to date, Armstrong does all the guitar work in the studio, including solos. Jason White covers that stuff on stage so Armstrong can be the showman and empresario you need to have to pull off a large scale show. My understanding is that White was asked to join the band formally and he decided against it, preferring to remain a contract player. He's got his own band (Influents), plays with Armstrong and others in Pinhead Gunpowder, Foxboro HTs and the Network so he's got plenty to do.
