  • What kind of snare, size, heads, muffling, snarewire r u using? Killer snare sound!!

  • for me the kick is so loud.:) nice snare sound.^^

  • imovie hd - 240p hahahahahaha

  • u probly should have brought the overhead a little closer to bring out the toms a little more and just blend the snare mic in for a nice mix!

  • Personally, I feel like the room just may be far deadened.. I mean, maybe thats just me, but I think you can get better recordings when you lets the air in the room itself breathe a little. Makes it sound more raw, but keeping composure at the same time! Good vid though. Take out the verb! It sorta sounds like a glam recording, or just POWER drums hahaha. Good job though!

  • too much reverb.

the kick compression is pretty weird sounding, you might want to play with the attack time a little bit.

also, turn the kick and snare down and turn the whole thing up. the toms are barely audible.

  • How did you get your snare to sound so poppy and nice?

  • @evenstevens280 Tune it tight, throw a moongel on it, and a bit of compression and EQ. Part of the reason it is so poppy is that it was uploaded to youtube, which doesn't have the best sound quality

  • @BillyTalentRocks2010 you should leave compression for the bass drum if that. What kind of EQ is it? just a high pass filter?

  • @BillyTalentRocks2010 dont forget a fuckload of reverb

  • @BillyTalentRocks2010 you can make it HD or 480p.... I just did that with my drum recording when I uploaded to youtube...

  • @evenstevens280 it seems that he added a little reverb to it

  • @evenstevens280 sounds like a bit of natural room reverb to me

  • @evenstevens280 to get that sound you just compress and EQ it and he added a lot of reverb, too much if you ask me, you can keep your snare however it is that you have it tuned

  • Sounds GREAT. COuld just use a little less reverb, but fuck what everyone else says.

  • nice soun broo

    check my video

  • justin bieber?

  • crap video quality but awesome sounding drums! good mixing :)

  • what brand are your drums they sound really good

  • @gady100 Thanks, they're Peace. It's actually a low end kit, haha but with the right tuning any kit can sound good

  • @BillyTalentRocks2010 That's 100% true! I've got a used Ludwig Rocker (outer plies Poplar and inner plies Maple) it only costed me $245, but when I got it I had no idea how to tune a drum what so ever. Reskined the whole kit and about 10 hours (no exaggerating) of tuning later it sounds pretty good imo, the floor tom doesn't sound too great. Expensive kits do sound better to a certain degree, but lower end kits don't sound like you're hitting cardboard =].

  • @BillyTalentRocks2010 lol i have a peace kit tooo

  • Awesome tone bro!!!!!!!

  • Might wanna try an EV RE 20 for the kick drum. I use that when I record kick drums.

  • I like the sounds of your cymbals and drums, but you dont have a nice groove when playing

  • I think with less reverb and less snare it would sound very very good.

  • looks like u have no space for your arm o freely

  • good job

  • Really nice sound for 3 mics bro. You should try putting the overhead about 2.5 feet over the out side of your ride aiming to you, might get a better over all sound of the kit.

  • how much did you pay for the mics??

  • @produccionesmiranejo the kick mic was 70 the snare mic was 100 and I think the overhead was about 100.

  • Is very cool man sounds awesome, but one thing, you can give more volume to the cymbals because they sound really low and also I think you can put the effect compression on your mixer to the bass drum to make it sound sweet, cool man u will rock with this equipment!!!

  • snare sounds great! kickdrum is a little annoying =0

  • all cymbals seem a little light to me

  • Why are you wearing a helmet? Or is that meant to be hair?

  • @RandomBeRad it was meant to be your mum

  • The drumming sounds a bit weird? Nice micing though! x

  • how did u get your bass drum t o sound like that?

  • that snare sounds delicious !

  • this sped up im sure

  • @thegreatbtf22 no it's not...it would sound a lot more tinny if it was

  • @thegreatbtf22 what are you talking about fag just because u suck at drumming or dont even know anything about it your saying its sped up give him a break! its sounds really good!

  • @thegreatbtf22

Why in gods name should this be sped up?

This is decent drumming but nothing special, most drummers can do that. You can even do this at 2/3 of the speed. I dont know what your problem is boy.

You also hear it when drums are sped up.

There is too much reverb. Way too much reverb.

  • Hey, sounds good.

I know this video is really old but how did you mount your snare mic with it being a vocal mic? Was it some sort of clip?

  • The drum mics came with rim clips and they had adapters that would thread a regular mic clip that goes on a mic stand

  • with 3 mics, i would've probably gone with the glyn johns for overheads and the bass drum.

