I'm a male and I wasn't insulted by this commercial at all... I gotta be honest, I don't really care what the paint on a room is. As long as the color isn't hot pink or "bacon colored" or something that assaults the senses, I could really care less. It's not that men aren't detail oriented, we just fixate on different details than women.
I don't really have a sense of style about things, but I was an art major and I understand complimentary colors. That's about the extent of my knowledge.
This is such clever marketing, but ultimately it's insulting to men, and as a consequence, to women. Does CIL disagree with the following statement?
"We think men are too stupid and manly to decide on a colour with their partner because the old names are the problem. Therefore, we've kept the same colours and changed the names to manipulate these men because we think they need to be manipulated."
Let's keep perpetuating the "war of the sexes"! *high fives around the boardroom*
@justoneHumanist Completely agree. This is so insulting to both men and women. It's ads like these that keep perpetuating gender roles and stereotypes. We really need to grow out of this debilitating War of the Sexes thing that's been going on for too long now.
@Yorel88 It's doing both. They are making fun of gender roles, but by doing so they are still taking advantage of it and using it to their benefit. I see that they are trying to prove a point and get people to start talking about it, which is good, but they are still very much perpetuating it. They're just being a LOT more obvious and open about it than other marketing campaigns.
This is a good example of Poe's Law. I can't tell if this advertisement is a parody poking fun at other advertisements that are based around ridiculous gender stereotypes, or whether it's genuinely just trying to sell me a product by insulting me.
Men and women think differently about colour. Some studies have even shown that we see colour differently! So what you think? Do you and your partner talk about colour in the same way?
Why would you make an ad which explicitly shows how manipulative you product is? "Take away our well crafted names and any idiot would agree to it, shit; it's only paint right?" Advertising eats itself...

Psst, it's a poke at advertising. A lot of them are still at the "Barbie and Ken" level. :]

@10350734 Isn't it making fun of gender roles rather than perpetuating them?
