college if Gore had won Florida or some other state in 2000? I think not.
The Democrats caused this disaster while Bush tried to keep this from happening. Get the facts right.
firejack007 3 years ago
How did Bush try to stop this from happening? By favoring the rich with his tax cuts? Maybe he tried to stop it through insider trading of Harken Energy stocks in the 90s. How about the Iraq war? $550 billion dollars were better spent on Iraq than the economy right? And the electoral college does favor red states, didn't you watch the video? The electoral vote to population ratio is a lot higher in red states, 3x higher in some cases. Maybe you should get the facts right.
Ikoris 3 years ago
You and this idiot in the video talk as though the 'red states' are always red. Red, blue, it doesn't matter. I would advise you to go look at the history of the electoral college. The so called 'red states' were blue during the Carter years. Didn't hear anyone complain then. How did bush try to stop this? He pushed Congress to regulate Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac several times since 2001. McCain cosponsored a bill to regulate them but the Dems blocked it. I have my facts straight.

Thank goodness your vote doesn't mean shit!

Ah I see you're Canadian. Then why am I wasting my time. This is none of your business anyway...
firejack007 3 years ago
The electoral college, to be frank, is outdated and corrupt. This is why the Electoral College needs to be abolished in favor of the popular vote immediately. One cannot say it "favors" one party or another. Either major party could benefit from its abolition
flylike1 3 years ago
Have you not been watching any news? The voting and registration process is corrupt and broken.
To say the electoral college is outdated is to say the constitution and declaration of independence is also out dated. Should we abolishe them also?
firejack007 3 years ago
the constitution isnt outdated, some of its ideas are. slavery, voting rights, are just a couple of examples that everyone would agree are outdated. The constitution is an outline of how to run a country, not a rigid document. It can be changed, and rightfully so.
flylike1 3 years ago
slavery and voting rights are outdated? first of all, show me in the constitution anything about slavery. The only mention of slavery is the 13th amendment. I would not consider the right of blacks and women to vote outdated.
firejack007 3 years ago
umm the constitution says slaves shall count as 2/3 of a person as it pertains to the census..there is a reason there had to be an amendment to the constitution..because it was in the constitution. And the constitution originally said only men who owned land could vote. This, over time, has proved to be outdated. Now, blacks and women can vote
flylike1 3 years ago
Though, the right of women to vote is not originally in the constitution, it first appears with the 19th amendment. Thereby proving exactly what flylike said: the constitution can be changed. And like you have said, such a change can be for the better, as the 19th amendment expanded the franchise to women. If there was a system of direct election for the president, maybe voter registration wouldn't be an issue; a marginal victory in a state wouldn't send all of that state's electors your way.
Viljarism 3 years ago
flylike1,
Outdated, no; corrupt, yes. Btw, enough people like the EC to keep it in place. Better to aim for reform than outright abolishment.
