  • AMAZING!!!

  • kick ass van halen guitar and lesson and tone

  • AWESOME!!

  • bubbly

  • Some people are born with guitar.

NOBODY can practice guitar and become this awesome. Your either born with this or your not. I practiced five hours a day for years with absolutely no results. Why you are wondering? I wasn't born with this ability.

  • @CYCLOPSONE so fuckin true bro I have 14 bad ass guitars and I practice like a fool. your born with the sick ability thats it nothing else!!!!

  • i love that head bounce in 5:00 XD

  • your to funny hope it sounds close-dude your killer-good teacher too-

  • I'm rapidly discovering that there are about as many different ways to play this song as there are videos of people playing it.

  • which pedals you use?

  • holy crap its rob rob trujillo!

  • @toilet32 Ya he's like a cross between Trujillo and Eddy! He makes this look like it takes no effort at all! LOL!!!

  • dude what makes your/ his guitar echoe?

  • @guitarbat1 delay pedal

  • You're a good guy for posting this for free and breaking down all of the parts. Thank you.

  • you're all wrong! eddie didnt play some specific brand when it came to his frankenstein. He found a strat body for cheap and custom painted it. all he ever did throughout the years was switch out his kneck on the traditional. he did in fact use a kramer kneck for a while, but he didn't truly play a "kramer" until they began producing their frankenstein line of guitars. and now he plays evh obviously

  • What tuning is this in?

  • @HarrisSariFilms Is it D# G# C# F# A #D#?

  • @HarrisSariFilms Yes, E flat

  • Hey Frank,

This vid is actually helpful! So, so many guys are trying to "teach" this little thing on youtube, and most are just....wrong. Great job.

  • thanks this helped me alot. would have been nice if you showed your picking hand tho

  • Thanks Frank great video and killer tone

  • Great Playing & Instruction! The Devil is in the Details...

  • Dude can u play some Rock Bottom UFO

  • This video helped me rock my middle school talent show. 5 minutes and 32 seconds of pure gold

  • thats a bitchin frankenstrat my friend

  • Dude, right now, EVH is watching this and taking notes! I have seen him live seven times, and I have never seen him follow the original track once. He improvs the entire thing different each time. His choice, since he wrote and performed the fucking thing, but I like the original, and THIS is killer. You have the gift.

  • guitar. nom enough said

  • In the taping section you tap one or two strings?

  • @vanszpaker This minor arpeggio is completely off the B string. Start with your index finger on fret 2 (Db) and your pinky on 4 (E) and right hand index (tapper) on 9 (Ab). Play 4 bars in that position, then move your right finger to the 10 (A). The important part is tracking those root notes off your note playing index finger, obviously you'll then know what position the chords are in. I count the roots (with bars alternating of the right index finger) as 2, 4, 5, 7, 9. Hope this helps.

  • Love that sound! Totally brown! Pretty cool version of it!

  • I LOVE the tone. What amp and effects did you use?

  • Well done man you're awsome!!

  • FRANKIE G. GONZALES....... whats up bro? bad ass guitar, and great playing. if you can play like him, you can use his image (in this case, the guitar) HELL yea

  • Hi Frank :D

  • What's the tuning

  • @5up3r5ucr3 1/2 step down of the standard tuning

  • Frank, how detailed are the DVD's?

  • hey, i learnt little wing the other day (took me a few days) how hard is this in comparison?

  • @OzzyJClarke With all respect to Hendrix. This is (technique wise) in another league. MUCH harder!

  • in the live version [yours] how do you get the "keyboard" feeling?

Is it just an illusion, like the change in the arpeggio shape making one hear an implied faster execution of the technique.

I'd swear you are playing a keyboard, in voicings/phrasing at that time.

But my eyes tell me differently.

Let me know, when you have the opportunity. I'd appreciate it, as I am looking for a different "sound" in my playing.

And, by the way, you are awesome.

  • The original frankenstrat was a Charvel body and a strat neck guys...

  • 1:47 sounds oh so nice slowed down

  • Hey Dude, thanks heaps for this. You have a really nice vibe. Its makes me laugh, all the other guys commenting on what kind of guitar you play. Its not the guitar but the dude!! some will never get it. Rock on man!!

  • WTH?? Im not jimmi hendrix or randy rhoads , its impossible to learnm in that speed xd

  • nice tone :)

  • Nice Work - Thanks for sharing.

  • Great vid from a cool dude, not like all the other arrogant jerks out there

  • I would love to get your tone....

  • @Rickis399 haha no shit right LOL!!!

  • Great job, sounds close indeed. It's not the real tapping pattern at the end, yours is the one Paul Gilbert uses a lot, but I guess you've been told this a thousand times :) Nonetheless, it is still a great job, great sound. Had a look on some live covers of yours. I wish you played a bit slower, to sound a bit cleaner. I cannot even play a tenth of what you play, but this is what I felt, watching those videos :)

  • Lovely guitar!

  • It was a great guitar lesson and finally I think I succeded in playing eruption! I thought it would have been impossible to me! Thank you!