  • Dude, that was awsome with 3 mics.

  • Great job on everything. I would recommend a better kick mic and maybe an SM57 instead of a 58... oh and try a 57 under the snare with the one on top to capture some of the trap. That's just my taste though.

  • great sound!

  • Any recommendations for getting a hi hat stomp to sound louder in recording?

  • @NoahsGuitarChannel turn it up in post? :P

  • That would make sense, but it doesn't work. It sounds like crap. Maybe I need a better mic?

  • nice mic placement on kick and snare, sounds tight (mean that literally, not like im gangster btw)

just get some more mics ;)

  • poor. >You can hardly hear the cymbals. So yea you shoud fix that ^^ and also. you look really tence while playing. loosen your sholders dude.

  • A little too much reverb- my opinion.

  • Good quality for sure.

  • You need more mics

  • Sounds great. And your really good. but the bass drum could be cleaner

  • Comment removed

  • its sounds mad nice especially ur drums but like idk if theres a way to turn like how much it echos but turn it down if there is a way? but ur tuning sounds fucking killer dude

  • it might just be because im using nackared iphone earphones, but the toms sound sooo quiet??

  • yea i didn't have enough mics to put on the toms at the time

  • are the pg57 shure mics good for tom snare and bass drums?

  • I'm not entirely sure, but I think the PG versions of the Shure mics are a bit lower quality than the SMs, which are pretty standard, and the Betas, which are higher. I would go with SM57s if you can afford it but the pg57s would probably work all right

  • yeah, however I wouldn't put the 57 in the bassdrum, go with the 52 if you can afford it, picks up the lower frequencies much better = much more suitable for bassdrum.

  • if you cant afford sm 58/57 you should use a GSL 58/57. they are similar in quality but a lot cheaper

  • for only 3 mics that sounds really good, but I'd recomment getting another overhead so you can hear the toms and cymbals a little better.

  • It's good, but you can't hear the toms. If you put another mic in between the floor tom and the rack tom, you'll get a really great sound.

  • hes good but he'll be more spot on in a few more years...fuckin great drummer man

  • Have you heard a drummer of rock he's name was Eric Singer? Have you listen to him sometimes?

  • I mean all of my drums...

  • I have a drumkit without the microphones.

So i wonder what the name of that microphones?

And how i do to get this drum sound of my drumkit at home..

    (My drumsound was horrible)...

  • It's a cobalt Co9 on the kick, a Shure SM58 on the snare, and a MXL V63M condenser mic for the overhead. In this video, I think I have my kick drum tuned pretty low on the batter head, and the front head relatively tight, and a small throw pillow inside. I have a 1 ply head on the snare tuned up high and muffled, and the toms are tuned low with thick heads and I think they have muffling.

  • @BillyTalentRocks2010 how did you muffle your drums? Also, did you add the reverb or does it sound like that dry?

  • I primarily use moon gels, i had one on the snare, and i may have had one or two on the toms. I added the reverb in the software, i wish I had a room that sounded like that though haha

  • @BillyTalentRocks2010 haha that would be cool. Can you post a video of the mics dry?

  • turn your overheads up dude!

  • Get another of the same mic and get stereo overheads! You're a very good drummer for the age.

  • Thanks! maybe i'll get one for my bday

  • dude lossen up when you play looks better and you can play faster

  • just watched it without sound. Nice playing position! U got that right early on. way 2 go. I'll check the sound later at home. cheeeeeeeeeeers

  • thanks man I have been experimenting with positions for a while, and I found that this one is one of the most comfortable, or maybe with the tom raised up a bit

  • sorry mate, poor recording.. EQ on the heads makes it sound unnatural and there's WAYYY too much reverb on it

  • a little too much eq on the overhead sounded really unnatural, turn i would even lower the overhead about 8 inches.. other than that sounds great im going to start the same thing with my set

  • great sound, now im not a por micer,(i will have drum videos up soon, stay tuned),but i think that if you turn up the gain on he overhead mic and also turn bass n the overhead, you will get more sound out of the cymbles and toms(since you have no mics on the toms)try that and see if it sounds better......contact me if you want, pce out...HAMMERS UP!

  • reverb's a little too much. the snare took over most of the drum kit. but other than that, good quality.

  • i dig the snare. but, i'm a big fan of a powerful snare. the actual sound of it wasn't really to my liking. but the level was spot on. of course, the toms and cymbals were quite weak. but, in relation to the kick level, i liked the snare where it was. just me though. :)

  • damn how old are you?

