Actually i'd have to say Goldeneye 007 on the N64 was the game that changed console first person shooters. NOT Halo since goldeneye predates halo by about 4 years. before Goldeneye, first person shooters on console were complete garbage. goldeneye had 4 player split screen deathmatch which was unheard of at the time and it's use of the n64's analog stick made paved the way for console shooters.

Halo did revolutionise the modern fps. It was the first to include balanced vehicles, a flying mechnic for the banshee and hornet, it was the first to have forge, varied cusom game creation and theater, and it is one of the only games i know of which encourages the notion that everything you do has a big consequence and the late game. Like when i parked a warthog somewhere because i saw a laser had spawned, in the later part of the game it was used to transport a flag carrier.