  • Hey Frank , very enjoyable to watch this, even better coming from a real humble guy who can actually play it with some tastefulness & finesse ! Thanks

  • hey fank, i was wondering what effects u use for playing this masterpiece?

  • What kind of wood did you use? I am trying to decide if I should use alder or ash... and I am not sure which to go with. I like ash and usually build with that, but someone said to try alder that it was a bit warmer. What do you think?

  • Shouldn't tap with your index finger ;)

  • @Brainyy297 Eddie Van Halen taps with his index finger...Always has. Theres no wrong way.

  • Thanks for the two handed part, i've playing it the typical way.I knew I was doing it wrong. Opps. Thanks!

  • hey if u dont mind me asking r u native american? If u r so am i and eddie and randy r the reason i cant put my guitar down

  • Thanks for the upload, it really helped me.

  • execellent guitariste, i like see you play. i try your lesson ty!

  • What pickup are you using?

  • Man, you nail that tone! Friggen great man! Obviously Eddie never played Eruption the same way twice, but it's nice to have a well done description that slows it down and shows the parts.

  • That was great! loved the live version..... I am wondering how to play that middle section that you and EVH do, sounds very classical..... i was trying to watch you as you did it, but i think my timing is off..... do you also tune to Eb?

  • not everyone can just watch and learn!!!!!! we all dont fuck our guitars......

    TAB IS MUCH EASIER

  • you realise this song came out in .....1978?

  • Can you give a quick lesson on amp setting etc? EVH claims he is straight into the amp and has never owned an effects pedal, ever. I have seen him press effects pedals all the time though.

  • @timkibodeaux12 He uses effects pedals, but never a distortion pedal. He uses purely amp distortion, but he also uses effects like phaser and whatnot from his pedals

  • Awesome Lesson dude... just awesome. You kinda look like filipino in many ways. Correct me if im wrong bro.

  • SWEET

  • nice!

  • How do you make your tapping ring out so loud? When I do it, it sounds like rubbish. I've even seen kids do it, so I must be doing something wrong

  • @DistortedV12 or you have a shitty amp?

  • U are damn fast.

  • @89baker first off, its called a frankenstrat, not frankenstein. and second of all its not a frankenstrat. the guy said his friend built it for him. so he didnt go and buy the $25,000 on musicians friend like a dumbass. you can build your own for much cheaper and have more fun doing so. and lastly, the $25,000 frankenstrat is not just like van halens. its an overpriced replica. eddie made his own and treated it like shit. but from the shit rose the brown sound

  • @darksideofthemoon731 "From the shit rose the brown sound"...awesome!!!

  • How do you get your tapping parts so loud? I can't get enough volume for my hammer-ons.

  • yeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  • this is my own version of jump by eddie van halen this is the keyword on you tube "leeshadbest" thanx

  • Hey dude. I've been a fan of yours for a while. How's the DVD coming?

  • its not van halens guitar its not even a kramer, its a strat just with a different pickguard like van halens and paintjob

  • @333reid333 A friend of mine built it for me, its actually a warmoth body, a neck with Jumbo frets, TB-11 custom custom pickup, stock Floyd rose, He charged me $1100 and it plays amazingly well!

  • @TapnTips can i get one for that price too?

  • @TapnTips Very nice. Wish I could afford something like that.

  • @TapnTips Beats paying 25 grand for a Frankenstein I guess.

  • @TapnTips well it doesn't have the cigarette burns so i wouldn't call it a frankestein

  • @TapnTips See if your friend can carve The Shark from an Explorer or Epiphone Goth, red/silver stripes and add a full float trem for $1100.

  • @333reid333 Dude...Eddie acutally changed the neck a billion times......so know your VH

  • @evhfrankie im not talking about the neck.. i said it isnt a kramer thats it and yes i know eddie van halen ive followed his work for since i can remember so don't try and tell me to know my van halen

  • @333reid333

so, maybe some people dont feel like spending 25 grand on a cheap guitar

  • @chroylikesfish who told you it was 25 grand? some are less than 1 grand...and you could still paint it yourself which would take 2 days, this is simple stuff, and it isnt very expensive your right but it is an amazing guitar..that's all im sayin

  • @333reid333 wow, your a genius, Strat?!?!?! have you ever even held a strat

  • @carsmartz uhh yeah actually i have a strat...

  • @333reid333 obviously since you thought that his guitar is "just a strat with a paintjob" retard

  • @carsmartz i don't understand whats obvious... all i said was it's not a kramer...eddie van halens guitar was a kramer, his original homemade guitar i believe actually was a fender body but eventually they made him a replica of his own guitar and it was a kramer...

  • @333reid333 BOOGIE BODY AND STRAT NECK

  • @333reid333 well you don't know a whole lot about guitars than because eddie's guitar wasn't a kramer

  • @carsmartz wow dude... your fucking stupid if you dont belive his guitar was a kramer, im pretty sure anyone here knows atleast that about his guitar.

  • @333reid333 no dumbass, eddie van halen's first stage guitar wasn't a kramer look it up dumb fuck!