  • you need to bring up your overheads. and id reccomend investing in a sm57 for the snare

  • too much bass, but sounds good man

  • love the reverb

  • i cant hear anything else besides the snare.

  • great sound ,but what mike are you using on the rack tom?

  • hey dude nice sound, but that marshall mic its a room mic not an overhead...to be an overhead you should have 2 mics for a stereo recording technique like the spaced air(a-b) or an x/y ortf, nos, etc

  • Only if you want to record in stereo...you don't have to. It's called an overhead mic just because it's positioned overhead.

  • I playing this thru my Yamaha MSR 400's and it sounds like live stage drums. Freaking awesome man, nice.

  • you're a drummer? i wouldn't have guessed. good stuff though. you should move your ride away a bit though, maybe just pull back on the boom, and possibly heighten the crash on the left and pull it back a bit too, just so you have more room

  • ur set sounds nice

  • nice sound but move your ride and the crash next to it farther away looks very cramped

  • I think the mics and your playing sound awesome but i think you need to loosen yourself up and maybe headbang and maybe put your ride a little farther away becuase you look like your cramped.

    Great Playing

  • snare sounds great!

cranked up eh? thats how i like it too lol

  • Great sound. What model of Marshall mic are you using on the overhead?

  • I like the reverb it's neat

  • good mic'ing, except for the bass drum sound

    s a bit unclear

  • I like the Bass Drum! Did you put anything in it!?

    I also like the reverb

  • nice sound dude!!!!

    really like it ;)

  • I like the sound =) perfect

  • its sounds pretty good man i would take the reverb down on the kick just alittle and possibly take the snare volume down

  • The kick is coming in too loud, its hogging the compressor.

Otherwise, great sound! Ive been looking for minimal mic setups, this has given me good ideas!

  • Very good, sounds, great, I just think it would sound better with the cymbals louder.

  • yea over head level upp!

  • man you should get a tom mic.

  • I actually got a new drum mic pack about a week after i recorded this. ill probably put up a video soon, but im kinda busy right now

  • Really like the sound of this recording, 5 stars easy!

  • thats pretty good.

try turning up the level on the overhead...see how you like that.

  • wow that bass drum mic sounds really nice for being a dynamic vocal microphone. picks up the low frequency really well.

  • Thanks!

  • what kind of snare do you use?

  • that one's just a cheap percussion plus one

  • good job! the snare sounds very good! how old are you?

  • Thank you! I'm 13 years old. The snare was actually a really cheap snare from Percussion Plus, but with a Remo Ambassador on top, a moongel, some EQing, and some reverb, you can make pretty much any snare sound good.

  • What's a moongel? I agree, your snare has the sound that I have been looking for, for 25 years. I have a feeling with no EQ at all, this snare will still sonnd great. Did you you mic the snare? What mic? Thanks. I enjoyed your video.

  • Thanks! A moongel is a little blue square that's made up of a kind of gel that doesn't leave residue on your snare, but it sometimes leaves a blue stain on coated heads. It can be washed with soap and water, as they get dirty reeaaalllly quickly. I used the Shure SM58 mic on the snare about 3 inches above the snare, aimed right at the center. The secret to the awesome sound is reverb. Not too much, just a little. Thanks for the comment!

  • SM57s are better for drums =P and dude your set echoes too much...you should find a better room to record in

  • I dont have any sm57s tho :( and i actually put reverb on the kit. i would have just put it on the snare, but i couldnt tho...

  • sm58 without the windscreen is pretty much a 57 ;-) the windscreen is what gives it that rolloff that is good for vocals. So just unscrew the windscreen.

  • The secret to awesome sound is NOT reverb! BWAHAHA

How about good mic placement, great sounding room, good sounding drums, good player, good heads, good recording equipment? Not a little?

    ...just reverb eh?

  • this sounds awesome, ben. =D

  • Thanks, nice username...haha

  • wow this isn't the the cheap peace drum mic set you can get for like 75 quid is it? cos i'm getting them

  • No, this is just an Electro Voice dynamic mic, a Shure SM58, and a Marshall condenser mic. I actually didn't know that they made a peace drum mic kit. In fact, I had never heard of Peace until I bought my drums from a guy online used, so I don't know much about Peace. I actually just bought a Digital Reference drum mic kit earlier today for $100, about 69 quid, i think. I'm pretty impressed with it, and I'll probably post a video soon of that kit.

  • awesome
