  • great lecture indeed.. nice video...

  • How do these students get tested?

  • the last time arizon went for the democrats (except 1996) was 1948, not 1964: goldwater barely took it

  • Great lecture!

  • I'm not worried about polarization by region, I'm worried about polarization by party! Nobody even thinks of voting independent, we only have 2 major parties. I think it's a problem.

  • @numsiskit I just switched my voter registration to Independent. This two-party system is wrecking this country. Great lecture series by the way. I've learned a lot. Thanks for sharing.

  • Why not the Geography Department of Stanford instead of the History Department?

  • The reason those poor southern states vote republican is because of the massive population of poor blacks which vote almost entirely democrat. If you took out the voters in Mississippi who actually voted republican that average household income would be more like 45,000-50,000 which is at or above the national average.

  • I look at America in a way is made up of 50 different countries instead of states. I know it seems a little crazy but look at California for instance. It shares a whole lot of different values as a whole compared to many other U.S. States. Just my opinion anyway.

  • @edssdd A state is a country.

  • That 50% of American do not vote I'd say no president speaks for all Americans at best he speaks for 25-30%

  • Thanks for uploading this. Very interesting.

  • missing point:

    - most people don't votes (demographic data is useless)

    - politician decide the district/count map so they can manipulate the final blue/red color of state easly.

  • Too bad, the whole country should be the same color, and that is the color of Libertarian. A small, limited central government whose only function is to protect the rights of the people with courts, police, and defense. Leave the people alone.

  • @AroundSun and be at the mercy of other powers

  • i came to know many things by this video it is very useful for knowledge

  • Don't vote there is no hope. If you vote you are to blame. "Reject the system dictating the norms."

  • @elbowbiter1 AMEN!

  • excellent work!

  • Maps by Piri Reis give us something for us to think about too! • Color is always helpful in any presentation

  • the whole world , always!!! global! that's where "I" live. CONTAINMENT is interesting though. prison amer... manifest destiny... social theory of statistical norms, intervention, perfection, or subjective corrosion of AMERICA? -NORTH AMERICA AND 2 OCEANS!

  • His US maps are missing Alaska and Hawaii

  • well, Alaska and Hawaii combined are only 0.6% of the entire population of the US.

plus, Hawaii is the most Democratic state in the Union (81% voted for Honolulu-born Obama). all Hawaiian counties voted Democratic as well. So, demographic studies of Hawaii barely apply to the rest of the country. Hawaii only contributes 4 electors (Alaska only 3) anyways.

  • fascinating, especially seeing how the states evolved over time. What would this lecture look like had it happened in January 2009 vs. October 2008

  • So alot of illegal immagrants risk alot coming to america because it sucks?

  • pay attention to the video before posting a stupid comment

  • your fucking stupid

  • and this is why you arent attending a prestigious university such as stanford....

  • no, communists (at least historically) are atheists, not the other way around. you and your family members need to stop inbreeding because you are a detriment to the human race.

  • Get out of the gene pool.

  • did you even watch the video?

  • Arizona has actually voted GOP since 1952 (with the Clinton exception he mentioned).

  • wow professor sure knows his stuff...

  • stanford - so professional, wow no wonder why US is world power !!

  • Yeah, if it wasn't for the intellectual elite, the US would be going straight down. Lets hope they don't leave for Europe...

  • I love Martin Lewis. I have all of his lectures on my i-pod from I-Tunes U and think he is a freckin' genius. I love maps and geography, especially Demograhics but I extremely love Geopolitics. Lewis has a great way. I just hope I can get into Stanford and Lewis is still teaching/lecturing there. Only 5 more years till college and Stanford is where I would like to. Once again Lewis you are a genius of a man.

  • I love it. Yaya for Stanford.

  • What? No Alaska or Hawaii?

  • very enlightening!

  • bedebooporigina, the link is now fixed.

  • Hi,
