  • You rock dude... :)

i have a G9 but i never knew that it has these awesome features too... :D

Well can you please tell me how to operate that Manual Focus thing on the camera (MF on the dial on the right side to the Lcd)...

  • @sonugill89 When the dial on top of your camera is set to P Tv Av or M you can then push the MF for manual focus. This magnifies a square in the middle of your screen. Then you can turn the round dial that has the ridges (the one around the MF button) to manually focus. Hope that helps.

  • @Timasu

Thanks for your reply dude... I already have an idea about this but i dont know how to actually Focus something... when i rotate the dial with ridges it doesn't make any difference in the Focus Square and the area arround that square... Aint the area arround the square is supposed to be blur than the square..???

Please help me with this... :)

  • @sonugill89 I'll admit that I don't use it much. It looks like when you first push the MF it is already in focus, and then you have to turn the dial a lot one way or the other for it to go out of focus. It should show that bar with the ft or inches. I was able to take it in and out of focus, and then when I got it where I wanted I took a picture, and it then applied whatever was in the square to the entire photo. I just noticed that I had to turn that dial a lot before it changed the focus.

  • how do i increase shutter speed for movie mode?

  • @TheBoyChur The only way I know is by choosing "Standard" 640 x 480 (30 fps) or "High Resolution" 1024 x 768 (15 fps). When your top dial is set to video you can then turn the larger dial on the back to choose the type of video you want to shoot. I mostly use this camera if I want to make time-lapse videos.

  • awesome how to video!! time to experiment !! made me want to go out and try all these features

  • Hi, on the time lapse I understand that the G9 limits it to only 2 hours. Do you know how I can extend it beyond 2 hours? Thanks!

  • @pp5035 sorry, I haven't figured out how to extend it.

  • Thanks for this wonderful How To!

Got my first time lapse video yesterday thanks to your instructions.

  • I am very glad that this was created. I have been thinking of getting a G9 and now I am sure to get one. Thanks for this video.

  • Hi, just wanted to say thanks for the demos.. I've had the camera for a year and had no idea I could do that sort of thing (I'm a complete novice).

Seems like I'm not the only one you've inspired to get out and start shooting time lapse, colour swap etc.

Keep up the good work :)

  • Thank you very much for this video. I have had my camera for almost exactly a year and have never used these features. I'm excited to go experiment!

  • Great stuff. Have had the G9 for about a year now but have only been using it in the most basic way. This gives me a ton of ideas.

  • OMGGGGG I didn't know my G9 could do time lapses. *goes and sets the tripod up on her balcony pointed towards the clouds* :D thanks man

  • It's also fun to set on your dash and go for a drive. I was going to get the G10, but they removed the time-lapse option from it. Have fun!

  • You'r tripod is sick, I love it. Who makes it?

  • how do i take images and videos off the camera and upload them to my pc?

  • You can take the memory card out of the camera and put it into computer, or you can use the cable that came with the camera.

  • Thanks, informative and well paced video.

  • I appreciate your methodical instruction, Timasu.

  • thanks this has been really usfull im off to take photos now

  • How can i get a 20x28 print outta this thing. Im tryin to make my own prints for frames i bought. Is there anyway this can be done with this camera? Do i have to use stiching or something?

  • I think part of it depends on your printer. Will it print that large of paper? Software, such as that which came with the camera will also allow you to choose different sizes. If you are going to print a photo that large you probably will want to take photos that are higher in pixels, which means they will take up more memory. If you push the "func. Set" button on the camera it will allow you to choose "normal" "fine" or "superfine." You can at the same time choose "L" to get 12M 4000x3000.

  • You may also try putting the photo on a dvd or cd-rom and taking it to Kinkos to have them print it.

  • thank you soo much. i bought my new Canon Powershot SD790 IS and i wanted to use the color accent and swap so bad but i didnt have a clue. you showed me what to do step by step. and did i mention that your video is about the only video out there that shows us how. Thnak you

  • Hey Tim hows it going. Excellent video thanks very much, from a non reader of manuals. Going to purchase myself a G9 tomorrow after much deliberation to use as something more compact than my D-SLR for every day carrying around. Really like the time lapse videos you have posted. I notice at the end the audio gets a lot clearer, is that you using the G9 at the end of this vid? Thanks very much. All the best. Gary.

  • Yeah, to me the manual is too large and unorganized. The video was shot on an older Nikon camera, however you are correct that the last bit of it was recorded using the G9.

  • Really nicely paced, clear and informative explanation - Thank you! Please post more about the camera,....the manual is NOT very helpful.

  • whats the point of colour swap

  • very informative video

i realy got too much to learn about my G9 thanks for your effort

  • thank you! i agree the manual could be better....either that or i am just slow. :)

  • thanks so much! i've had the G9 for a year, and had no idea about the time lapse feature, or how to properly use color swap/accent features!

  • Yeah, the manual that came with the camera isn't too user friendly. They need to include a DVD or a simple full color manual describing the basic features.

  • very comprehensive many thanks for your time and effort in showing it

  • so exactly how long of video can u take at a time?

  • I think that depends on your memory card and battery. With a 4GB memory card I can take about 32 minutes of standard or high resolution video and 344 minutes of compact (for email) video. I'm not sure about time lapse, since the camera says I can take 999 minutes with this memory card (at 1 second intervals).

  • Great vid...helps out alot! Thanks!

  • thanks for the video. I'm thinking of getting this or the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5K. I'm mostly interested in the video quality and of course timelapse. :) so my question is, what's your opinion on the HD video it takes? thanks very much!

  • I think that for a point and shoot camera the G9 takes some pretty good video. Of course the primary purpose of the camera is still photography. Most of my Youtube videos were shot with the camera (this how-to video was shot with an another camera). When watching the Youtube videos be sure it is in high quality.

  • wow thank u so much it helped me a lot

  • You're welcome.

  • I am seriously thinking about getting this camera.

What's it like in low light situations, do the images become blury or noisy?

Also what resolution can you record video at and does it restrict how much you can record or is it just down to the memory card?

Thanks a lot for making this video.

  • I've seen no change in quality in low light.

The amount of video depends on the mode and the memory card. The modes include standard, high resolution, compact, color accent, color swap, and time lapse.

    I have no regrets yet!

  • OK thanks Timasu. Going to take a walk down the camera shop and take a look.

  • i never comment on anything, but i had to on this video! i recently picked up a G9 and have been trying to learn how to use it. this video helped so much! I have a quick question though. Is there a mode or a way of taking pictures of moving people and still have them come out clear? thanks again.

  • Are you talking about how when taking photos often moving objects seem out of focus, or a blur. If I know there is going to be action or movement in the photo I will change the ISO speed (the small dial on top) from "AUTO" to "HI" You can also change the large mode dial on top to "SCN" and then turn the the ridged control dial to "Sports."

This camera has a lot to offer, and even I'm still trying different settings to get the best shots. Good luck!

  • You mean Nikon S50

  • Yes, I used the Nikon Coolpix S50 to make this video.

  • wow that was very helpful! im getting this camera soon. it looks great. thanks for showing me some awesome features

  • damn ima have to get a 4gb then.. thats a lotta pics you can take. I currently got a 2gb

  • really good and informative vedeo .........thanks for sharing

  • Thanks, that helped me out alot, any other tutorials on the G9 would be nice.

  • hey. great video. can i ask what size card you are using with this?

  • I'm using a 4.0 GB card. It gives me about 756 photos when the quality is set to superfine, 1265 at fine, and 2585 at normal. About 32 minutes of standard video.

  • nice cam!