  • @333reid333 Eddie Van Halen's guitar was actually made from a ash fender body, so technically, it was a fender.

  • @MasonGuitarGuy well yeah i guess you could say that but he still had a different neck so i didnt ever really call it a fender, so yeah i guess your right

  • @333reid333 its not even a strat. its somthin he made.

  • @thebigchillman yeah i realize that now that i look closer

  • @333reid333 Dude Your Stupid...Check Up On Your Research...Retard...

  • Comment removed

  • @333reid333 Shut up idiot

  • @333reid333 hey thts way cheaper than buy a evh guitar with it being 25000 bucks

  • @Brian19451 that is true, but it wont sound as great!

  • frank this is great!

  • Thats a 25,000 dollar Frankenstein. Just like Van halens

  • Comment removed

  • Thats a real talent there - nice one

  • Frank. That was awesome.

  • Frank, humor us... What kinda amp/rack effects ya' got?? Come on dude!!!

  • do you mind if I kill you and take your guitar?

  • @SnopElsker ikr

  • man... can that guitar possibly sound any greater

  • muito bom!!

  • I´ll either learn this tutorial or take up building a rocket, whatever´s easiest...

  • Great job Franck.

Just i want to know your rack gear? preamp? noise gate? equaliser?

    thk ;)

  • That's weird how it just sounds like nothing slowed down. What's that in the middle of the guitar body behind the strings?

  • @ureadmymind toggle switch

  • impossible to match, but your second closest :)

  • Sounds really good dude.

  • Very cool, man. And I thought I had small hands for a guitar player, Way to rock it bro!

    Peace.

  • you rock lad

    tapping in slow-motion sucks xD

  • dude you rock

  • its half-step down

  • what tuning is this?

  • can i make love to that guitar?

  • @GKHSKyle yes if you make a hole in the guitar x'D

  • how's your rig setup?

  • nice vid 5/5

  • Very quick run through but still very helpful, great tone! Well done!

"lasalle"...chords? Not many chords here, if u r not sure what chords those few are, this song is probably too advanced.

  • Realy enjoyed your version of Eruption it sounds real cool...i will be watching more of your vids from now on..

    Phil from England.......

  • This is only shit... Kickassssss

  • thank you so much, you rule

  • He made it him self cause the replica has 21 frets and his has 22

  • yo does this have alternate tuning? cuz im tryin to play it but its not comin out right..... (and i got a self made replica, no way im gonna pay $1k+ when i can get a used squre and tear it apart... lol)

  • Yes, he's in half step down tuning.

    (Eb-Ab-Db-Gb-Bb-eb)

  • holy shit did u buy that or build it?

  • how much did you pay for your frankinstrat?

  • 25,000 dollar guitar!

  • That's not the Replica...it's a self-made replica :D

  • nice frankenstein. did u buy the replica or build it?

  • i did a eruption basics on my video, just the main parts my strings was not stretched in yet so i did not use my floyed rose. and' UTX guy you need to float your trem. the tension on the springs in the back of your guitar!

  • Frank, (or anyone), I assume you are tuned down 1/2 step; if so,, .. does your floyd make this difficult on your strat?? When I try to turne down on my X (with a floyd) the springs keep pulling it back up??? any auggestions?

  • you have to do the entire setup , adjust the tension of the springs on the back of ur guitar so the floyd won´t pull back

  • What guitar is that?

  • @flyingv68 the van halen frankenstrat guitar

  • yay 1000th comment

  • u met van halen

  • i though it was going to be more complicated but i guess not, thanks frank

  • hey frank your guitar is beautiful

  • So, will will the DVD lesson ever come out?

  • iits a home made frankinstein because it douesnt have the Krammer headxtock that eddie used

  • its the original one, fender made a replica like his. during the 1984 record Kramer paid Eddie to put a Kramer headstock on his guitar

  • The original didnt have a name on the headstock either. The Kramer is a different guitar.

  • that amp is huge!

  • thanks for lesson!

  • Awsum!!! Thanks for the slowmo video, answers many of my questions, why were'n't you around 20 year ago...lol

  • is he playing a frankenstrat or did he make it cuz it looks like it has different pickups than the stupid expensive replicas

  • theres a process called taking pickups out, and replacing with ones you prefer ^^

like how i want emgs but 200$ a set sucks, when my guitar cost 199$

  • thnx!

  • ouch

  • Holy shit!!

    Very well done, sir!

  • that guitar was 38 thousand right?

  • 25 to be excact

  • @ guitar0124 it always varies on the frankenstrats.. especially on the internet and ebay but the real thing, the real van halen frankenstrat my friend saw was for $80,000 in chicago in a glass case.

  • i would kill to have that guitar its freakin awesome

  • @quilicimusic

oh yeah, you might be right, still looks badass though,

  • how big and expensive was that huuuuuuuge marshall amp that right behing u?

  • @greekajp82 I think that they're just two cabs side by side. They wouldn't be that much, but they don't have an actual amp inside them. You'd have to buy a head of some sort.
