All the Tamils didn't come during the British. Most Tamils came after the Jaffna Kingdom was established in the Jaffna Peninsula proper, as a result of an invasion by Pandyans in the year 1215.

The British did bring a lot of Tamils from Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Malaysia to do their work, and many of them got absorbed into the Sri Lankan Tamil population.

- Chelvanayagam was from Malaysia.

- Prabakaran's father, a Malayalee came from Kerala.
